I've been reading the boards for over a year. I believe I have gained enough knowledge to make this statement.
Those who get DVC, or AP's, it seems to me have been getting the shaft.
The people on this site who have thousands of posts, and been here a long time seem to get no PIN's from WDW. Its my theory that WDW figures these folks have been reeled in and they no longer need to work hard for their dollars.
Well, its my plan to tease WDW to death in order to get my PIN's! Its not like I can afford to lock into a DVC, or go enough to warrant AP anyway.
Seems like if I go every other year or so, they send me e-mails and post cards with seriously good discounts. So there! Take that PIN fairies!
Now I'm gonna duck under my desk before lightning strikes.

I have received a handful of PINs since I bought an AP. Sadly, I have not been able to use them and I probably just jinxed myself by saying it.

We go every year and for the last two years, I've gotten a pin that's actually for a time when I can use it. Before that, I got them for dates in the fall when I couldn't go.

Good luck, though! I hope you get a pin for a time frame that works for you.

After I had booked and paid for my vacation on the timeframe of the PIN.

Just my luck.

Is Disney so all knowing that they have our #of posts linked to our addresses in their computer? Some how I imagine the two aren't related.

This is not rocket science. PINS are offered to get people to come that might not normally come. There are of course exception where frequent visitors might get one. But Disney marketing tracks everything about your past visits, how often, what you paid, where you stayed, etc., so they can determine whether you are a person that should be offered an additional enticement to come. It certainly is not related to posting on any message boards.

But good luck with your strategy - I hope you get a PIN. In the meantime, I'll be enjoying my trips with my AP and DVC.

did you not call and ask that the discount be applied to your reservation?! if not, it may not be too late... it's worth it! just think of all you could do w/that "refund!" :)

I am lucky enough (currently) to go to WDW every year, and WDW send me PIN's all the time. I must have gotten 5 this year already! So I really believe there is no science to it!

Well, good luck with your plan. I've tried every single piece of advice I found here on the DIS and come up completely empty. Used the email on file with Disney, gotten a new one and made up a new id. Saved itineraries, ordered DVD's, ............ you name it I've tried it.

And nothing. Not a single PIN. Every. Don't even know what they look like. I just figure I'm on the master "NO PIN" list and moved on.

OK..... so maybe I haven't really moved on....... :rotfl2:

So while this might be true today, a few years ago APs were the way to go just for the room discounts alone. Now that has changed which makes me sad =/

Never have gotten a PIN but my mother in-law gets them all the time and she hasn't gone in years.

So the best advice would be to not go to Disney for years....... Hmmmmm...... I'm gonna have to think on that one.........

Ditto. I've never gotten a PIN either.

For our next trip, we're staying off-site which is saving us big $$$. Take that, PIN fairies!

:lmao:
Sometimes you just gotta laugh at yourself!

When you say "winning" strayegy...is that the Charlie Sheen kind of "winning"?

;)

Keep us posted on how it works out for you. I actually got more PINs when I was an AP holder than I do now.

I once received a snail mail pin posted to a previous owner of my house. I've been the owner of my house for 10+ years.

Same here. We leave Saturday (4 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), and I have looked all over for how to get a pin. We are saving money by staying offsite and bringing a lot of our own food. Didn't need a pin for those, but I sure would have loved to stay at a Disney resort and have the dining plan. . .

Just curious, having never received a pin, are there any that are better than 42% off a deluxe?

We're DVC and AP's and we get pins and emails several times a year. We don't use them since we have DVC and AP's, but we get them. I'm sure there is some marketing strategy to it, but with SO many people in the database and the database being update with correct info only sporadically - you aren't ruled out for being on an AP list or DVC member.

We've had APs for the better part of the last 7 years and we rarely stay onsite. You would think Disney would try to convince us that onsite is better, but we've gotten only one pin in that time frame.
