We are heading to HH for the first time in May of next year. This will also be my boys first real trip to the beach (aside from one night stays here and there). So I'm thinking that Easter baskets this year will be beach themed and was hoping to incorporate little certificates to do some of the activities at the resort in them. Anyone have a semi current listing of the activities available and cost?

Edited to add: Also, if there are any must do's around the island that you recommend please feel free to add!

Thanks!!

What kind of things do you enjoy doing? One of our favorite things to do is to walk around Sea Pines Forest Preserve. We also love walking out to the Boardwalk by the end of Beach City Road (I think that's the name of the road-the Port Royal Mud Flats?) However, it's not very "adventuresome" stuff!

We are usually up for anything pretty much. This will not be a typical vacation for us as we are used to keeping busy and running around on vacation. Just looking for things to do in between pool and beach time; also planning to go into Savannah at least one day.

How old are you boys? That may help for activities.

For instance they might really like Zip Line Hilton Head if they are old enough and weigh enough or Aerial Adventure at the same place is a high climbing adventure and really fun for a wide variety of ages and abilities.

Lawton Stables offers nice hour long trail rides on horse back in Sea Pines.

At the resort my 10yo DS really does not like the "arts and crafts" activities they offer but really enjoys activities like the marsh walk, beach combing walk, sand sculpting, etc. which are all free. Now my DD likes to do the arts and crafts which include pillow making, mug making, tie-dye Mickey t-shirts, frames etc.

Maybe for their "baskets" you could include boogie boards, sand toys and shovels, swim googles, new bathing suits, and even beach chairs if you want! :)

We stayed at HHI this past June for the first time. My boys 13 & 10 loved riding bikes around the island. Maybe put a bike rental certificate in the basket?

They also liked playing pool, basketball, horseshoes, corn hole and shuffleboard at the various spots around the resort.

Thanks for the suggestions! My boys are 7 and 11, so I was thinking the 7 year old would still be into the activities at the resort but maybe not.

Dolphin cruise, kids night out and anything with the resident naturalist were favorites with mine. Kids night out seems to always sell out and both the 7 and 11 year old could be in the same session. I think they stay at the resort now and have pizza and activities with the cast members. It's usually about 3 hours - 6-9 and will give the parents a chance for dinner out. The kids love it and they get to make friends sometimes.

The naturalist trips are both on the resort, such as exploring the marsh in high mud boots and possibly a beach trip or to Pinckney Island. We've done them all over the years since we've been going to the resort since the late nineties. My kids are grown up now, but we still go and relax and enjoy the island, it is so beautiful.

Bike rental for all the family or just the kids - they can ride inside the resort. Or you can ride with them out on the island's trails or to the beach. Or even on the beach as the sand is hard packed and people ride there all the time.

Then there are the crafty stuff like make a shell necklace or sharks teeth necklace, make a vacation pillow, or decorate a tshirt. They used to have fish tshirt thing - not sure if they still do that one.

And there are the activities with Shadow such as the funny bunny hunt or just Shadow meet and greet type things and tall tails from B'Lou Crabbe focused on Shadow. B'Lou does other stuff like magic and music. He is always entertaining and likes an audience to be responsive.

There is also Goofy Bingo with sometimes a candy or such for prizes, and of course the campfire - we go for the smores!

Your kids age group usually love the recreation cast members and the cm's key in well and give loads of attention to the kids. They sort of become the focus over by the pool and the rec area - that's where the kids will hang out or want to be.

They can also fish or crab of the pier - don't expect them to catch dinner, but it seems to be fun for all ages.

Hope you enjoy it! We have for the last 17 years!

We are going in March this year. My girls are 17 and 14, they are looking forward to a dolphin sighting tour, but mostly shuffleboard, soccer on the beach, cycling, rescuing starfish, Shadow the dog and relaxing in hammocks! We last went 4 years ago and they loved it then too.
We want to take them on the Daufuski island tour and of coarse trying new restaurants.
Last time we brought white dresses, and photographed them on the beach together, built many sandcastles and created mermaids in the sand. This year we are getting them scrapbooks and because they are older, we are giving them freedom to choose a theme , research and discover what they want to photograph, collect and create. They both play and coach competitive soccer so...the relaxation break is much needed before our season goes into full swing in Canada.
Hope this helps! Have a magical trip

Sorry all, I forgot to mention, they love the activities, tie die Mickey shirts, (they sleep in them) pillows, love the campfires too

The onsite activities are great for young kids and your 7 yo in particular will still probably like the arts and crafts a lot. The pool games at both the Beach House and the resort pool are great for kids to make friends at too and the "camp" leaders are all fun and entertaining. Something not to miss on-site is the evening marshmallow roasts! Those end up being really silly sing-along and/or story telling time and it's fun for the whole family.

My daughter didn't enjoy the kids night out event nearly as much as she was expecting, because they just watched a movie and we were expecting cool activities like they do during the day. (We might've just had an off night with that - she's only done it one time.)

My whole family loved kayaking and we saw plenty of dolphins.

For restaurants not to miss, I would recommend "One Hot Mamas" for bbq. They have great pulled pork, and excellent ribs and wings. For pizza, we like Market Street Cafe in Coligny Park.

Also...for seafood, Piggly Wiggly grocery store will steam shrimp on site and that makes for a really tasty and relaxing meal to take back to the resort and enjoy on the deck.

During our day trip to Savannah, we did one of the not-too-scary walking Ghost Tours and we all loved that and got lots of great pictures.

Hope you have fun on your trip!! HHI is such a great vacation spot! You can make it as leisurely and relaxing or as active and adventurous as you want it to be!

Do you rememebr which walking ghost tour you took? I think my boys would love it, but didn't want one that was too scary.

Thanks!!

Our boys will be 6,4 and 2. They loved the pool parties and biking down to the beach house. Strongly recommend Dolphin tour, especially if you get the boat all to yourself.

DO NOT do the Sea Pines Lighthouse. $25 for the family to walk up a hot lighthouse...view was nice but not worth it.

Would also do the Costal Discovery Museum.

My oldest thought night swimming was the coolest things so if they are young get them a nap and they will love that.

Amanda, we went through Southern Strolls and our tour guide's name was Scott Siegel. I think he is the owner of that tour company. He was fantastic! It was only my family on the tour and he asked me before we went how scary or mild my kids would like it and suited the tour to meet our needs. My husband is interested in history, so he tossed a lot of historical facts into the mix too.
