I am pricing up car hire for a trip next year and am looking at an Escalade - or maybe a convertible Mustang :)
I see on Quidco that Hertz are offering 33% off for pickups before 31/12/14, as well as 10% cashback - which would be an amazing deal if they are doing the same next year.
Historically do you think they will have the same deal next year and, if so, what are the chances they will be available on the luxury models?

The discount for the US is staggered depending on collection date. It is:
  • 15% - collections 01/09/14 - 30/09/14
  • 20% - collections 01/10/2014- 30/11/2014 (Blackout 21/11-28/11)
  • 25% - 01/12/2014 - 18/12/2014

Valid on all cars except "Collections"

They had the same offer last year as I have booked both this Decembers and last Decembers car in the September Sale.

That's making me think it will be worthwhile waiting until this time next year to book the car then. The worst that will happen is they don't have a sale and we pay the same as we would have done anyway

Is that really a deal that saves money ?

simulations for a fullsize rental, Oct 15 -> Nov 1

Hertz with the deal mentionned in the OP : £346

Alamo with Gold (includes tank of gas and extra drivers) : £402 (if I add $94.50 per additional driver for the rental period, + $60 for the tank of gas to the Hertz quote, to match Alamo Gold, Hertz comes out more expensive)

Alamo with Brits deal : £298

so even with their 20% off (for the period in my simulation) Hertz is £46 more than alamo/brits.

If you are a Hertz gold member you are automatically entitled to have your spouse as an extra driver free.

TBH I booked Hertz despite it being about £30 more expensive as the cars in the fleet are generally nicer and I can go straight to the garage without any fuss. Sometimes its not always about getting the cheapest - quality counts too.

Don't forget that if you did book a convertible mustang, it isn't guaranteed. You will get a convertible mustang "or similar". So if your heart is set on a specific vehicle I would call them to reserve it in advance and turn up at the time you give them so they don't let it go to someone else!
