Its best to get it taken care of so there is no chance of it getting strangulated or incarcerated.
My experience is not typical. In fact I am possibly facing another surgery next month. I am the classic patient that if things can go wrong they do.
Laprascopic is better. I have also had an open repair in the past. It was really painful for me. (laprascopically) I think I spent about 3 days in the hospital and lots of pain killers. Everyone reacts differently though.
Ask your surgeon what procedure they are doing on you, what type of mesh they are using if they are going that route.
I always have the strange side effects, pain which is strange lately., staph infection, that was with one of the repairs, and now with this one the surgeon thinks one of the anchor stitches might be infected or has come undone etc. I am wondering if he will do a cat scan again. I really dont want one. I had way too many last year because of cancer that had nothing to do with my hernia. Also another side effect is that you could develop a seroma in the future. I am dealing with that one too right now.
Dont do any lifting etc. for a long while.Dont try to reach for things etc. Just take it easy. I think I had the last one in October and my dh was pushing me around in the wheelchair at Disney last december. I was taking it easy. If you go to disney I wouldnt recommend any rough rides. I think I am pushing it just going on the AK Safari.
I really dont mean to scare you, I just want to cover al the bases.
Wishing you all the best.
