For August 18 to Sept 1 reservations these are the rates I was quoted for an imtermediate car:

National (using priceless coupon) $557.36 after taxes

Hertz (using entertainment book coupon) $462.20 after taxes

Dollar (no coupons) $373.94 after taxes

I'm going to keep these 3 reservations till the last possible moment and keep re-checking the rates. Aside from the obvious choice to pick Dollar because it's the cheapest, which one would you pick, and why?

Is Dollar not in the airport? Do they have shuttles?

Thanks.

Dollar is definately in the airport, just like National, Avis and Budget. You pick up your car right at the terminal. Hertz cars are not at the airport, you will need to take a shuttle.

I use National and Dollar a lot and at that price difference I would definately keep the Dollar reservation. I have had pretty good luck with Dollar. National is nice if you are using QuickRent or Emerald Aisle service because you can pick your own car, but it isn't worth 200.00 more. I haven't used Hertz in years so I have no opinion on them.

We used Dollar on our last trip and had good luck with them. If you sign up for their Fast Lane program (it's free), it will be quicker once you get to the airport.

Will you have another driver? National generally waives the charge for EC members. I'm not sure about the other agencies. I've had good luck with Dollar and National. National (EC) will give you some chance of an upgrade.

I would recommend Hertz. There are nice discounts if you are a AAA member and some other specials.

It is offsite but you can be driving off the lot in less than 10 mins. You never have to wait for a shuttle.

When returning the car stop and do curbside check in with your luggage so you don't have to take it on the shuttle with you.

Actually National relinquished that title and now Alamo is the official car rental company. Of course Alamo and National are owned by the same parent company so it is all in the 'family' :jester:
