A possibly dumb question here - what if you buy into DVC with HH as your home resort and it gets wiped out by a hurricane? Is it safe to assume that they have all kinds of insurance to cover something like this?
Yes they have insurance for this type of thing, and they would most likely rebuild if possible. In the event that they couldn't rebuild, then the insurance money would be used to buy-out the owners.
I'm sorry, but I live in Raleigh, NC and I remember both Hurricanes Floyd and Fran vividly. Not being right on the ocean is no protection from a hurricane. We had major damage from Fran in our area, in fact the eye went right over our house and we're 120 miles from the coast.
Ah yes, good old Fran. I had just moved here from Palm Beach Gardens (S Florida) where I was for 10 years, and NEVER had a hurricane. I come to NC for 5 weeks and BAM, hurricane Fran and lots of damage.
Yes the resort is very well insured, but there is also a deductable to be paid by the owner in case it was wiped out by a storm. Don't quote me but I believe if the resort was to be rebuilt it would cost 600.00 per 200 points. I had ask this question to our guide 5 years ago and he did say we were responsible for the deductable.
