Hey honey, let's take our moms to WDW instead of going to Vegas just the two of us!

Howdy y'all!

I'm obliged to start that way being from Texas, but I must confess I rarely use the word Howdy! Can't say the same about y'all though! I use it a lot!! :rotfl:

I've managed to wait til 75 days out to start this pre-trip report, which that in and of itself was a challenge. I've been planning and reading the DIS religiously since July. I've been tempted to start many times before but resisted. But can't...hold... on...much.... longer. (any one seen Between the Lions? :goodvibes )

So first things first, a bit about the cast of this pre-trippie.

princess: Me- 29, Stay at home mom and a Disney World fiend. My first trip was the summer after Kindergarten and we went nearly every other year til I graduated high school. I've been back a few times since and took my oldest DS when he was 4 but had to leave DH at home to work. :sad2: I graduate from college FINALLY in December so this trip is partly a celebration of my graduating. :teacher:

:wizard: DH- 30 but will be 31 before the trip. Grew up 5 hrs from Orlando and NEVER went to WDW. This floors me. His sister, on the other hand, loves it. Go figure. He took a bit of convincing but is willing to give it a go, at least once. Loves everything to do with food. Even considered going to culinary school but taught himself instead. He works too stinkin' much and will definitely need a vacation come January.

pirate: DS1-5 years old, Loved it the first time and has since been to Disneyland with his Dad and stepmom. Is thrilled to go back. He's a thrill ride lover and is tall enough for all the rides this time around. He turns 6 the day before we leave. I am taking him out of school for this trip, I know shame on me :guilty: but I keep telling myself this is a once in a lifetime thing and he is taking all his makeup work with him. I definitely won't do it as he gets older.

:earsboy: DS2- 9mths, He started this whole idea 9 mths ago, technically. He was born on DS2's 5th bday and I got the brilliant idea to celebrate their first birthday(s) at the Happiest Place on Earth. Ok, it took me 6 mths to get the idea but still. If he hadn't been born on DS1's bday, the idea would have never formed. We're trying to put off his first hair cut for the trip, but may not make it. So he turns 1 the day before we leave!! My how time flies!

:flower3: Mom- ripe young age of 66. Texan also Loves Disney as much as I do. Went to DL when she was 13, and WDW in the mid 70's shortly after it opened. Her happy place memory is standing in front of the castle during Wishes.

:daisy: MIL- Georgia Peach, 59. Went to WDW for the first time w/ me in 07. Enjoyed herself a lot, especially Epcot. Soarin made her declare she wanted to take flying lessons. Is thrilled to get to see her grandsons any chance she gets.

So to explain my title:
DH and I try to get away just the two of us once every other year, and have managed Vegas the last two trips. We're both wannabe foodies. DH had his own restaurant for a whlie so places to eat are half of our appeal to Vegas. We research the restaurants, pouring over the menus for months before we go. The other half is where else can you get 4 and 5 star hotels so cheap? So we'd always go during off season and leave oldest DS with my mom and DS's dad. Then along came DS2 and I really wasn't feeling leaving my baby with my mom for a week. Not that I don't totally trust my mom, but he's my baby and majorly attached to me. (ok ok I'm majorly attached to him)

So I started asking DH what if we could combine the two ideas of Vegas, his and my dream couples vacation (at least up until I convert him to love WDW :thumbsup2) and my dream family vacation of WDW. Well, he was all ears, (pun intended, I hope  ) especially after I had told him we couldn't make Vegas this next year b/c I wasn't ready to leave DS2 behind. My poor DH tells his boss, "Well my vacation of just me and my wife to Vegas has turned into taking not only the kids, but my mother and mother in law to Walt Disney World. How the *#$@ did I let that happen?!" But he is actually looking forward to it now that I've shown him all the menus.

So that is how the idea of bringing along the grandma's was born. We'll have built in babysitters the whole trip. 'Course the fact that my mom loves loves loves Disney World and has been more times than I have, and the fact that DH's mom lives 5 hrs away and loves to see her grandchildren any chance she gets, definitely helped things along!!

DH gave me the green light in July and away I went with massive amounts of different plans and scenarios. I impatiently waited til Disney published the calendar info for February and til Southwest opened booking up thru March. We originally planned on going in February but due to some weird job stuff with DH we had to bump it up to January. Darn, two less weeks of waiting!! :yay: I tried to be there for the day of the boys' birthdays but again, weird DH job stuff. :confused3 Why his boss doesn't understand that WDW trips are more important than work conflicts, I'll never know!! :lmao:

So we booked the POP Century for Jan 21-27th with a 5 day base ticket. I played with ADR's until I confused even myself. Read countless trip reports and food reviews and just when I'd get all my ADRs settled, I'd read a bad or good review and switch them all up again.

Then along came Thursday Nov 6th! I had read on here about the HUGE deal coming out. Even though I thought I was being really good about checking mousesavers daily, wouldn't ya know the one day I don't is the one day they announce a deal. So I was on the thread with everyone on DIS yesterday counting down til 5pm est and was on the phone immediately. Got a CM that hadn't yet booked a trip with the new promo so that was fun (read: took forever and I had to talk reaaaaaaaaaaaaally slowly) but I got the code applied to our reservation!! We got an extra day and still saved around 400$ per room. And because my mom and mother-in-law have a seperate reservation, they'll get a 200$ gift card too! WOOT! So needless to say I was pretty stinking happy yesterday. :yay: :dance3:

Thankfully we had booked Southwest as our air carrier and they don't charge to switch flights. So I was able to extend our flight for a day for the same price as our original reservations. :cheer2:

So after all that!! I had to add another day of ADRs. LOL So this trip report will probably turn into half food, half everything else. :rolleyes1 I warned ya now!!

I've never taken a child in diapers before. Should be an experience! It remains to be seen whether or not I'll still be nursing DS2 when we go, which will determine how many cocktails I'll be reviewing as well. :drinking1

That about sums up the background! I'll try to get around to posting my many ADRs soon!!

Great start to your TR - I hope you have a magical trip :)

i found you!!!!

Even though i'm still bummed we're not going to be there at the same time, i'm excited that you're almost going to be there for the boys' birthdays and that your trip is two whole weeks sooner!

And, just for the record, you *do* use "y'all" a lot! :P

:cool1: I am so excited for you. Dh and I have been every year since 2002. I had never been before. He and I are Pooh sized so you know we love the food, too. This year is special--my parents are going. Usually my MIL and BIL go with us. MIL wants to participate in our church christmas program and is begging out this year. So my parents know our infatuation with the world and are letting me be the tour guide. Yipeeee! So this is how it worked out. I planted the seed last Nov. before our 2007 trip to give my Dad time to budget. I also gave him a 2008 Passporter for his Bday. Then in Jan I got a 40% off card in the mail so we are getting rooms and dinning 40 %off. Dad was all about that little deal. I have filled them in on the ADRs all along and recently gave them 2 MVMCP tickets for their anniversary. Then for Daddy's birthday last week, we gave them a little Canon digital camera. He is 71 and she is 65, both young for their age and to hear their awe at being able to take 1,000 pics on a postage stamp disc is great. So we are going to take it easy and have a blast. Dh and I do not have children so we can sleep in or take them where ever we want to.. a dream trip for me. Luckily MIL is waiting in the wings for next year and those plans are in the works as we speak. Have a wonderful time with your family and bless you for having a great relationship with your mom and MIL--they are very lucky.:)

Awww thank u!!! DH and I are pooh sized too, so you know I poured over DxDP a million ways to see if it would be worth it for us. No matter how I run it, we can do it cheaper OOP. Go figure. We started Weight Watchers 3 wks ago, and are going to try to not go too overboard while in WDW but then again, it is our vacation and food is a big part of our fun!!
Your parents sound just like mine! Mom and Dad are five years apart, so 66 and 71. I was their late in life SURPRISE! :scared1:
Mom loves WDW, but Dad not so much. Thankfully he lets her go without him with his blessing. I can just see your Dad taking a ton of pictures with that new camera!! :upsidedow
Score on your 40% off room and dining!!! That's awesome. If I just so happen to get one of those babies in the mail or via email between now and January, the reservation will get played with once again. :rotfl2: I can't tell you how many times I've adjusted our airfare reservation. Thank God for Southwest and their no change fee!!!

Have a Magical Day! Thanks for posting!! :flower3:

And cake we will eat! Oh yes we will! And cheesecake, and e'clair's, and No Way Jose's, and Goofy Candy Co. treats and.... ! You get the picture. :rotfl:

So the food! Let's face it, that's the real reason DH is going. Having never experienced WDW, he really does not know what to expect. But food, good food, he knows.

He did help me look through menu's and look at food porn and put his two cents in some, but mostly I've planned the meals, timing, days of the parks etc. Honestly, I'm a bit nervous that it won't all run smoothly. :scared:

I've never been to WDW with a bunch of ADRs. Most of the trips I've been on have been with my mom and oldest sister and we tend to split meals and wing it. So a lot of these restaurants are going to be as new to me as to DH.

I should say now that it's possible MIL won't be able to make it and if she does make it, she may not stay the whole 7 nights. She's up in the air but our plans don't hinge on her being there, so we told her she has time to decide.

Itinerary thus far complete with ADRs:

1/21 - arrive in Orlando mid afternoon. Check in to POP Century and hopefully meet MIL there.

ADRs: none

Plans: Either resort hop, with hopes of ending up at Beaches N Cream or head to DTD for Earl of Sandwich or Wolfgang Puck Express. Allowing for the possibility of extreme Mommie overload having been clung to on the plane for 3 hrs by two kiddos, plus travel time to and from airports, so there's a real possibility that we may crash at POP with a yummy flat bread from Everything Pop and a bubble bath!

1/22 - MK all day

ADRs: CP for 8am for all 6, Jiko for just DH and I @ 9:50pm.

Plans: I'm still up in the air about CP. The whole reason I booked CP was to get into the park early for empty park pics, but I just realized it's AM EMH that day, so I may just cancel it. On the other hand it all looks so yummy. So time will tell on this one. Part of me thinks that we'd be better off sleeping in. If we do sleep in, we'll try to catch breakfast at Main Street Bakery.
Jiko is one of the ressie's I'm worried about making in time. The plan is to put the boys and Moms on a POP bus from MK, and then catch an AKL bus ourselves. AT PARK CLOSE. Cus Wishes is a must do. So wish us luck!!

1/23- Epcot all day, mainly FW.

ADRs: Chefs de France for 6 @ 12:10pm, Narcoosee's just the two of us @ 6:55pm

Plans: I *think* Epcot is going to be DH's favorite park, so I'm really looking forward to seeing if he gets the Disney bug this day. If we don't make it around to WS, I'll probably end up cancelling the Chefs de France ressie. It may depend on where we end up for breakfast and when we eat it. Narcoosee's! I'm so excited about this ressie. Just DH and I, and hopefully timed to catch Wishes towards the end of our meal. I've drooled over this menu the most. I'm planning on leaving Epcot early enough to get the Moms and boys back to POP and settled, let DH and I freshen up and get to GF in plenty of time to explore a little.

1/24- DHS all day

ADRs: Brown Derby @ 2pm all 6 of us, Boma all 6 of us @ 9pm.

Plans: Sadly we'll miss Fantasmic this trip. It was the only reason we would have needed a park hopper and I decided to spend the extra money on food instead. All :worship: food! I've eaten at Brown Derby before but it was a long time ago. DH is looking forward to the original Cobb salad. Boma is another one that I'm really excited about trying, and we're gonna be generous and let the moms and boys go, too. ;)

1/25- AK day, DTD that evening

ADRs: Yak and Yeti for 6 @ 2pm.

Plans: Breakfast at the hotel. This is our only AK day and it closes at 5pm. We're gonna try to hit the high lights but I doubt we'll do any of the walking trails. Just EE, FOTLK, the safari, Bug's Life and maybe Nemo. Plus lunch. We're planning on heading over to DTD, (again, if we make it the first night) and eating at either Earl of Sandwich or Wolfgang Puck Express. If we did make it to DTD the first night, we'll eat at whichever place we didn't eat at then.

1/26- MK all day, catch Spectro and Wishes for the last time.

ADRs: Kona Cafe for all 6 of us @ 8:55am.

Plans: YUM! I've never been to Kona so I'm super excited about it. Plans for dinner right now consist of Casey's hot dogs during the parade, but I'm contemplating adding another date night for DH and I. I'm torn, b/c MK has PM EMH that night. If I do make an ADR that night, it'll be another late late one, and we'll put the boys and the moms on the bus back to POP again and head to wherever our ADR is. I may make an ADR just in case and decide that day if we'll go.

1/27- Epcot all day, mainly WS.

ADRs: Le Cellier for 6 @ 11:50am.

Plans: Our last day! :sad1: We'll hit the rest of Epcot that we missed on our first day there. Planning on having a light breakfast that day to save room for Le Cellier lunch. Another famous place that I haven't been. I'm hoping it's cold that day so I can have a big ol bowl of Cheddar Cheese Soup! I hope to snack around the world for Dinner and end up next to Mexico with a Margarita (assuming I'm not nursing DS2) to watch Illuminations.

1/28: Catch the ME around noon to fly home

ADRs: none.

Plans: I may add a breakfast ADR somewhere but I'm leaning toward sleeping in, taking our time to pack up and just catch breakfast at Everything Pop.

No, I don't plan much! :lmao:

Would love to hear anyone's thoughts on the plans I have already and any suggestions on one last date night for DH and I. I'm considering Spoodles, Citricos, Flying Fish, Yachtsman Steakhouse, or Cali Grill. Assuming I could get an ADR.

Thanks for reading!

From our last WDW trip in April '07:

It was really cold the first night we were in MK like upper 40s, which being from Texas counts as cold to us !, so the Moms bought matching sweatshirts! They'd kill me for sharing this but I can't resist

Not my best angle, but this pic cracks me up. DS2 may have only been 4 but he still weighed over 50 lbs. We rented a stroller for the parks, but on the way back to the room, I had to over the shoulder him. It was the only way I could get him to the room. He had officially reached his limit.

Sorry I've been MIA lately, I had a ton of stuff due for school last week. I have one more round of tests and I'm done!!

It seems we may be approaching a Grand Gathering of people! DH's sister and husband are going to try to join us. I don't have many details yet, whether they'll be staying at the Pop Century as well or another resort, but I'll keep y'all posted!! I'm excited about it!

Here are some more recent pictures as promised:

Yayayayayayayay there are my handsome boys!

i love how you can see how much the lil man drools lol. He's like a little drool machine.

That's cool that DH's sister and hubby might join you at WDW! i'm sure you'd have a great time with them. Just don't sacrifice any of your date nights!

:lmao:
So DH and I are self-professed foodies, which means we watch a lot of food network, and we were just watching Emeril Live. He talked about his 7 p's and I died laughing, as an OCD planner, I decided this is my new motto!

7 p's:

Proper Prior Planning Prevents P!$$ Poor Performance!

:thumbsup2

I just finished yet another spreadsheet on Dining options and it's now looking like the DDP may save us over 100$. Everytime I run those numbers, I get a different answer. I'm still on the fence with it!! I'm still waiting for the official official list of DDP restaurants to come out.

Lulu Twinnie!! Yes, he's a drool bucket and was actually droolin more than normal last week because he had a sore throat  and the doctor said kids his age just let the drool escape down their chin to avoid having to swallow. Who knew!

:cool1:  :worship: :dance3: :yay: :cheer2:

We paid off our package today!!!! And I'm trying to avoid watching the news to not panic. :scared:

Two more weeks of school and then I'm done!!

I changed some ADRS. We dropped Crystal Palace, Yak N Yeti, Le Cellier ( I know- the horror!), and Chefs de France. Added a lunch on our last day at Tutto Italia, and another date night for DH and I at Wolfgang Puck Cafe.

Sister-in-law and her hubby still have not decided. I'll have to change all our ressies from 6 to 8 and I'm worried the longer they take to decide, the less chance I'll have to get bigger tables. :scared1: Not a lot I can do about it now.

Hey everyone!
Hope you all had a great weekend, be it Thanksgiving or just another weekend wherever you call home.

Our WDW trip will be here before I know it with all the holidays. Smart on my part, if it had been at all intentional. This time last year I was very pregnant, and planning for the new arrival, and here I am a year later planning a Disney trip for almost the exact same time. All the Disney planning does help me forget that my babies are turning a year older. Where does time go?

My SIL and BIL have not made any decisions yet but I came up with a way to make reservations for 8 and 6, so we are covered either way. I know it's kinda sneaky but I have ressies for 6 in my name, and ressies for 8 in my mom's name for around the same times. The only ressie I lost was Kona breakfast, which I'm bummed about but am willing to trade off to see SIL and BIL. As soon as I know their plans, I will call WDW Dining and cancel whichever ressies we won't be needing. I know it's technically a no no to double book, but I can't stand the idea of losing any of my ressies! Don't hate me please! :guilty:

I am considering cancelling Boma. I'm a little worried since it's MIL, BIL and SIL joining (potentially) that it may be a little risky of a flavor profile to meet everyone's tastes, and I kinda want more flexibility. So I'm toying with that idea. Any suggestions for another meal that would be fun for 8 that wouldn't break the dining budget? (anymore than I already have broken it ;) )

SIL and BIL have recently found out that one of their nieces on his side of the family (SIL is DH's sister) has ovarian cancer. She's 6! So scary! They are still running tests and I don't know much, but they have removed the tumor along with one ovary and are awaiting news as to whether it has spread to any surrounding tissue. So any prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Everytime I get a lil sad about how fast my kiddos are growing up, I try to remember all those parents out there who have lost children, that would have loved to have seen them grow up. It helps me keep perspective and try to enjoy every moment. That's why, despite economic scariness in the world right now, we're celebrating our boys' birthdays at Disneyworld!

Happy Holiday season to all!

i thought you were excited about Yak N Yeti and Le Cellier?!?! :confused3 i'm confuuuuused!

more pics please! :rolleyes1

I WAS excited about Le Cellier and Yak N Yeti but the dining was getting out of control, and I had to make some cuts. :sad2: Le Cellier would only work on the last day in Epcot and by that time I think I will have ordered four filets or something like that. Yak N Yeti looks great, but we eat at PF Chang's a lot and decided that would be a good place to cut back on the food budget s'more.

So I decided to save some 'MUST do's' for future trips, maybe have a lil bargaining chip to get DH back. :thumbsup2 As of now he's saying he wants to do WDW once, but won't commit to more than once, which I kinda understand since he's never been there, but I don't want to give up hope that he'll convert to a big ol Disney fool like me!

More pics are coming. I need to take more pics!! I've gotten bad about keeping the camera ready and around! Plus DS2 is much more mobile and thinks it's funny to run away (ok crawl really fast) from mommie with the strange silver box that flashes red and then white lights at him. :rotfl:

Yay! :cheer2: an update! Now i know why you were using me as a spellchecker last night :goodvibes

i get it about the out-of-control food situation. Hopefully your DH will enjoy himself enough to want to go back.

YES you NEED to take more pics, especially of a certain three little white things that appeared without any notice to auntie!! i wanna see those TEETH!

no pressure or anything :rolleyes1

I really need to quit reading dining reviews, because everytime I read a bad one about a restaurant I have reservations for, or a good one for a restaurant I don't have reservations for, I inevitably end up calling WDW Dine and change it all up!

So to save confusion from I cancelled this and added this, I'm just gonna give you our schedule once more. :rotfl: I admit it's really just me wanting to write it all out again, because for some reason I enjoy writing out our plans even though I have them all memorized by now. Who knew.

January 21 - Scheduled to arrive in Orlando at 4:35pm so we should get to Pop by 6pm, I'm hoping. Supposed to meet MIL and possibly SIL and BIL that night. So I'm trying to plan, with flexibility, without sacrificing any of the things we want to do.

I'm second guessing going over to Beaches N Cream. The ice cream at Ghirardelli's looks just as good as Beaches N Cream, but as I've never eaten at either place, I would love to hear anyone's opinion that has eaten at both places. We are going to resort hop that night, I really want to show DH around the other resorts in hopes that he'll want to return with me again someday and will know what the other resorts are like. :goodvibes I just don't know where we'll end up for grub.

January 22 - Full day in MK. Breakfast at Main Street Bakery, Lunch at wherever, date night for DH and I at Jiko late evening. The rest of the party will probably eat dinner either at the park late, or at Everything Pop on any night we have a date night. I've asked everyone if they wanted me to make them ADRs elsewhere but so far they just want to play it by ear. :confused3

January 23
- Epcot. Breakfast at Everything Pop, Lunch around the World, Date night for DH and I at Narcoosee's early evening with hopes of seeing Wishes during dessert.

January 24 - DHS. Light Breakfast at Everything Pop. Lunch at Brown Derby for all 6 (8???) of us. Dinner at 'Ohana for all 6 or 8 of us.

January 25 - AK. Light Breakfast at Everything Pop. Lunch probably at Yak N Yeti counter service. Even though I cancelled Yak N Yeti TS, I still want to try those eggrolls. Park closes at 5pm, and we'll head either back to the hotel for a rest before DTD or straight to DTD. Dinner at Wolfgang Puck Express and shoppingggggggggg

January 26 - MK all day. Kona Cafe breakfast late morning for 6 or 2 parties of 4 but depending on how much we enjoyed Mainstreet Bakery I may cancel this and just go back for more french toast loaf and cinnamon rolls!! :rolleyes1 Lunch not planned. Last date night for DH and I at Wolfgang Puck Cafe, late late evening after Wishes.

January 27 - Epcot all day. Breakfast snack before lunch at Tutto Italia for all 6 or 8 of us. Plan to snack around WS for dinner before finding a spot for Illuminations.

January 28 - Breakfast at Everything Pop before catching ME to the airport. :sad1:

:dance3: Writing that all out makes me do the happy :dance3: !

I am one exam and two discussion question responses away from graduating!!!! :cool1: :rotfl2: :worship: :dance3: :yay: :cheer2:

It hasn't set in yet, but I'm hoping it will sometime before I get the diploma in the mail. Because I won't get the diploma in until February.

Here's more pictures as promised!!!
