After securing our coveted BWV reservation for next October:goodvibes, my family now has a few questions...

I know that a few of the Hess Stations are becoming Speedways. Is the one by the Boardwalk still Hess? We have a lot of Speedways up here in Michigan and we have all acquired a lot of SpeedyRewards, enough to get $25-$50 in food/merchandise cards:thumbsup2. In the past, we have ordered our perishable items (milk, cheese, etc) from GardenGrocer. My mother and I used PrimePantry on our most recent trip to Pop Century and we were very impressed with it in terms of cost and effectiveness. We would like to try and use a combination of PrimePantry (for the non-perishables) and the Hess/Speedway for staples like milk, cheese, frozen items (pizza, breakfast sandwiches, etc) since we will have the rewards.

My next question is how easy is it to get to the Hess/Speedway on foot? My dad and I were zooming in on Google Earth and it doesn't look like there is a sidewalk:eek:. Is it OK to walk there? We won't have a car and it seems silly to get an Uber driver to take us across the street:laughing:. We will have 2-3 people and a stroller for the groceries so hauling it back shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the help:wave:.

The Hess stations are now Speedway. You can get there on foot, sidewalks provided. You might want to take a suitcase with wheels to haul your stuff back.

We rent a car for a day from Alamo at the Dolphin, do all of our shopping, eat a meal off-site, pick up anything that we forgot to pack.

Thanks!

It is still so far away yet that we may end up with a rental car on our arrival day. We may fly into Tampa if the times/fares are better which will mean we rent a car to get to WDW. My family (of 4) did just that this past May and it was super easy. We got a one-way rental from Alamo and stopped at Target for groceries. I dropped off the family and groceries at AKV and then returned the car to the CCC. By the time I got back to the resort (via the free shuttle from the CCC), the groceries were all put away and the family was ready to go:D.

I've said this before but I don't find the Hess (now Speedway) worthy of a trip vs buying a few staples at the resort stores. The selections are minimal IMO. At least it sounds like you'll have strollers to push the groceries back because it's a bit of a trek because hauling groceries from the car at BWV is already a bit of a hike. We either bring the dry goods we want and purchase the perishables at the resort store or else have a rental and stop at a full grocery store. A difference could be that you know what a Speedway carries so perhaps it's the same items as they have at home for you and they are exactly what you are looking for.

FYI - at the resort stores ask about the DVC discount or AP if you have it. It's always applied to the food for us.

The biggest reason is that we can use our SpeedyRewards and get close to $50 worth of food for nothing OOP:goodvibes. We'd be looking to get a gallon of milk, a package of cheese slices, 2 dozen eggs and perhaps some frozen pizzas/hot pockets. Most of the Speeddways by us also sell individual pieces of fruit (bananas and apples, specifically) so we may grab a few of those too. I'm not 100% certain (maybe someone can help me out), but if thy accept coupons, we can also get several 12-packs of Coke products using the free ones earned with MyCokeRewards. Since we won't have to actually pay for it, the "hassle" of the "walk-n-haul" is worth it...as long as it isn't raining:umbrella:.

If you are in a studio then your plans make sense. If a 1 bedroom, get a car.

So keep in mind that am completely unaware of what the Speedway rewards can be used for but if possible I'd just use them at home and pocket that money saved and shop for those items at the resort store. :) And I'd bring my preferred apples from home because Red Delicious, which is the prevalent apple sold in convenience stores, is anything but delicious IMO. ;) Just my recommendation!

Basically, we would redeem them for a $25 or $50 Speedway gift card that can only be used on food or merchandise. Since we don't typically buy groceries at the gas station, it would be a better deal for us to use them at WDW.
