Was concidering buying points at HH, but wondered if it was a pain to have to travel to the pool and beach. Loved VB because you walk out your front door and there's the pool and just steps away is the beach.

Anyone who has gone there or owns there, could you help?

The main pool at HHDVC is at the resort. The resort is small and all villas are close to the pool. Pool has a slide, snack bar, general store and fishing pier.
You can drive about a mile to the DVC Beach House. The beach is very nice, quiet wide and safe. There is also a pool at the Beach House, snack bar, dressing rooms etc. Parking is right at the Beach House. The beach itself beats VB hands down IMHO.

But you are right. You can't walk out of your villa and be right on the beach.

as inconvenient. The beach house pool is where it has always been so that is just how you do it at HH if you want to be at the beach. It is exactly 1.4 miles as you exit the parking lot of the beach house and arrive in front of Live Oak Lodge. The beach at HH is decent. We have spent countless trips at Daytona Beach. We love the experience of walking out to the beach. Looking out at the water from your balcony is very relaxing. But the resort at HH is beautiful with all of the live oaks and pine trees. Having to drive down to the beach is a very minor inconvenience. The dining options on HHI are quite numerous. HH may not be the right fit for some but we love it. We do spend more time at the main pool at the resort because of 3 year old loves the water slide.

We find the resort beautiful! The trees and marshes are relaxing. We also like walking around the marina and looking at the yachts. During the HH golf tournaments the yachts even are more impressive!

We spend the day at the beach and pool house and enjoy the resort in the afternoon and evening. It is like two places in one!

As DVCers most of travel alot more around WDW than we do between the beach house and resort at HH. We love HH and it is pretty easy to go between the two spots. We often walk or ride bikes to the beach house. DH usually drives his wheelchair down -- he loves the trees and view along the road.

... as we contemplate our possible search for BWV resales, the opportunity to stay at HH has often crossed our minds. The comments contained in this 'thread' are very helpful. It sounds like a great place!!

I thought the main pool at HH had a slight edge over Vero. The Beach house is a WONDERFUL facility and IMHo the beach at HH is better than Vero. In Vero's favour is that the water is generally warmer, it's season lasts longer and the beach is RIGHT NEXT to the resort and you can open your window at night and listen to the ocean.

I like the fact that both resorts manage to offer completely different benefits/facilities.

I guess the ONLY way to choose which to "add on" is to visit them both :)

Riding bikes down the beach at Hilton Head is a real treat, there are beautiful homes to look at and a very wide beach that is easy to ride on.

HH does have some nice advantages, one being the shorter driving distance.

Nice discussion, you have me thinking of a HH add on.....

Thank you all. These are some good ideas for HH, and I like the post about it being like two resorts in one to go to the beach house.

On a different thread, I think I understood that there are no restaurants there at the resort. Is this correct? If so, is *that* inconvenient?

There is a snack bar at the resort pool and at the Beach House, but no restaurants at the resort.

However......there are about 6 within 400 yards of the resort- an easy walk across the bridge. I have never thought of dining as anything BUT convenient at HH.

In addition to those within a short walk, there are about 200 restaurants on the island, all an easy drive away. There is something for every taste!

Enjoy!

After just returning from Vero Beach, I would say that I prefer the resturants at HHI even if they are not "on" the resort. I found that the prices at Vero were very high compared to those at the off-site eating at Hilton Head.

When we are at Vero we have only eaten at the resort one time. We love seafood and there are lots of great restaurants that we drive too. Traffic is very light at Vero and no problem finding them. HH has an ordinance about signs so things can be tricky to find at night. It is a good idead to look around during the day the first time!

Tommy, enjoy your HH page by the way. I found quite the opposite, I though the restaurants at VB were cheaper on the whole. Many with early bird specials, far more than at HH and about the same number with a 10% discount or free desert as HH DVC. The Menu's in the Lobby are really helpful as well. We'll be at HH (Marriott's Grande Ocean and Monarch) for 2 weeks this summer and will go by DVC and shop at the mercantile and just look around.

Dean, I'll assume that Tommy was comparing onsite VB restaurants to HHI restaurants. If that's true, I'd agree that the cost of a meal is comparable.

I'd just like to get my two cents in on HHI restaurants. I'm an avid eater (with the waistline to back it up!), and we were thrilled with HHI's restaurants. There really are high quality restaurants of all kinds there. They may not be especially cheap, but we always felt that we got good value. And a couple restaurants that we ate at were exceptional. The quality was much higher at HHI than at VB, either onsite or off.

I'd also like to second LindaDVC's comment. HHI's restrictions about signs make it pretty confusing at first, since you often can't see anything from the road. And a lot of the good restaurants that are just off the highway have confusing addresses, since they are located in various strip malls. Once you get the hang of it, though, it's great because it keeps the island looking so beautiful. But we were lost a lot of the time the first two days.

Certainly comparing on site at VB to off site at HH would not be a fair comparison but I could see how one could look at it this way. We too love HH and many of the restaurants but I find it cheaper to eat at VB overall than HH. One can drive the 7 mi to VB for dinner easier and faster than trying to get through the Sea Pines circle at rush hour, LOL.

at the HH DVC resort there are 4 very nice choices just at the Shelter Cove harbor. And there is no driving required. I do feel that HHI's restaurants do not offer the number of early bird type choices on their menus that we have experienced in Daytona Beach. Prices can be a tad higher than DB, also. But with well over 200 hundred choices to choose from on HHI , it would seem to me that Vero Beach pales in comparison when it comes to dining choices. It took us a few trips to develop our dining style on HHI but now it is a wonderful experience with choices galore.

What are some of your favorite dining spots at VB and at HH?

At HH we enjoy Scott's Fishmarket, the Harbourmaster and Kingfisher - all at Shelter Cove.

Also Alexanders, Giuseppis- nearby. Cafe Europa at Sea Pines is nice. Another great spot is Old Fort Pub at HH Plantation.

There are countless other spots- each with it's own flair and ambiance. Enjoy!
