Hi all, Can I ask if anybody has used HERTZ CAR RENTAL at MCO and would recommend them. Looking at the HERTZ web site they are doing a better offer than USARENTACAR (Who I have used for the last few years and have been quite happy with). Does HERTZ cover everything I would need insurance wise for a UK driver in the US ( as per USARENTACAR ).

If anybody has experience using HERTZ I would value you views.

regards
JR

Used them twice last year and they were fine. The price covers everything you need although there are optional extras assuming you are being quoted in pounds. If it's in dollars, there's a good chance it's a US drivers price who have their own insurance already.

There are a number of additional discounts such as 10% off for using quidco and 10% off for paying by American Express, it's worth checking all the reward schemes you use, Marriott also offer 10% sometimes.

We've used Hertz three times and have booked with them for the fourth time this Easter. Always found them very good.

(Did you use the Hertz web-site without problems because people on here and The Dibb have been getting ridiculous quotes for Hertz at MCO? We had to phone to get a decent price)

Hi, Juliebro, thanks for your views on HERTZ. Yes I did use the Hertz web site with no problems at all. I have made my booking tonight going in via quidco. The site was working fine yesterday also.

I still can't get reasonable prices. Looking for a 7 seater for 1st 2 weeks of our August trip, they are quoting 758.28 GBP, US rentacar/Dollar are cheapest at £422 but that also includes Gold cover, Hertz does not. I am considering booking it and paying £10 extra to allow cancellations in case a better deal pops up.

Hi JR,

Over the last 22-years we have used most of the major US car hire companies either by booking direct (Dollar, Alamo, Budget, etc.) or through a second party like Car Hire 3000, Netflights, etc.

We have normally found that the second party companies offer a better deal and we're surprised to read that you can get a lower quote from Hertz when compared to USRENTACAR.

Inquisitively we tried a few sites and like 'wayneg' (post #6 above) found the lowest price was from USRENTACAR.

But if you do decide to go with Hertz and are in the AA then make sure you can't get a lower quote by going through the AA's web site, they currently offer the following: AA eligible customers save 10% when booking online, plus a FREE additional driver and for a limited time TRIPLE NECTAR POINTS.

Hi Wayne and Samaya. Again thanks for your views.

Just for everyones info, I was getting a great price from Hertz for a 7 seater minivan for 20 days £460 or similiar but my dates are March 2011. I ended up booking a Chevy Tahoe or similiar vehicle for £567. USARENTACAR was £650 for a full size SUV for the same period. Hertz do have an offer on the website at the moment and when I booked it quoted me with 20% off, plus I will get 10% via Quidco.

regards
JR

We were going to book our hire car today with either Alamo (with the Brits Guide discount) or USRentacar, but have just checked Hertz after seeing this and they are cheaper. The only thing is I can't find is what the excess charges are for Alamo and Hertz, and what the extra driver fee is for Hertz. I'll keep looking for that info!

Get a quote on Hertz site, when it gives you list of cars available at the bottom it says "Rental qualifications and requirements" click on that and you get all the T&C's and fees.
We have Hertz #1 Gold card which gives free spouse coverage, got it free via KLM site last year.
Found additional driver details.

Additional Authorized Operators
- Individuals not automatically covered on the Rental Agreement as Authorized Operators noted above may be signed on as an "Additional Authorized Operator" (AAO). AAO's must be present and may be signed on to the rental agreement at the time of rental or during the rental at any US corporate location.
- Renter and each AAO must be present to sign Rental Agreement, present an acceptable credit card or debit card (if renting city accepts debit cards) in their own name, or a current round-trip ticket (air, train or bus), show valid driver's license, and must be a minimum of 21 years of age. For those 21 through 24 the location's age differential will apply.

Additional Authorized Operators Fees
USD 13.00 per day, maximum USD 91.00 per rental, for each Additional Authorized Operator.

Thanks for doing that Wayneg, really appreciate it :goodvibes

That bumps things up quite a bit, however having an extra driver isn't absolutely crucial to us so we may well just use Hertz - I think if we use our AMEX we get even more off, so it may be worth it.

do you know if there is a code that you have to put in to get the Amex 10% off?

1022855 in the CDP box, not that I'm sad and remember! It's rubbish, everything is still mega expensive for me 1750 for 4 weeks SUV for my dates!

just make sure it includes all the insurance - it should list it out at the end when it gives you the final amount...
it should say exactly what's included - such as unlimited mileage, collision damage waiver, etc etc

i just checked alamo - for 2 weeks in august (the two i think we might be there), i was quoted £425 for a 7 seat minivan including all the insurance.

hertz was more than twice that when i tried.
and i don't have to make any sort of deposit with alamo, so i might just go ahead and book it....
if the prices drop later, i can always cancel and rebook..

I am getting similar rate with Dollar on USrentacar but including gold cover(tank of gas & extra drivers) extra £10 making it £433 and you can have cancellation cover upto 24 hours before arriving. I think I might book this today.

I'm only getting the economy car, its coming up at £234, for 17 days, the insurance is called Loss Damage Waiver(LDW) - is the same as the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)?

It's the cheapest I have found so far as everywhere else is coming out at £300 ish.

I have no idea what is going on with Hertz, are you trying 17th April - 4th May? its telling me £956.85 GBP for economy:confused3

no 25th April 17:00 to 12th May 17:00 £234.00

I think that LDW is just the cover for the car and the CDW is the 3rd party insurance which you can't do without.

Getting there, with AMEX code its showing £263.79, still can't get to £234 or is that including cashback?
Crazy how the dates affect the prices with Hertz, 17th Apr at £956 is mad.

Is your ticker wrong then 3 months and 1 day I get to 17th April.:confused3

Hertz include LDW and LIS, on Hertz.co.uk its a fully inclusive cover they provide as far as I know.
