Hersey park camping resort

Ok , so we went to hersey park after it opened. We stayed at Hershey park camping resort. I will start off by saying this place is nothing like the fort. Closest sites I ever camped on. Good thing I only had a neibour for one night. The workers at the campground were nice and accommodating, but covaid made a lot of the stuff worse. Pool was ok and not crowded. Bathrooms clean and decent. Campground wasn't particularly manicured. This could be because of then just opening the parks. But the campgeound was open before that, weeds and trash were in my fire ring. Not that i would use it because it was right against the cars. Lol.
Now the park, they took temperatures and asked questions. It wasnt busy or crowded but everything was haphazardly done. Rides were closed, lack of people lead to lack of staff. The staff they did have were new and really unhelpful but pleasent. As an example, when getting a drink refill in there cup at a reduced rate because i bought the cup they day before, the girl of 17 or so asked me why the price was set like that, and i had to explane the hersey policy to her. In the end she gave up and gave me the drink for free, because she wasnt trained on that. No maps, and there ride ap didnt work. So we could barly find our way around to get to a ride that said was open, and we got there and it wasnt. Water slides were closed due to covid. Even though it is destoyed by the chlorine. Some rides were vigorously disinfected, and others had used masks in them from the day before. Everyone wore masks, well at the start of the day. Once tempatures went into the 90s and the heat and walking got to us, they were moatly around everyones neck. So. To sum up camping resort( it was far from that) 3 of 5 stars. Park itself 4 of 5 stars. We did get to ride the bigger rides with minimun wait times, if they were open! The park was immaculately clean. Staff was new, like still being trained new. And the covaid policies were i consistent, if not irratating. They had blocked off the wave pool so you had to walk 2x as far to enter into a turnstile. The same could have been achived by placing the turnstiles at the entrance, but what do i know about about this ,lol. They really had no one coordinate this stuff. 20200710_204208.jpg20200707_200658.jpg20200707_195447.jpg20200707_195452.jpg20200707_200836.jpg

Uhhh... cozy...

I think it looks like some of the sites are better than others with spacing, but that section of light blue ones on the 3 or 4 rows on the map look super squished in any pictures I see as well as on google maps...

Wow, those sites are really close to each other!

Thanks for the review. :-)

Boyd's Campground in Key West, FL city limits (on Stock Island) could put 3-4 campsites in that space, Tallis.

Not sure there is any difference, :scratchin though, between Pennsylvania and the Florida Keys.

PS - I'm half expecting to watch Shoeless Joe Jackson and friends ("Field of Dreams" movie) walk out of the cornfield at dusk though in Sjm9911's pix, honestly....

We stayed there back in June and you are right, the sites are very close to each other. We did not mind as at the time we never had neighbor. The corn was less than knee high when we were there. It grows pretty fast now, the fire ring when we got there was against a tree, and thats when we realized everyone moved them to whatever was convenient for their site.

I will say that with a 40' rig their "65' long" site they claimed we had was more like 49 foot as we had to park the truck sideways and barely off the road.

Due to the low volume of people it was nice. We had no intention of going into the park then, we just needed a weekend out of the house.

SJM thanks for the preview. The BEACH BOYS are playing in Wilkes Barre and then Hershey PA in early April next Year and I want to see them again. Both arena's tell me it "should" be the A show. Looked at Hershey Park as a potential place to stay overnight planning to see what PA Hunter can to the mix in the AM

Well there are a few places to stay. Best bang for the buck I would recommend staying at the KOA at exit 90, which is listed as Jonestown, Hershey North. Small campground, but we stay there at least once a year, nice trail out the back to hike, walk the dog, etc. Nice small shop with ice cream, and food. The Wilkes Barre arena is exit 164. The other option for Wiles Barre, would be to "dry camp for the evening" at the Casino if they allow it. Mohegon Sun casino is just a hop skip and a jump up the road from the arena. If we do not move, you would be more than welcome to hook up here, we are still 40 mins from Hershey, but I have 50 amp service and running water. We also have a private bathroom in the garage, that one would have access to.

We have been to the Hershey Park Camping Resort a few times over the years, but I would not choose it if I were going to Hershey. It is no Fort! The past couple times we went there, not to Hershey Park - just the Hershey area, we stayed at the Hershey Roads Campground, Elizabethtown, PA. Take a look, it’s nice. Under new ownership (people that own it now own Artillery Ridge Campground in Gettysburg). We were the first ones to swim in the pool last September lol, and we were just there for Father’s Day weekend this year. Don’t know how crowded it will feel when it’s full ( they are in process of putting bunch of new sites in) because it hasn’t been when we have been there, But they have new pool, new bathhouse, new store, fixed up the mini golf, and staff is friendly!

The last time I was at Hershey it would for the day a couple of years back. We just drove out and back in a day went down to 2017 during the summer. We met up with some friends who came down from Canada for the week. So a few of us from Northeast came out to meet up with them and everyone else. We did the camping show in 2017 for the day. Met up with PaHunter and his wife working a booth. Looked at a few trailers. Headed home. Last time I think we camped out there was 2016 for a few nights. We were in the sites above the pool area. I remember we were on a hill. It was tight getting our at the time 30 footer into the space. The sewer pipe was too high and maintenance came out to cut it down for us. The guy even mentioned to us that it needed it should have been lowered before anyone was in the site. The train would pass by a few times a day. That same train track passes by one of the customers down the road in Hummelstown. However since it was really hot we got to use the pool a few times during that trip of 4 days. It was not too bad.
