Here now...

Oh my word that is just laughable. The faces in that picture. So ridiculous. I can't believe you had to wait in those lines 3 times. It sounds WAY worse than summer crowds. And you know I am going on a day the park opens at 10am. I don't want an hr of my 10 hr day wasted.
Again I have a 1 day pass and need no picture. I should have to wait in their crappy photo line. it's that simple.
Yes you should send that in. as I mentioned I worked as a manager at a waterpark for 15 yrs, if we had lines or people waiting like that we opened more lines. It just wouldn't have been ok.

How does a company that specializes in crowd control/moving large numbers of people come up with this as their process? That is just baffling.

I understand the problem, and maybe their solution is a good one. But the execution sounds absolutely terrible.

No law. Many other parks in CA use the fingerprint scanners (I've encountered them at Sea World and at least one other park but I can't remember where).

I believe WDW is in the process of testing and implementing a new ticketing system based on RFID bracelets. My guess is that Disney is not putting in fingerprint scanners at DLR because they are going to implement the new system (MyMagic?) as well. So it's not worth it to install the fingerprint scanners for a relatively short time.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

That makes sense, but I also have to wonder why they decided to inconvenience guests and CM for a relatively short time. I'm sure the business of renting tickets has been going on for a while. If RFID is in the near future, why do this now?

Just hearing of all this. Oh my. This can't be pretty. I'll be there in May, fingers crossed this is either gone or better done.

We will arrive on a Sunday afternoon with the printout voucher for the 5-day PH that we bought online. Will we take our pictures/signatures/etc. at the ticket booth or in the line?

Even if we make it there early one morning with everything ready, it's still no guarantee if we get stuck behind people who don't have everything already taken care of, right?

We will be using MM every morning of our trip. What hints/tips do you have to help me not be in a regular entry line wasting time? I hope that being there 30 minutes before MM hours will make it easier to figure out which line I'm supposed to be in, but at this point, I am just not sure.

So how early should we arrive at the gates for our early entry day for DL if we want to be very near the front of a line? It will be Sat. March 9th.

lsulindy, thanks for your report! It's rare that someone types up a complete picture of what the process really is like. I would send the report to Disney letting them know your experience with the new system. Don't expect anything for fear of other DISers who might think you have a sense of "entitlement" (I love you DISboards!!):lmao:

The only reason why I would ask you to send the report is to show that there's a lot of guests who are really inconvenienced by this new system.

One of the biggest issues (besides the wait) is that CM's are treating guests like they are stupid. We had two day park hopper passes, which do not need pictures taken, and by the second time we entered the park, we were aware of their new system so when we approached the CM with the camera, we told her that we had two day tickets and she said she needed to see them anyway just in case they were not two day tickets. This of course, holds up the line. Wouldn't we have been 'caught' by the CM scanning the tickets if we had been clueless? The CM's are standing close to one another; its not like they can't hear what is happening. Once we gave the CM the ticket, she said, "Oh, you are right, you don't need your pictures taken." Well duh, that is precisely what we told you which of course I did not say outloud.

Yikes lsulindy!!

We were there Presidents Day week and decided to skip out Thursday Magic Morning. I am glad we did now!!

Our biggest "glitch" is that they showed DH as already using his park hopper ticket 3 times, when he had only used it twice. He had to wait at the other side of the gate while the figured out things. It seems like every trip he has this issue on our last day. He was issued a 1-day park hopper and entry to the park.

DH thought the CM was going to get in a fight with the person in back of him though. Apparently the grandmother signed the child's ticket and the child signed the grandmother's ticket and there was a big hot mess. DH thought the guy holding the tickets (not a CM - a member of the gm and child's party) was going to come to blows with the CM over the issue. They are definitely cracking down on things at the gate.

On our Thursday MM, we got to the gate at 8:45p and it was a hot mess (MM opened at 8am) of people. I was hoping that maybe out MM - even thought we were late for it - would allow us to enter the parks before everyone else. Glad I didn't count on it.

We had 7 people (6 ticketed plus a two year old in a stroller). We had our at home printed tickets in hand. There was a CM working the gate and another CM with the camera phone in front of the gate. We were a few people back in line and I motioned to the camera CM that we had new, print-at-home tickets. Thinking he could come do our pics while the people ahead of us went through. He said that the CM working the gate will check to see if we need pics. I'm thinking "I'm holding printed 5 day tickets. It's obvious we need pics." So, we get up to the gate CM and she scans the first ticket and then looks at the front CM and says "Oooh, they're going to need pics?" He says "They do? Really?" She says "Yes" He says "Oh ok, I guess you do need pictures." I'm like "Yes, we sure do"

So, I had purchased 4 of the tickets with my credit card. They print my ticket first b/c my name was on the order and my name automatically printed on my ticket, then I go through the gate (I went through the swing open gate rather than the turnstile b/c I'm pushing ds) I stand on the inside of the swing open gate while the photo CM stands on the outside and takes my pic and scans the ticket. Then, he gives the ticket back to the gate CM and she scans it for entry. Then they ask DH for his license. He shows his license and then they ask him to spell his name out loud. He spells it twice, she repeats. Finally they print his ticket. He goes through the turnstile, then around the turnstile to stand behind the swing open gate where the camera CM takes his pick from the other side of the gate, then the camera CM gives his ticket back to the main CM who scans it. He then stands there and spells my daughter's name twice, CM repeats, once they have her name, they print her ticket, she goes through the turnstile, around by the gate and takes her picture, gives ticket back to be scanned, and again for my son.

Here's a pic I snapped when DH is spelling DD's name. This is our whole group's first time ever in Disneyland, we had just been singing and dancing on our walk in. Look at everyone's faces... You can kind of see the camera CM behind the gate CM.

So our crew is through, and DH is complaining to me about what a ridiculous system they have. We've moved a little bit away so as not to clog the walkway while we wait for my parents. And we realize that something is not right. My mom is on her scooter, so my dad had handed the CM their tickets. I have a credit card of my parents issued to me in my name. I was supposed to use this card to buy their tickets. However, I'd read here that the credit card name is printed on one ticket. So, I called my mom to find out exactly how her name read on her card and put her name on the order instead of mine. Well, since my dad handed them the tickets, they gave him her ticket and took his pic for it. So, he had to wait for a manager to come over and reissue his ticket with his name. All this time everyone who was in our line, AP, people with 1 day tickets, people who'd already had their picture taken, etc had to wait.

That was Saturday evening. Sunday we sight-see in LA. Monday we head to DCA for rope drop. We get to the front of the line, hand our tickets over to the turnstile CM, and she hands ticket to photo CM and says "Looks like it's these guys first time in the parks! They need their photos taken!" So, DH says no, we took photos Saturday, and she says "Well it looks like you need them again!" Everyone had to retake their pics except for my dad, somehow his reissued ticket had his pic. So, we've already used a day off of our ticket, we already have our names printed on them, but the CM didn't realize that we'd already been in the parks. And, then just reattached new pics to the tickets without doing any verification. DH's ticket could have said Marty McFly and she'd just have taken his pic and let us go on our way. I know a fraudster can't count on that glitch, but we could have rented/borrowed/stolen anyone's tickets and gotten in that day. We were never again asked for ID after the first day.

Once again, people behind us who were APs or had already taken pics had to wait through the whole thing.

Then Tuesday right as MM is starting (we were a little later than we wanted to be that day), we walk up to lines crossing the plaza. The DL lines were butting into the DCA lines (which were very small b/c DCA wasn't opening for another hour). I walk up to a CM at a exit only gate to the side before we enter the crowds with our crew and ask her which line we should be in for MM. She says "Hmmm... I think Magic Morning is 2 or maybe it's 16. Um yeah. 2 or 16." So, DH takes off into the crowd to go look at the signs at the gate. (there were signs above the gates, but the lines were so long that you couldn't see them from the end of the line) He comes back and says this line had a Magic Morning sign and we should get in that one. (I think it was 22) Once we get in line, there are irate people everywhere. All had stories of waiting in the wrong line when that's the line a CM had told them they should be in. Well, the line is moving, but it is SLOW. At one point a CM passes by and the man behind us asks "I've changed lines 3 times already, is this the line for Magic Morning" Response "You know that is a good question... I'm not sure about that." DH goes to the front to see what's going on and comes back, says that most people in the line do not have Magic Morning, so we're standing there waiting while they argue with CMs b/c they can't get in. We had been the only moving line, but barely moving. Two CMs start coming through the line and we see them forming another line to the side of us. When they get to us, we see that they're trying to sort out the people in the line who don't have MM and forming another line of those people. So, the line is still crawling, but we're much closer to the gate. Meanwhile, there's this random line on the side of us and people who are just getting to the plaza are very confused and have no idea where to go or even how to get there through the sea of lines. Well, all of a sudden all the other lines start moving quickly through the gates and we're still crawling. I guess they started letting in the regular entry guests at this time. We finally make it through the gates 45 minutes after getting in line, and 45 minutes into our "Magic Morning"

On Wednesday, we didn't have problems but our line was moving very slowly. The line next to us started flying, and we realized that our section had 2 lines, one for each turnstile, but the line next to us had one line that was feeding two turnstiles. The tall gate was closed as if the second turnstile wasn't open, but a CM was working it and pulling from the other turnstile's line. Our CM was also taking a very long time studying peoples faces and pics. It took us about 20 minutes to get in. Probably wouldn't have been a big deal, except we'd already really soured to the process.

This was 2 weeks ago. Things might have changed, but it seems the process was less efficient for us than it was when they first started doing pics in January rather than more. I was thinking that when we got there, they'd have smoothed out the process, but that wasn't the case.

This is just awful. All of this screams cheap amausent park to me not Disney. Soo not looking forward to this. If all my magic mornings are wasted you can bet I will raise a stink. That's the only reason we stay on site. Although I'm sure as I've heard from others here they will say sorry for your troubles and move along .

This sounds like such a nightmare. If we weren't going to be in LA for something else I would cancel our trip to DL. Not worth it.

I hope people send in complaints to DL -- they need to know that their guests are no ok with this or will continue forever.

That picture is so sad :(

I guess I'm glad it's just me and DH this trip. We'll get annoyed but we won't have kids who are super displaced for a long time. So much for magic morning. I probably won't even bother trying to get in for it.

I just spoke with a CM at WDTC and she assured me that there is a seperate line if youve had your photos taken already or are more than a 3 day with photo and have had your photo taken.......sounds conflicting to what Ive been reading here for months. I sure hope they record their calls!! Because im writing down the day and time I called her and will take note if that is not the case when we are there. Dont get peoples hopes up by lying...this is after I threatened to cancel my 5 night GCH stay! Im hoping for the best as were doing a half day our first day and well all have our photos taken care of etc!! So at least on our magic morning we wont be holding up the line. Guess DH will be grabbing his coffee and heading downstairs quite early....but I also dont want to be those people whose whole family joins someone in line after 45 min of thinking they were in a short line!!

I agree! The whole reason we stay on site, especially this trip around, is for the convenience and the Disney magic of it all. This will be our first trip to DL and we plan on getting up super early for MMs... Not good Disney if your guests days start out on a sour note, especially when they make the effort to get up early on their vacation and take advantage of the 'perk' of staying on-site only to have to stand in line for 45+ mins?!! (Is there a FP for this?! LOL!):)

We made the mistake of going to a lesser amusement park a couple of years ago...long, LONG lines to get in (even with pre-purchased tickets), rude employees, dirty park, etc. Disney- these are the reasons people love you guys- to AVOID all that nastiness. We've been to DW numerous times without a hitch ever getting through the gates. The only "hitch" is when I am looking through my bag for the tissues because I'm already crying when that magic moment happens when you see the castle- gets me every time.

Thanks everyone for the updates- I will go ahead and let my family know that a long wait could be a possibility due to this. My husband is active duty military. We have all been just recently reunited after our longest separation yet-over 16 months. This is our first family trip together since we've reunited. We have dealt with selling our house, moving, and re-integrating all over Christmas, nonetheless...and have been SOOO looking forward to this vacation together to celebrate and would hate for it to start out dealing with angry people in line!!

For those who have experienced it- PLEASE, please write/call Disney and let them know!

My thoughts are they BETTER figure this out because this is ANNOYING everyone.

Even though I have AP's, we are waiting just like everyone else. AP holders are not getting any special treatment at all and they shouldn't but it is ANNOYING to have to continually show your AP or ticket to about 5 CM's before even getting to the turnstyle. This new procedure is making it very UNmagical.

BUT people as I said UPTHREAD … too many IDIOTS (oh I meant to say guests) were trying to pass MORE people through the turnstyles who had NOT PAID for a ticket.

An idiot would come to the Parks with 6 people. They would buy 1 or 2 tickets. And then go in and out the turnstile until all 6 were in with only paying for 2 tickets. The scanning the CM's were doing were to make sure the ticket was pif and not expired.

Soooooo DL/DCA had to change things up.

Hence the DELAYS.

So before you go throwing DL/DCA under the bus for all this … it really is all due to some disturbing behavior of idiots. ::yes::

A secret if you are going to DCA …

Go through the GC. Those lines move with lightening speed.

Of course you can't axcess DL from there but it will make you get into DCA allot quicker.

:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

We will be staying at GCH... so hope to take advantage of that. However, this begs me to ask- are they allowing anyone to go through that entry? Seems this perk should be reserved for hotel guests only. (Also, I'd read that some people said previously that going through the GCH entrance in the mornings wasn't necessarily faster and that the main entrance itself instead was the better gate.)

ANYONE AND ANYBODY can through the GCH any time at all!!!!! :thumbsup2

I don't think it would be considered special treatment to have an AP's only line- seems that would be efficient. You could use the line if everyone in your party has AP's. It would benefit both AP holders and non-holders. Being able to go to the ticket booth the night before you want entry to get picture and ticket signed would be efficient, as it would allow those who come into town a day before they hit the parks to take care of business.

It just seems so extremely inefficient right now- like seriously a third grader couldn't develop a better system?

I don't get this. There still has to be one ticket for everyone entering the park right? Were they passing the tickets back or something?

Yep as usual a few stupid people ruin in it for the rest....

I thought the main reason this new photo taking was being done is to discourage people from selling end days off their multiple day passes - to make sure that whoever uses a multiple day ticket on day 1 uses it each and every time thereafter? :confused3
