Hey! You had your trip, this time I'm in charge! Nicki & Todd LIVE!! Completed :(

I felt much better after lunch and we decided to walk back through DTD and get some Babycakes for a snack in the room and do some shopping. Many mistakes with that idea

For one the crowds, they seemed to triple in size since we arrived an hour earlier. The shops carry the same exact stuff they always do, dont know why we bother heading to DTD since you can find all this stuff in the parks. Mistake #3? Babycakes

Since Babycakes is lactose/dairy free I knew I could have something without popping a pill or getting sick. It was super busy in there and it was hard to get some pictures of the items in the cases

Todd - This is the stuff you want? It looks sickly

Me - Truthfully the reviews are pretty bad but I want to try a pumpkin something

Todd - Why dont we go back to the bakery and get a good one?

Me - Because I want to eat a whole cupcake and not a bitefull

Todd - So what you are saying is you dont want to share?

Again, its all about him :rotfl2:

I ordered a pumpkin cupcake and a slice of pumpkin bread for DH...the CM said they were both lactose/dairy free. He put them on a plate and I forgot to ask for a bag and he had already moved on to the next customer so we just ate them outside

Oct22009.jpg

They smelled amazing, the strongest pumpkin cinnamony smell and I couldnt resist a fingerful of the frosting...holy moly batman this was good! A pumpkin cinnamon cream cheese like smooth creamy frosting..it was all good..until I tasted the cupcake part...NASTY! It was dry as a sponge and had the funkiest taste to it...this deserves the first BLECH of the trip!

While I was gagging on my sponge DH was making the weirdest face, he had a mouthful of the pumpkin bread and said

"Healthy stuff stinks!"

:rotfl:

We had to get that taste out of our mouth so he had a Ghiradelli chocolate and I had a Disney mint.

While the idea of gluten free, lactose free, sugar free is nice the real title should be TASTE FREE!

We left DTD around 2 and I was bus sick all the way back...these guys are just terrible drivers, ride the break too much and the ac wasnt on or if it was it was on low. From now on we are going to drive ourselves...get there faster and no car sickness! Turns out BWI was the last stop for 5 resorts so we hopped off at Swan and walked back, it was much faster.

Then we fell asleep for 3 hours! Did we make our dinner reservations??

Let me say that I NEVER take naps and I mean ever...I am just a very awake person but Todd lives and breathes for snacks and naps, in whatever order he can get them in. Since R&R made me get a headache, the buses made me car sick and the smell in the Swan made me queasy again all I wanted to do was lie down, before you know it we were both snoring away and if it wasnt for some kid screaming down the hall we would have slept through our dinner reservation at Citrico's!

Me - Get up get up, we are going to be late for Citrico's!

Todd - (Grumpy cuz I woke him) Gimme a minute

Me - I can cancel it

Todd - No, we're Hildebrant's, we gotta eat

That is our family motto :lmao:

I called the valet, we cleaned up quick and were outta here. The traffic to the GF was nuts, turns out there is a huge golf thing going on and there are cars and buses everywhere.

We valeted the car and made it to Citrico's right on time...they were totally empty..so weird. We had a great seat by the window and watched Cinderella's horse drawn carriage come through.

My headache was gone but I didnt want to chance it coming back so I stuck to water and Todd had a sangria. He liked it but said Kouzzina's was much better

Oct22014.jpg

Room temp butter with citrus sea salt...love that it was softenend, nothing worse than ripping your bread trying to spread frozen butter on it

Oct22015.jpg

Very warm and soft kalamata olive bread and whole grain bread. DH scarfed down the kalamata olive which is fine with me and I loved the whole grain.

Oct22016.jpg

Then it was time for the great arancini debate

Todd - Do I like the ones from here or the other place (the other place is Via Napoli)

Me - You love them here, you dont like the pasty ones from VN

Todd - You sure, how can you remember this?

Me - I remember everything, plus I have dining reports to refresh my memory

Todd - Well they have cheese in them so you cant have any

Me - Well you will have to order something else then

This is where he gave me the sad face :sad2: I told him to get what he wanted :rotfl2:

Oct22017.jpg

He devoured them and said they were fantastic, that I was right, this was the place with the good balls....thank goodness no one was around to hear that one!

I opted for the Artisanal Green and Heirloom Apple salad - hold the blue cheese. This was perfect for me, loved everything about it except the almonds, they had too much cumin on them to enjoy. The highlight was the little pickled pearl onions, they were amazing!

Oct22018.jpg

DH went with the tried and true short ribs, he loves these and tonight they were just excellent, super tender and no fat at all, except he didnt like the polenta because it was loaded with goat cheese (this is were I cursed my lactose intolerance because that is something I could eat over and over again)

Oct22019.jpg

I had the chicken....yeah I know, CHICKEN? It was insane, so tender and flaky if that is possible and the saffron rissotto was perfect with sweet tender peas...just an excellent dish but large so DH helped me out

Oct22020.jpg

We were both pretty full but I had to get some decent coffee so we shared a pressed pot. The waiter brought out the dessert menu and the only thing I love better than pumpkin is an apple thing so we had to split the cobbler. Todd ate the cinnamon gelato and said it was good but would be better on the hot cobbler (we had asked for it on the side), the cobbler was terrific, loved the tart cranberries!

Another perfect meal at Citrico's! We have been three times so far and each time the food is out of this world and the service is top notch!

After dinner we drove back to our resort and the conversation went a little like this

Me - So what are we going to do tomorrow?

Todd - Do you have an off switch?

Me - (totally ignoring him) Did you look at your chart

Todd- Since it says just one thing "Epcot" I guess we are going to Epcot?

Me - DING DING DING we have a winner!

But what we didnt decide on is breakfast, do we grab something from BWI bakery, walk in at Kouzzina or go to Sunshine Seasons? That part is up in the air but I do know lunch will be F&W, finally!

When we arrived in our room there was a big basked on the desk, a huge assortment of fruit from my BFF's amazing son Andy (KatMark's son). We met him a few weeks ago in Naples and had coffee and dinner together...if I was to have a kid I would want him to be just like Andy, such a wonderful guy! Hugs and kisses to you and Kathy, tell him I'm gonna get him!

Todd was blown away by the generosity and said

"Well, thanks so much to Andy, he just decided breakfast for us!"

:rotfl:

The stuff from Babycakes doesn't even look good! Why can't healthy food taste good?! Looks like I'll be trying out Citricos on my next trip, everything looked heavenly. Keep the reviews coming:thumbsup2

Great reviews, as always!:goodvibes

Thank you!

Boy am I late to the party! :dance3:

Nicki your reviews are the best! :thumbsup2

A belated Happy Birthday! Cant think of a better place to spend it than at WDW!!!

Better late than never and thanks for the birthday wishes!

Thats what DH said, why do you want to eat stuff that doesnt even look tasty?? Citricos delivers every time we eat there, no hit or miss at this place!

I won't say much as we've been talking for the last 10 minutes.

Todd and his pretzels -- he cracks me up (be sure he finds the Mickey Mouse pretzel -- I saw a picture today and it is huge!). Sorry about the headache (that's why I won't do Rock & Roll). The bus drivers are the reason I prefer driving everywhere.

Your dinner looks yummy.

OMG you go fast with this reports! Citrico's looks like something to go on my to do list... As for Kouzzina, I see it still has problems with their staff... As for that jalapeño pretzel I'll have to be the judge of that, it DOES look good, but for me anything with cheese on it is yummy. :rotfl:
Hope you're feeling better.

You have such kind, generous friends! :goodvibes

I'm loving your dining reviews. Sorry you weren't feeling so well for the first part of the day. I know what you mean about the buses, I can get a little car sick too on them sometimes, and they take forever when they make so many stops.

Dinner looked fantastic! Your salad looks so good and fresh!

Ohhh Citricos....my love. Thanks for the photos. Hopefully they have the menu when I go in exactly one week because I want to try the Carpaccio!

Thank you for posting the most recent Citricos menu! I love seeing how the menus change, and right now I just wish I could try the wagyu beef carpaccio and the apple cranberry cobbler. :worship:

Love the review. So sad Babycakes was a bust. I love vegan pastries. I am hoping they improve by the time I get there...in another 6 years or so. :rolleyes1 Happy Birthday and have a great rest of your trip!

Hope you are having a great time, Nicki!

And Happy belated Birthday!

As always, love reading your reviews...

We are going to be flying down on Thursday night...can't wait to get there!

So now I need to go to Citricos as well !!!
I think I am going to have to extend my trip (or waist-band )

Enjoying your LIVE TR! It's always fun to follow along on a live report - almost let's the reader feel like they're experiencing it themselves. :)

So sorry the gluten free desserts were a negative. I was hoping to hear they would be good. Do the medications that are available not help you with lactose intolerance? It definitely makes things a little trickier for you food wise - but it looks like you do great at picking out yummy dishes! :woohoo:

Looking forward to reading more! :surfweb:

Still reading and loving every minute. I am, as always, amazed at your dedication posting these reviews LIVE. I often have similar goals, but can never seem to find the time.

I don't think I've ever read a good review of Babycakes. Sorry for the wasted time/money on that experiment!

Mmmm, I had that Citricos cobbler a couple of weeks ago, and LOVED it. Almost tried the short ribs, but I just can't tear myself away from their filet. I didn't regret it at all, but one of these days I'm going to try something different there!

Sounds like you two are having a great time, and I am looking forward to reading more!

Have a magical day!!!

Loving all the reviews along the the banter between you two! :) One of these days my husband and I need to try a 2TS meal. We have not ventured into that world yet. Perhaps its because the kids (young and old) are always with!!!!! Oh, and I'm stingy with my dining credits too I suppose. Citricos does look good. Have a wonderful day at Epcot and F&W today!!!! Good Luck keeping the Hubby in line the rest of the trip!!!!!!!! ;)

Yes they are huge. :) Mk in Frontierland for the Mickey pretzel.

Lovin all the dining reveiws. Storing away all these tips for next time. :goodvibes

Sorry you got such a headache. Feeeling quesy in WDW is just not right.

I just love your reports. They keep getting better and better with all the conversations between you and Todd. Thanks for doing this live. Makes it even better!

Great reviews. Love the peek at Citrico's current menu. I keep thinking about getting the Neverland Club for Max one night and sneaking out for an adult meal. :rolleyes1 But I probably won't, at least not on this short trip. Your meals there look fantastic, by the way. Yum. Always looking forward to more...can't wait to hear what EPCOT holds for you today. How are you enjoying the BWI?
