He's Gone :(

I just dropped my DH off for deployment # 4 to Iraq . He will be gone 15 months. We just moved to Baumholder, Germany from Texas in March. I think this was the hardest good bye ever. It sure doesn't get easier to say good bye. Wake me up when it's over....I hate being so far way from family, friends and the good old US.

Katie, I can't even express myself properly to you. I am just amazed at how our enlisted men and women and their families continue on with protecting and sacrificing. I am saying prayers for a safe return for him and that these 15 months somehow go fast. I hope you have met some nice people over there who can help you through the next 15 months.

May God watch over your husband, you and all the other soldiers who give so much.

Yes I have met some great friends in such a short time. In fact we are going to Disneyland Paris on Sunday for 5 days.

I just hate the quiet in the house right now...my dog is depressed too!

We're in pre-deployment workup right now, and the house is already quiet. It's after 10:30 PM right now, and DH is still at work...left the house at 5 AM. Luckily, this deployment should only be 7 months - the Army is so harsh on you guys. I'm so sorry you're lonely - deployments suck. Hope you have a good time at DL, and PM me if you need anything or just want to talk!

I've been there... literally and figuratively. My 1st husb was stationed in Baumholder and I lived there from 89-91. 3/4 of our troops deployed during the 1st Gulf war. I still have dreams about Germany. Do you live in housing or on the economy? We lived on the other side of Idar-Oberstein for the 1st year and then in Thallichtenberg for the last 2. I worked at the 30th Field Hospital and at Landstuhl.

I've lost touch with everyone that I knew there, but still remember the friendships fondly. I do not make friends real easily IRL but learned quickly as a military spouse that if you don't make friends, you will sink. There were several of us who became like sisters while the dh's were deployed, and I will never forget any of them.
