Here we go AGAIN, Yankee fans!

John Sterling cracks me up-

Raul see ya later- Raul so cool!

WOW! What a game! Let's wrap it up tonight! So is it going to be Hughes? They were throwing around CC If they lost last night - now that they won.......

I am on the hunt for Raul so cool shirts today! Gotta go to Mo's!

DH and DS were at the game. Wow! Ibanez!!! Can you imagine the noise?:rotfl:

Ibanez is the MAN right now. It's good to see one of the lower rung players saving the Yanks butts right now. It's not the million dollar guys getting the clutch hits.

Ugh! If Ibanez pays tonight, I think I'd intentionally walk him every at-bat (unless the bases were loaded!).

Oh well, it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings, and I haven't sung yet!

....Hughes is pitching tonight....and Bernie Williams is throwing in the first pitch...

....Bernie go BOOM!!!

Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for the IRS during an audit or for Cancer to take out your whole family. They single-handedly ruined the economics of baseball. They are why it costs more than the GNP of Belize to take a family of 4 to a game.

...They single-handedly ruined the economics of baseball. They are why it costs more than the GNP of Belize to take a family of 4 to a game.

...uhhhhh, I'm afraid that you are a bit misinformed....first of all, they did NOT single-handedly 'ruin' the economics of baseball - 'economics' ruined the economics of baseball. What you fail to realize is, at the time when Steinbrenner came into the picture, baseball was quickly losing its luster as "America's Pastime", and he single-handedly rejuvenated an almost-comatose industry. Second, f you go to most baseball stadiums, other than most of the big-market areas, like Boston, Philly, and NYC, their tix are reasonably priced....

That's pretty much it. They buy championships. It really takes no guts to root for them....

...wow, that's kind of HARSH, considering you DON'T EVEN KNOW ME....and they don't 'buy' championships, no more so than any other team or any other sport. When has the Dallas Cowboys enjoyed their last Superbowl victory? How about the Miami Heat? Did they win the first year they had their 'Dream Team'??

FOR ANY FUTURE POSTERS OF THIS THREAD:

....this thread was merely started to congratulate the win of a local NYC team, not meant to be a place of heated debate. You root for who YOU want, and I'll root for MY favorite team - nothing more, nothing less. I don't evn mind harmless ribbing or rooting for YOUR favorite team right here on this very 'unoffical' Yankees thread. If you cannot follow that simple guideline, by all means, start a thread of your own.

....okay, vent over.....

Uhhhhh, I'm afraid that I've worked in the baseball industry for about 25 years, so I'm not misinformed. Baseball was losing it's luster in NY because the Yanks sucked so hard until he opened up his checkbook and overspent for Dave Winfield (among others). Winfield was the first $3m/yr man. It didn't stop there. Look at any study on the exponential growth of baseball salaries from 1980 to today and see where it all started. And I don't know what parks you're talking about, but to take a family of 4 to a game in Seattle (which certainly isn't a big market), you will spend about $500 when all is said and done for 1 game. Hardly a bargain.

Baseball is no longer "America's pastime." That is now football, which is also expensive to go watch. But you can almost forgive them, as they only have 8 home games to make their money.

You Yanks fans are so touchy. Seriously. I know a few. They all are defensive.

Congrats on winning the game last night. But with your payroll, your team should never lose.

....somehow I doubt if there are any baseball players that will fault Steinbrenner. In fact, many probably will PRAISE him for his ground-breaking influence on free agancy...

....let's face it - Steinbrenner was a shrewd businessman, plain-and-simple.

[BTW ~ Steinbrenner signed Dave Winfield to a 10-year, $23 million contract in 1985; Reggie Jackson got the $3 mil deal.....]

"...The average price of a ticket for a Red Sox home game is $151.10, according to Chris Matcovich at ticket aggregator TiqIQ.com. The company both collects and analyzes data about tickets being sold on the secondary market....After the Red Sox, the teams starting the 2012 baseball season with the highest average home ticket prices are the Chicago Cubs ($108.70), the Philadelphia Phillies, ($100.71), the New York Yankees ($90.21) and the Washington Nationals ($88.24). On the flipside, you can score the cheapest tickets (all about $50 on average – meaning there are plenty of cheaper seats) if you go to home games of the Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds...."

....again, all I ask is that you refrain from bashing a team and/or DIS member - there's enough negativity elsewhere, and it has no place here.
