I was just surprised with an announcement that my family is taking me to New York City and Disneyland for a late Father's Day gift. :cool1: :cool1: We'll be flying out of Atlanta on July 20 and returning on July 26!

This will be my first ever trip to DL, after numerous trips to WDW. What are the must sees there? How about the restaurants?

I can't wait to get there, this has been the best Father's Day of my life!:cool1:

I hopefully will have a trip report and pics when I return!

Let me know if you need a list of things to do in NYC (i'm from there originally)

1. Must have Juniors Cheesecake ( there's a store in grand central station)

:wizard: Rudy

There are so many things that you need to see and do !!

Personally these are a big deal to me:

- watching the Aladdin musical in DCA
- watching the Pixar Play Parade in DCA
- watching the electrical parade in DCA
- eating at the Blue Bayou in Pirates of the Caribbean or at Orleans Cafe.
- going on these rides in DCA: California Screamin', Monsters Inc.,
Toy Story Mania, The Tower of Terror (although I like WDW's better)
- going on these rides in DL: Buzz Lightyear's Astroblasters, Finding Nemo
Submarine Voyage, Space Mountain, Autopia, Star Tours, The Matterhorn,
Peter Pan's Flight, Roger Rabbits Car Toon Spin, Big Thunder Mountain
Railroad, Jungle Cruise, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, The
Haunted Mansion, Splash Mountain, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh,
Disneyland Train that goes around the Park
- eating at a character meal like : Goofy's Kitchen in DLH for breakfast or
Dinner, Storyteller's Cafe in GCH for breakfast, Lilo & Stitch Aloha
breakfast at the PCH Grill in DLH, Ariel's Grotto in DCA (although this is
mainly for girls).
- There are also a couple of snacks you might wanna try: Dole Whip and/or
Dole Float, Tigger Tail, Turkey Leg, Jambalaya, Clam Chowder, Jalapeno
Cheese Filled Pretzel

There are so many more things, so I hope others will let you know because
my brain is fried right now haha :) I hope you have an awesome time and
that you get to do and see everything to make it memorable for you !!!

Yeah you!!! What a great gift. We will be there the same time! I want to try a mint julep, they don't have them at WDW. I hear they are too sweet but I have to try it. I also want to try Carnation Cafe, menu items look yummy and they don't have that at WDW either. Have fun!!! Here's hoping for light crowds during our stay:)

I tried a mint julep about a year and half ago, and it was kinda weird for me :confused3
It tasted like really sugary minty sprite. You might like it though, so go for it!
I always believe in trying new things !

Yeah for you.
I just did similar trips for my daughter's 16th bday.
She wanted to go to NYC and LA. (With a three day stop at Disneyland) It was soooo much fun!! You will have a blast!
The best thing for my trip to Disneyland was seeing the Alladdin show and also riding California Screamin'!!!
I am a BIG BABY when it comes to scary rides, and my daughter couldn't believe I rode it, then the next day we waited in line to ride it again...well, I got in the seat, put my bag in the holder- then got off the ride. I couldn't do it again!!!! Hey, I tried it once, right......:worship:

While in NYC things to do and see. (not in any specific order)

1) Junior's Cheesecake - This is by far the best cheesecake in the world. you can find the original resturant in brooklyn. However, there's a small store in Grand Central station (on the westside of GCS) and also a resturant on the lower food court level

2) Statue of Liberty - If you have your heart set on going into Ms Liberty, be prepared to wait on a long line to take the ferry, and an even longer line to get to the base (after 9/11 no one is permitted to the top)

Tip - you can ride the staten island ferry round trip and it passes very close to the statue. and it's FREE!!

3) Chinatown - If your looking for that $10 rolex you will find it there.

4) Little Italy - in the middle of chinatown you'll find this wonderful Italian oasis

5) Shopping - Contrary to popular opinion, shopping in NYC is affordable
two stores I suggest are H & K, and Conway's everytime I go back I bring and empty suitcase so I have room from my stuff from these two stores. they are all over manhattan, one Conways is near 34th street and 8th ave (next block west of Macy's)

6) Pizza - Anywhere but Sabarro's (they are a chain. and nothing like real NYC pizza) maybe a Rays Pizza would be better

7)Hotdogs/Pretzel - know to us NY'ers as Dirty Water Dogs. (because we never see the vendors change the water). hmmm. however if you come across them look for the ones that sell Shofar or hebrew national ones. they are kosher (i'm far from jewish but they have high standards when it comes to food, so you stand a better chance.)

8)Subways - Yes they are safe. and some of those homeless people you see. might be an undercover Transit cop. I can't tell you more don't want to give away all their secrets

9) Times square - I've yet to see why anyone would want to visit times sq. except for NYE.

10) The MET - The Metropolitan Musem is a must for Art buffs. it has a wonderful collection

11) The Museum of Natural history/Haden Planetarium - If you've ever seen the movie "A night at the Museum" this is the Place the Haden Planetarium has an awsome star and solar system show

12) Central Park - depending on the season, you've got to go to the great lawn, just being anywhere in the park is relaxing time

13) Circle line boat tour - A must, they have several tours some that circle the island of Manhattan, and shorter ones that just go up the shorelines and back

14) Madison Square Garden - If your a Sports fan you can catch a NY Knicks or NY Rangers Game (there's also a sporting goods store at the garden (the name excapes me) but they sell autographed item as well)

15)Eat Eat Eat - One of my Favorits places is Dallas BBQ (yeah I know in NYC??) they have 6 locations, very inexpensive. very flavorful, quick service.
Also most kitchens are open late at most resturants.

if anyone wants more details on any of the items let me know or
just google the information I've posted and check their websites.
