Hershey, PA Flooding

I'm very close to this... VERY close... Yes I'm angry that people think losing 2 bison in what we just when thru in the last week is something to give hershey crap about... I applaud them for only losing 2 bison! I live on a huge mtn so I was not involved with the flooding but for days it was news 24/7 no shows just flooding and where to go, who needs to evacuated, blackhawks helicopters rescuing people.. trucks called out for pumping water out of local towns, some of schools will not reopen for months.. I have no idea what they will do...what about the people who died? that should be news worthy... thousands of people lost everything..

As someone upriver a bit from you, I understand how hard it would be not to have an emotional, passionate response to this. The devastation all around us makes it so hard.

We must be neighbors because I watched as friends/family lost everything the last few days.

One thing, I read on Bloomsburg Fair's FB page that they are having the fair. My thoughts is that to not have it would be devastating financially for the entire area. The fair brings in so much money, not just for the vendors, but for all the surrounding businesses as well.

The rest of us certainly have a right to discuss our feelings on this and question. If it bothers you so much, maybe you should step back now that you have had your say and put things into perspective.

I grew up in NE PA - I have many friends who were affected.

They couldn't get the kids home from schools fast enough and some schools couldn't dismiss because the buses couldn't get to the school. The National Guard trucks that can go through 4 ft. of water couldn't get through to deliver blankets to the schools for the kids that were stranded overnight, so they scrounged what they could from neighbors inside their flooded area. There are still major bridges that are out.

Even though the forecast called for rain and flash flooding, no one expected the river to crest as high as it did. Many places had the flood stage above the '72 flood.

I'm thankful there wasn't more loss of life. Flash floods are SCARY.

Last I saw on blooms fair page was they were looking for people to help starting tomorrow.. and they still weren't sure if they could get it back in time.. maybe I missed an update and I hope they have it! the kids were just asking today when the fair was I told them we might need a boat to go to it... then they asked to go back to knoebles.. now I'm guessing another week and they'll be open.. I hope!

People DIED in HERSHEY! but I'm sure bison are more important to save than people right? Hershey is in Dauphin co... is where my dd#1 was born at Penn St Hospital

Do people out of the area just not understand how bad this flood was?!?! some schools are still closed, roads are gone.. just gone washed away, homes complete homes, washed away never to be seen again and the news is going after Hershey because of a few bison?

I dont think people do, people are really clueless, and extremely clueless about FLASH flooding and the damage it can do so quickly.

Here in the Philly area, our news coverage barely covered it and we are right here!!!!! We do get a Lancaster station so btw that and FB I was updated. The pictures of Hershey Park and the amount of water they took on should tell people that this was no ordinary flood, most of the park was under tons of water.

I think more people were concerned about Wilkes Barre and that area after what happened with Agnes. We had coverage on that and Jim Cantore and the Weather Channel were there. WB had time to evacuate, my ILs and many family live up there. They sent the college kids from Kings College home. They had time to prepare and they got water but it wasnt as bad as anticipated.

Hershey had very little warning, it happened SO fast, there really was no warning.
