Hershey Christmas Candylane for 12-13yr.old?

It's my dd's 13th birthday early Nov. I wanted to do something nice since this has been a rough year sick family and financial. So I have enough points for a free room or two at Sheraton hotels. She mentioned Hershey. It opens Nov.19 for Christmas Candylane.

I know there are no coasters, but is it too babyish for 6 girls around 12yr old, dd is the oldest turning 13? Is it unbearably cold?

Can't think of anywhere else that might be interesting, except maybe a night in NYC but it's so expensive to do anything there.

Hershey has the free continental breakfast and the park only costs $11 pp.

My apt. is too small for anything at home.

I have never been to it but it does sound a little young for a 13 year old. However, why not find a local Sheraton and stay overnight for a sleepover party. You can bring in pizza and get nail polish, make up, etc. for a do it yourself spa party.

My daughter is 12 and I would say yes they are too big for it. We took my girls when they were smaller. I like the other idea about spending a night at the hotel. The girls would love that. Especially if there is an indoor pool. Also, if you are close to Hershey, the have the lights thing that you can drive through. Movie theaters, bowling alleys, roller skating - all good things for girls that age too. Good luck!

I'm a season tick holder and a local. We enjoy Xmas Candylane at Hershey, but all 12/13 year olds are different. Some would love the park and the free admission to Zoo America that comes with it, some are bored stiff. As for the temp, who knows. You are from Long Island. We have about the same weather as you. Nov 19 might be 10 degrees and snow, might be 65 degrees and sunglasses. Maybe you can pull together quicker and come for HersheyPark in the Dark in October. $26 per person, coasters are all open, free Zoo America, get in night previous for 2 hours Free, and discounts available at local Giant Food Stores (I think).

Thanks for quick responses. I'm not able to get there for October, I work most weekends and would have to take time off.

So 3 out of 3 think it's too young, I better start thinking of something else. It is a 3 1/2 hour ride, so I hate to waste that time.

I'd love more input. Maybe you could tell me what the older ones (12/13yr olds) like or didn't like.

we have been a few times , my kids are younger though, but I think your girls could have fun with it.
It was COLD the times we went, bitter bitter cold. and we are new englanders used to that, but man it was cold.
but we had a great time.

I got it! I found a beautiful Sheraton within 2 blocks of Bryant Park in NYC. It's close driving for me. I'll offer ice skating 12$)and window shopping at Bryant park in the morning. Pizza for Sat. dinner or something not too expensive. I'll bring breakfast stuff and buy somekind of quick lunch. Bring Girlie stuff rent a movie on PPV and that's that. Thank you. I just needed to brainstorm a bit.

That sounds fun! Since it's a sleepover, you might want to consider getting fabric markers (and maybe some stencils) and letting the girls decorate their own pillowcases as a craft project.

That will be fun for them - the holiday market with the ice skating at Bryant Park is great. There are tons of food vendors and casual eating nearby for daytime stuff - pret a manger, cosi, wichcraft, delis, etc and the actual food vendors at the holiday market is good - they have a max brenner booth that has their delicious hot chocolate (it's a little expensive). I work right by there.

For another "special" place to eat, there is a Sarabeth's right by Central Park (near the Plaza) and one close to Bryant Park inside Lord and Taylor at 38th and 5th. Brunch type entrees don't usually run more than $15 per person.

For pizza, you might look into Patsy's (around 37th and 3rd), John's Pizza (times square area), and you might also look into Rare (fancy burger place, but a regular burger is 9 dollars and you can get a huge basket of 3 types of fries for 10 that will feed 5-6 people). I live and work near there so let me know if you need any other info.

We took the boys many times to Hershey and it was great...sometimes freezing, snowing, warm...you just never knew. The last time we were there they were 7 and 9 and kept looking at all the rides that were closed. We knew it was over...Boo Hoo!

The girls will love NYC. Window shopping, Christmas tree, etc. I agree about pizza. If it is not too cold you could take the subway to Grimaldi's in Brooklyn and walk back across the Brooklyn Bridge. Again, if not too cold you can go on the Staten Island ferry for FREE!
The girls may like the Sony Wonder Lab. It is free but you need to make a reservation.
The Bronz Zoo also does some special things at Christmas time.

There is so much to to in New York....Have fun!

I haven't been in a while but thank you for the other responses.
I'll check out Sarabeth's. I was thinking of Johns Pizza we've been there a few times and it's reasonable if I stick to pizza.

My original hotel was not in area I loved so I got the Manhatten at Times Square, it was a Sheraton we stayed there 2 years ago while we lived in Florida. Not the greatest but good enough. Hotel is on 7th Ave and 51st.

I was thinking If it's raining out I was going to check out the Zeigfeld theatre never actually been there but looks different and Harry Potter is opening that weekend so may be playing there (no schedule on site yet). I'll check out Sony Wonder Lab too.
We love the walk on Brooklyn bridge we've done that pretty often and enjoy it. But I fear the weather and I would have to pay for a cab/subway/transportation for all of us.
I hope it's nice out because I know they will love Bryant Park shopping and skating. My dd was there last year with family and enjoyed it.

I would love other indoor ideas in case of bad weather near 7th and 51. Also any other breakfast ideas for Sunday morning. I was going to bring stuff to the room but maybe going out would be nice. I know the Star Dust diner is @ the block and breakfast seems reasonable. Been there for dinner once. All the girls were there with the girl scouts.

I looked up Sony that looks cool. If the weather looks bad 7 days out I'm going to make reservations.

I've never been to topof the rock anyone know if it's outdoors or in doors.

I have passes to the Met but most of the girls wouldn't be into it.
