Hertz Rental Car question

We are renting a minivan from Hertz July 1-9. We went through Priceline.com. When we put in our price, we also put in that we wanted the dealer to be on-site of the airport. However, I understand that Hertz is not exactly on-site. Has anyone rented from Hertz located near MCO? How far is it and are their shuttles to their site quick? I have also heard someone rented through Hertz by MCO and had to wait 2 hours to get their rental! :sad2: Please, if you know anything about Hertz, please respond. Thanks!

Hertz at MCO is a great company to deal with. The shuttles are always waiting outside the terminal and rental lot. It is about a 5 min. ride to the rental lot. I have never had to wait 2 hours and am usually driving away in 10 mins or less.

When you go to leave do curbside checkin and then return the car. Less hassle with the luggage. We have nothing but great experiences with Hertz.

Thanks so much for your quick response. You have made me feel more at ease! :teeth: I have 3 kids (who will not know they are going to WDW until we get on the plane) so they will be anxious to get on with the vacation. I will wipe the worry about waiting 2 hours off my worry list! Thanks! :cool1:

If you luck out there is a great Hertz bus driver. Captain Jack. He tells stories, does some Elvis impersonations and songs. The time will pass very quickly.

I'm really amazed that there was a report of having to wait for 2 hours for Hertz at MCO - I'd find that hard to believe.

But that aside, I don't do Hertz at MCO because they require a shuttle bus ride off airport to get your car. Why bother with this when there are 5 other major companies right there at the airport?

They have a Priceline reservation so they can't change it. I also found Hertz faster than National. That is why I switched.

I know this is an old post but...
We are using hertz and first going to a families house for four days. From there we head to disney. We want to return the rental when we get to Disney(we will use the resort bus transportation) but I am not sure where and how to do that.
Can anyone give me some insight on that?
Thanks!

For openers, the Orlando airport, as do many others all over the country, add tons of junk fees to the price of renting a car, including such nonsense as 'airport concession charge', and too many others to mention.

I don't know if Hertz's off-site location at MCO exonerates you from those fees, but if you're a member of the Auto Club, you'll usually save tons of money with Hertz, as well as the fact that their rental fleets have usually been much nicer at the numerous locations where I've rented from them.

Hertz off site does not get you out of the fees. The fees apply to any rental from the airport or where you take the "shuttle" bus provided by the rental car company from the airport.

IMHO Hertz at MCO is great. Shuttles run continually. Cars are clean I was not overly impressed with my last few National Rentals. (Alamo "service" model is spreading LOL!)

You have a few choices on returning the Hertz rental. One is to return it to MCO and take DME back to your hotel. Second there is a Hertz location in Kissimiee and I believe they will drive you back to WDW. (There is a Hertz at Shades of Green, but last time I checked they would not accept returns of cars not rented there. IT's a franchise with some bizarre rules!!!)

If you do not arrive by plane, in other a walk-in you do not pay the airport concession fee.

For a number of years I would drive my snow-bird aunt to Florida with her car. She would then drop me off at Disney for a week. I would then take mears to MCO, and hertz shuttle to pick up a one way back home.

The first year I paid the airport concession fee. Then I found out when I made the reservation I should check the not arriving by plane box.

By doing that you don't pay the fee.

The Hertz location in Kissimee is located just outside the original gate (the one built in 1971). It is a little beyond Bob Evans restaurant on 192. Yes they will pickup/dropoff on Disney property.

I think FL law actually says it if you "take the bus" Not, if you fly. Basically if you use the airport rental locations they want thier cash!

The risk on your trick is IF the plane is late and you don't show your car could be GONE. Hertz holds for a limited number of hours for walk ins. Hertz holds until the "plane" lands if you have given them a flight number. So in order to "save" you may lose.

Alamo has been among the worst auto rental companies for decades, and that was not a secret within the industry, even in the late eighties when I worked for a competitor.

The selection of cars which Hertz has always had for my money has been the best in the industry; I rented a brand-new Maxima from their O'Hare airport location in 1991, and the almost-new Hyundai Sonata (4500 miles) which I rented last month from their Nashville location were both exceptional automobiles.
