There's another Star Trek movie due to be filmed. The new film Star Trek XI (Working title) is due out in 2008, as of right now. According to Memory Alpha, this trek film will take place during Kirk and Spocks academy days, or early in their careers. There's been talk of having Matt Damon as Capt. Kirk, but then again, nothing official has been put out so until that does all this is pure speculation. Can't wait. I am such a Trekkie. :cheer2: GEEKS UNITE  :dancer:

Matt Damon as Capt. Kirk? Where's the vomit smiley when you need one? :faint:

I'm sorry, but I just cannot get behind him as Capt. Kirk. Give me William Shatner (old and decrepit as he is) any day!

JMO. YMMV. See retailer for details. Not all spacecraft in stock.

Wow you mean there actually may be a Captain Kirk who can actually act? I may voluntarily watch this and not be forced kicking and screaming by my DH!

I think its a good idea to do somehting a little different and go back in time like that. I mean how many more movies can we take of the same ole same ole, fascinating, live long and prosper stuff, or even worse another Picard/Riker film, "Engage." sounds like they are trying to mix things up and I think thats a good thing, no Matt Damon though he is such a punk, no Keauna Reeves, I just can't stand all those trendy actors, lets see someone a little edgy.

Captain Mal from Firefly/Serenity would make for a better Captain Kirk. Or Han Solo.... :smooth:

I never had a problem with William Shatner. I always thought he did a good job...but then again I've never been to critical of movies.

Yes, it is true that there is a new Star Trek movie due, written and directed by JJ Abrams, but what it is about, and who stars in it, is mere speculation. Abrams has said that he wants to keep it faithful to the original. The first rumor was that it took place at Star Fleet Academy, but Abrams then said no. Other rumors include that it would simple start all over. Many trekkies object to this, since they feel you can't get suspense if you know, for example, that Kirk and Spock won't die. (Any fool could tell you that, but you get the point.) Obviously, not all of them have read Enterprise by Vonda K. MacIntyre, which told the story of Kirk's first appearance on the Enterprise, and was one of the best of the novels. (It helped to have a real writer doing it, instead of a fanboy on steroids.)

I would love to see more movies with Riker/Picard. I'd LOVE to see something with Deanna Troi, too.

Too bad Data blew himself up in the last one. He was one of my favorites.

Exactly, it's all speculation at this point. I had heard of using Capt. Kirk and the rest of the original cast, but younger before I read anything about it...so I know that is one avenue they could take. I would love to see something with now Capt. Riker and Deanna Troi heading off into deep space, as was his orders at the end of the last movie.

I thought the samething...in fact, I shed a tear in the movie theater when that happened. But as Brent Spiner gets older it'll be harder for him to look agless as an android, bet that's why they did it. It's not like he's not done other things. I caught Brent Spiner in the rvival of 1776 - man was he awesome to watch live.

But he's not SUPPOSED to look ageless. In one of the later eps, he explains that built into his programs or subsystems or SOMETHING rather technical sounding is an aging program.

Matt Damon as Kirk??!?!?! :faint:

A new Star Trek movie - and my wife goes Yaahhhhoooo!!!

As for me, I'm more of a casual trekie, I can take it or leave it.
