Heys Travelmates now @ Zellers Newmarket!

We redeemed Aeroplan miles for one last month and bought another. After hauling it for 10 days through WDW February 6-15 this is my review on these bags. I know I sang the praises of this bag last month when I found them but since using one I am not so positive about them. I found it very handy going through the airport with. The water bottle holder is nice. The expansion zippers are also great. After this it was misery. The strap and shoulder pad are not designed to hold the weight of the amount of stuff it can supposedly hold. I am 5'9 1/2 and found the bag constantly twisting and dragging to the centre sitting over my belly button. The bag is too big and cumbersome for WDW. The shoulder pad kept sliding down the strap constantly and never stayed in place and the padding was good until day three and our shoulders became so sore we had to keep switching throughout the day as the padding is designed for very light use. This bag will not sit still. We were constantly stopping and adjusting it.
They need to downsize the bag, add way more padding to the shoulder strap and stop it from sliding. This is a great little bag to travel with small ones for the day however. You will do fine with this bag if you keep the contents light.hth

I looked at these bags on Saturday at the Zellers in the Oshawa center. I was so excited to find them. But they are quite a bit smaller than I expected. This Heys bag would be so perfect if it was just me and DH going to WDW. But with a 3 yr old I needed something slightly bigger. I just don't think I could get snacks, waterbottle, cell phone, change of clothes for my son, wipes, wallet, camera, sippy cup etc. all in that bag, even expanded. I ended up ordering a Baggallini online yesterday. I am thinking it will be pretty tight too, but it might have just enough room and if not, it will be perfect for park trips and mall outtings at home.
The dimensions of the Heys- Size: 7" x 9" x 3" - 5" when expanded
Baggallini-13" x 10" x 4"

Kim, do you mind if I ask where you ordered your Baggallini from?

Newcastle,
I ordered it from Shoebuy.com I would post a link but I still don't have enough posts yet. Go to shoebuy.com and search under Baggallini and it is on the 2nd pg I believe. Ebags also sells them too.
I couldn't find a place to order one in Canada, so I went through them. If you enter the promo code sav10 you will get $10 off the bag. You pay the duty and taxes right away. It comes to about $48 CAD with all duties, shipping, and taxes. A bit expensive, but I know I will get a lot of use out of it. If you have a friend in the US you would basically get it for $22 USD with the free shipping, no tax, sav10 promotion and then you could pay them to mail it to you. .....sadly I don't know anyone in the states.

Same problem with us. What we did was put all the non essentials (change of clothes, jackets, extra water) in a backpack and put it in a locker every day.

I'm gonna have to let my wife know about these bags. They look perfect for the kids.

I really interested in getting these bags, but my local Zellers is sold out:sad1: oh well, I will keep checking back

I got mine here at our local Zellers in Orillia. When I was on the plane ride returning home on Monday the 19th the lady across the aisle from me had a pink one (from Orangeville) and her mom sitting behind me had a gray one (from Newmarket). I have a purple one and a black one (for the moments dh doesn't want to be seen carrying purple ;) ). I really liked mine. I didn't use it for everything they say to use it for. It was more of a purse for me. I had my wallet, camera, passports, and other purse stuff in it. I was very happy with it :thumbsup2

Check down by the luggage area thats where we found ours. The hand bag area didn't have any. Weird they put bags in 2 different areas of the store.

My husband and I have similar bags we bought from Mountain Equipment Coop a couple of years ago. They fit our cameras and other items, has a place that fits passports etc. We love them and they have served us well.
Two trips to Thailand, one to Ukraine and now they will be used for WDW.

They had a huge selection in about seven different colours for $22.96. They were a tad smaller than I expected, but that's not such a bad thing. It means I'll be forced to leave a few things behind and not have to drag them around the park with me!! lol
Hubby picked up a waist pouch for $9.99 too. he thought the Travelmates were too "pursey". lol

Edited to Add: This was in London at the Zellers at Huron and Highbury.

Hey and they have them in DIS Lime Green!!!

We got ours in Hamilton Zellers. It is also availible at Zellers online. My kids bought purple and blue and I bought army green!! I will not tote mine around the park...can't give up the old fanny pack but will use it at DDT and in the airport!! It will hold lots of travelers cheques!!LOL:banana:

Because of the reviews on this board (thanx everyone!), I went to my nearest neighbourhood Zellers store in St. Catharines, ON today and they had a million of them. They had pink, light blue, navy blue, black, light purple, bright army green. I bought a navy blue one and I love it already. We leave for our first trip to Disney on April 21st. I bought each of my kids (DD 10yrs; DS 7yrs) a water bottle holder/fanny pack "for kids" from Canadian Tire today too...looks like they'll be great for Disney, as well as for biking and hiking here at home in Thorold. I bought my DH a "backpack cooler" online and it's awesome too...it will definitely see a lot of use!

Anyway, thanx for all your wisdom on this board...it's been amazing!

I'll second KiKi Mouse's endorsement of the Mountain Equipment Coop bag. We just finished our second trip to WDW with one, and it was just as perfect this trip as it was on our vacation two years ago. It's not too big and cumbersome, the strap doesn't slide around, you can pack quite a bit in it, and my shoulder never got sore once, no matter how much I crammed into the bag! And my husband loved the fact that I didn't make him carry a big, heavy backpack. We vowed that we would never do that again after breaking our backs on our first trip to WDW.....

May I ask where you saw them on Zellers.com? I did a search on that site and nothing came up called travelmate. I was hoping to order one and have it shipped to my local Zellers to avoid shipping fees.

thanks! :)

This thread is fairly old, but coincidentally I just purchased the Heys Travelmate Bag at my local Zellers (Georgetown, ON) for $22. I found it in the Ladies Wear Department on the back wall near the athletic clothes. I don't know much about their website, so maybe someone else can help with that. Good luck!

We picked up a Heys Kids Designer Disney carry on at Zellers on sale for $24.95. When we got to the check out it rang up at $11.95!!! This was a week and a half ago. We got the Travelmate for $6.95 too. They were on clearance.
