This is mainly a rant, folks, so you've been warned lol!
We live just outside New Orleans, and are scheduled to fly out on Sat for our yearly WDW vacay. Yet again, we are holding our breath to see if a hurricane is gonna rock our world. Twice now, we've had to evacuate a few days early and leave from my parents house in Tuscaloosa (about 45 min SW of Birmingham). And two other times, it was a very close call as to whether we'd have to evacuate right before. Obviously, the big deal isn't Disney World, but that everyone stays safe. It's just really frustrating this year for several reasons:
First, we're flying for the first time. Our youngest is finally old enough that we don't have to pack half the house, so we're really excited about flying and arriving in a couple of hours rather than 10. But if this storm is bad enough, I'm concerned that our flight will be affected. Just don't even want to go there
.
Second, I'm just so tired of these storms--evacuating, all the garbage that goes with it. We were displaced for a month after Katrina, and life wasn't the same for a very long time. Thankfully, we safely evacuated and didn't really have a lot of property damage to deal with (we built on high ground). So many had it so much worse. It's just knowing that your entire life is going to be skewed for who knows how long.
We're planning to ride this one out. We have a generator, gasoline, window units, plenty of food/water. I'm confident we can weather a Cat 2, even a Cat 3 (although if it strengthens to a 3, we'll most likely evac). We have a lot of pets and it boggles my mind to think of how we'd manage to evac with them all lol.
Anyway, at this point, we are all so ready to fly out of here to our happy place. But we have to weather a big frickin' storm first
