He's Gone :(

:grouphug:

Thank you for YOUR service and bless your husband for his.

My almost 90yo grandmother tells stories about my career Navy grandfather's deployments. Four years in Europe, two years in Korea and numerous others. She reminds us she earned every bit of her widow's pension. It isn't easy keeping for home fires burning.

I hope you find the friendships and support you need in Germany.

We're forever grateful for your husbands service! Thank YOU to Katie...I always say...its the wives/mothers/fathers/& other family members who are the HEROES behind the scenes. God bless you Kate. Have a wonderful time in Disneyland!

I can't begin to imagine not seeing my DH for that long :guilty:
There are no words, except "thank you".

I pray the time goes quickly for you and your family.

:grouphug: Thank you both so very much for all that you are giving every one of us.........prayers for a safe and quick 15 months.

 I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. My son is currently deployed in Iraq. Where is your DH heading? What branch is he in and what does he do. Perhaps he and my son will cross paths.

everything is going to be ok :) , it always is

Katie - I can't imagine how hard that must be. Thank you to your DH and your family for this selfless service to our country.

Are you planning at trip home this summer for a while?

I've been there... literally and figuratively. My 1st husb was stationed in Baumholder and I lived there from 89-91. 3/4 of our troops deployed during the 1st Gulf war. I still have dreams about Germany. Do you live in housing or on the economy? We lived on the other side of Idar-Oberstein for the 1st year and then in Thallichtenberg for the last 2. I worked at the 30th Field Hospital and at Landstuhl.

I've lost touch with everyone that I knew there, but still remember the friendships fondly. I do not make friends real easily IRL but learned quickly as a military spouse that if you don't make friends, you will sink. There were several of us who became like sisters while the dh's were deployed, and I will never forget any of them.

Hang in there.

We live in housing, we actually were out in Neubruecke but now live on base in a renovated apt. I have met 2 wonderful friends here and they have been my sounding board. I love visiting Idar Oberstein and shopping!

He is headed into somewhat of a safe zone. I can't say exactly where online for OPSEC reasons. He is the ARMY and has been for 17 years. He is a mechanic for track vehicles. He will not be leaving the FOB which puts my mind a bit at ease.

Thank you!

And thank you all for the kind words, prayers and great thoughts! Today was the hardest and it has to get easier from here. He called so I know he arrived in Kuwait safely and that puts my mind at ease. Let the countdown begin...

Prayers for you and your family.

Friends of our just returned from Iraq. Their unit encountered 20+ IED attacks and everybody came home safe and sound. That was truly a miracle.

I'm glad your husband is in a somewhat safe zone.

You and your husband will be in my prayers. Thank you for all that you both do.
