On October 12, 1982 I was handed a form. It said "What do you chose as your sexual preference?" You had to check off BOYS or GIRLS. So, I sat down, thought about it a while, and decided.

Checked off BOYS and that was that.

I thought everyone chose a sexual preference! I have read on the DIS that people choose to be ****- or heterosexual. So, I know I'm not the only one who had to pick.

I don't know what the causality is. But there are lots of things for which we don't know the causality. I just object to the dichotomy which says "everything is either genetic or a choice." That is just blantantly problematic.

Take any other kinds of attraction or temperment or taste. What's the cause of being attracted to red-heads, chubby people, men with facial hair, brainy women, feet, leather daddies, long hair, short hair, etc? I don't know, but I sure as don't believe it's genetic and I sure don't believe it's a choice.

In my own case, I have a strong aversion to mayonaise and the smell of tuna. Don't know why. Never had a bad experience with these things. They just gross me out. Doubt it was genetic since, as a child, I apparently ate these things without a problem. GF is absolutely disgusted by milk for no recognizable reason.

Recently I watched Sarah Silverman do standup for the first time. I didn't find it funny. My friends who generally like the same kind of comedy and have the same political and social view on life thought it was hilarious, but it just didn't make me laugh. Why not? I wasn't choosing not to find it funny. But I highly doubt there's something genetic about me which makes me unable to find Sarah Silverman funny.

So you agree tehn that people are born with certain sexual preferences? The 'choice' then is whether to ACT on those feelings or live a life of celebacy and lovelessness or (and even worse) suppress those feelings and marry soemone of the opposite sex that they have no feelings for because it's the 'done thing'.

Can you honestly not see a difference between?

A) an adult homosexual acting out their preference with another consenting adult homosexual.

B) a pedophile rapist acting out his preference upon a unwilling child.

Maybe I am missing your point but just because one feels A is acceptable does not mean that B must also be acceptable. Instead of showing hypocrisy in others, you have shown something else in your self.

Heterosexuality, homosexuality and bisexuality are what they are, it's not about the act of SEX. That is what you do not seem to get. Those individuals would still be what they are regardless of if they ever have sex or not.

Rape is about control, power, and viciousness. It has nothing to do with sex.

I do not know what causes homosexuality. As of 3/9/2007 there is no conclusive medical/scientific evidence that we can point to as the clear cause. Personally, i think it s a mix of factors.

A lesson in psychology.

A male individual suffered horrendous injury to his, uh, private parts. The damage was so extensive that pop psychologists at the time (if you'll excuse the term) decided it would be better to raise him as a girl.

The individual was fine until puberty. He then became aggressive and reclusive. The doctors tried to persuade him to undergo surgery to give him female genitalia. Eventually, the attempt to change his sexuality failed.

He recently killed himself with a shotgun.

Sexuality is not something you choose.
