Is there any discount ways you booked your rooms?

I went directly to the Hyatt site and got a $185 rate for one night on a weekend - does this seem OK? Seemed fair to me, but I wanted to check with my advisory panel here on the DIS first before booking. :thumbsup2

I've been watching discussions on this subject, and a few people report getting great deals off of Hotwire.

The deal is you go to hotwire, plug in your dates, check of MCO airport area.

You're looking for 3.5 star hotel, it may mention a shuttle, even though you don't need one, and it mentions tennis.

It's risky, because you're not 100% sure what you're booking, but they spent something like $65 a night!

check out this thread... http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1001780&highlight=hyatt

I have AAA and use that, my rate is a little less than what you got (162.50). I am going to keep going back and checking the site, though.

I also got an AAA rate, which was the same as their senior rate, said my TA...

my CAA rate was $142.50 and I booked 2 rooms. I called direct to the hotel - the lady I spoke with was very helpful and suggested calling back regularily to see if they had any senior rates (DMIL with us) which would be cheaper or 2nd room 1/2 price. She said different specials are not always announced ahead of time.
I haven't called back yet though, this thread has reminded me to do so :goodvibes

Hmmmmmmm. anybody know what the age is for thier senior rate.....I'm in the sometimes available bracket right now ;)

Well, I wouldn't know from personal experience :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

but you have to be over 60...I heard....
AARP membership doesn't cut it...

I stayed there one night last May for $165 AAA.

It is a deal compared to what we got it for....$202 (this includes taxes) through AAA, who used some hotel outlet in CA. The best rate I found on my own was $275 everywhere. Now Hyatts website says no availablity at all for 2/15, so I guess it'll do....I wonder if it is because it is the week rolling into Presidents Day weekend.

We booked the Hyatt via AAA for $165-ish for this one night about 3 weeks out from our stay. The week before we were to leave I went to Hotwire and got the hotel for $88/night. I considered that a deal!

Now, we were told by others that one couldn't really tell what hotel you were getting, but the Hyatt we did get! It was the only 3.5 star listed. I just went and checked Hotwire and the only 3.5 listed is currently going for $204 for the time I requested for October (DVC Member cruise). I'll just keep checking back and see how it goes from there. It was EXTREMELY convenient and extremely quiet!

I'd actually love to stay at the Airport Marriott to see what that is like, but I'm not sure that they work with Hotwire. It's just a short shuttle ride to the airport for the cruise bus in the a.m. and I think I could handle that.

I just checked for the night before our 7 day western in August, and the federal gov't rate was $101.00. My DH is in the Marine Corps reserves, so that he gets that.

Do most folks fly down the night before? I am worried about flight delays and stuff, or getting up at 4am and being so tired for any fun the first night of the cruise!

You'll find a lot of folks prefer to fly in the night before. I can't count how many delayed flights I have been on, and for me, the stress just isn't worth it. Have a nice leisurely morning the day of your cruise and relax! Plus there are MANY other hotels in the MCO area that don't cost nearly as much as the beloved Hyatt.

and you are running into a huge vacation week (at least for the Northeast states)

One thing very consistent you will find here is go down the day before. You never know what would happen to delay you and they won't hold the ship (except in limited circumstances).

If you can fly in the day before DO IT! It's less stressful on the young and old. You have the day to breath relax and regroup before you have to get back into the cattle line to get to the ship.

I'm so glad to find this site! Fly in the night before seems to be the advice - and to go on a Friday afternoon vs. Saturday morning is easy to do. Thanks everyone for that tidbit - we'll definitely do that. The Hyatt looks relaxing and fairly decent - and so convenient. That way we could get room service and be relaxed the morning of the cruise.

We always fly in the night before cruises and we stayed at the hyatt prior to our last dcl cruise. it is very convient and it is a nice hotel. You can watch the plane from the pool, which my son got a kick out of. Our room overlooked the courtyard of the airport, which was great, I'm such a people watcher.

Thank goodness I reserved my car a few months ago, there are 3 companies with no cars left and the rest have jacked their prices up. I had no idea that was such a big vacation week!

If you are using DCL transportation to the ship the Hyatt can check you in upstairs at their lobby. They will take your bags and stamp your transportation coupon. That way you don't have to stand in line downstairs to check in. You can go straight to the line to get on the bus.

Great plan, Tiggerstac! I do that too..VERY convenient! The mall below had a neat display of one of the first space suits used in manned space flight and some educational information about it, as well...
The only drawback I found was the fact that their handicapped accessible rooms did not have a pushbutton entry and, in fact, had weighted self-closing doors so the problem couldn't even be fixed by removing the hydraulic arm at the top of the door inside the room...Of course, I could neither get in the room, nor out of the room without having someone hold the door open...Sure kept the staff hopping.. I plan to stay there a couple more times this year...Sure hope their remodeling included automatic doors!

I was able to get the Hyatt through priceline for $45. What a great place. we even had a balcony overlooking the airport terminal. It was a gamble but one I would do again.
