Here now, the magics gone because of FP+

My grandmother used to say "can I have it all"? When we asked for more pancakes before there was a WDW and the country was a different place. The poster used several condescending remarks.ie 'You've got to be kidding' "I'm done" basically saying "THIS SUCKS" Sorry i don't believe doing all that by noon when the old fast pass system had a two hour window and depending on how busy the parks are..etc… she seems grumpy to me period! I didn't call her anything vicious ,,,her post was grumpy and it seemed to me she did a whole heck of a lot in a couple hours…CAN I HAVE IT ALL? I'm so entitled! I paid and I'm owed it! "Oh beautiful for spacious skys for amber waves of grain…for purple mountains….." Yahhhhh I want MORE!

What are you talking about?

OP never made any remarks towards anyone else. She talked about her vacation and how he feels about it, not how anyone else should feel about theirs like you and others on this thread are doing. Saying "I'm done" or "this sucks" is not condescending, she was expressing her feelings about her own trip.

It doesn't matter what you believe or what you feel. OP felt what she experienced wasn't adequate, that's completely valid and your opinion on what a Disney trip should be like has absolutely no impact on that. For the record, multiple FP- would not have been necessary to accomplish what OP did arriving at rope drop. FP+ has significantly changed stand by line lengths, in some cases doubled.

My morning was spent checking my phone for FP+.

This is what would've frustrated me if I were the OP. Being glued to my phone at any point during a vacation does not sound like my idea of fun. The list of rides accomplished before lunch sounds productive to me, but if you are spending all your time in between and in the queues constantly checking an app on your phone, I can see how the overall experience would've been greatly diminished. Hope your vacation gets better!

Just wanted to call out the classiness of this reply from OP. I know there's still 5 pages of thread to go, but it was refreshing to see such a non-angry follow up from someone. Good work. Go enjoy your vacation :)

Agree. There were a whole lot of classless responses that were simply thinly veiled (or not so thinly veiled) personal attacks on the OP.

I'm here now and having a great time. It depends on your touring style and perhaps your personality. If you are someone who is very OCD and likes to travel by checking things off on a list, then you might not like it.

It is busier than I'm used to, but we normally go in slow times so I was kind of prepared for that. Lots of school groups and cheer/dance groups. I was worried when I saw that but they have been extremely well behaved. No chanting, or annoying teenage girl behavior in excess. Well done.:cool1:

My 69 year old dad rode TOT with me for the first time..loved it.

Today is AK..

What a wonderful diagnosis! I had no idea that was my prob! Do you prescribe meds, as well?

Over the years, I had learned the rhythm and flow of the parks, especially MK. This rhythm literally flowed in my veins and was part of the magic for me. FP+ has changed the whole rhythm for me. It's not so much how many rides I can do, but more how to avoid the crowds and enjoy the park and not wait in lines. I am sure I can adjust, but for now the magic is just not the same. The magic is not gone, just greatly diminished. And it costs more!!

Exactly :thumbsup2

I hate how OCD is often trivialized like that.

It's like saying "if you are the type of person who is autistic and likes to tour by doing x, y and z then....". OCD is not simply someone being organized or anal about something. It's a disorder, not a way of behaving.

It's only a disorder to people who don't have it. I wouldn't have it any other way. ;)

This is what I keep thinking. I don't want to be attached to a phone the whole time but Disney is pushing that.

Perfectly stated.

Sorry OP. I feel the same way. FP+ was only usefull first and last day.

We did less at RD than any other trip.

The scheduling caused headaches. Hurry up and wait. Keep checking MDE or the weather.

Part of our magic is sharing meals in some wonderfully themed restaurants but we had to cancel a few lunch TS meals after Via Napoli the first day ran late (15 minutes just to check in), so there went some of our "non-ride" magic.

We were there over peak so there was no "day-of" flexibility at all.

You are the only one with the right to judge if your trip is "good enough". Until someone else is paying for my vacation, same here.

We'll also be done for awhile after our long-planned trips are done.

What is the need to constantly check an app on your phone in between attractions and in the queues?

This reply comes with a gently and respectful query so please read it acoordingly.
Is it because the parks are so crowed now? Can you explain to me how FP+ really made standby longer? Couldn't it just be more and more people coming to the parks? With the old FP wasn't there a two hour window and/or timeframe that limited ones touring style as well. i'm really confused to all the folks who say "no more" because of the new system. I know when I went last year we all had so much fun and did everything we wanted over and over and I felt the ability to sign up ahead for rides was enjoyable. I do think for those of us who remember the days in our society before everyone was walking around with a computer/videophone/tracking device and staring down at that thing like so many especially the younger generation do..has changed not only WDW arguably for the worst but our whole society as well. Human interaction as opposed to virtual. We must all adjust the best way we know how. There is most certainly no turning back to the way we were before the i-everythingy blackberry apple android what every that is. I still say a enjoyable vacation is what you make it regardless of the changes forced on us by TPTB.

What is the need to constantly check an app on your phone in between attractions and in the queues?

I have a simple answer to that problem.

I don't own a SmartPhone.

And, if I did, I would use it because I WANTED to, not because I felt like Disney and the FP+ system was making me do it.

Those devices are supposed to be tools that we use to serve our desires, not masters that dictate to us what we do with them.

True. I think what has many people nonplussed is that, not only are they only bypassing 3 lines with FP+ (where they previously bypassed easily twice that many with the legacy system), but to add insult to injury, they are also having to wait in longer SB lines for the NON-headliners as well. Stuff that used to be practically walk-on is now seeing significant increases in wait times. I think factors such as this can certainly contribute to dissatisfaction.

Exactly what I fear. I am solar powered, so evening EMHs don't do me much good. If EMHs are the only times now when FP lines don't significantly impact SB lines, then my stress-less touring window has shrunk from RD + 2hrs or amEMH + 3 hours to the ONE hour of amEMH -:scared1: And, as you say, those 'go-to when everything else starts lining up' rides that used to be practically walk-on may now have 30min waits.
In summary, if the above proves true; then for my $s, I get 1/3 the "stress-less touring" time and 3X the wait in lines that used to consistently be only 5-10min. Surely WDW is considering these things and will continue to improve and tweak the new system ...right

I don't understand either why people say Disney is making them use their smartphone all day.

If you book your 3 FP+ in advanced, the only reason to use your smart phone would be if you want to change your plans.

How many times could that really happen in a day? Exactly 3!

You *could* use it also if you wanted to check wait times before you went to a certain area, but that's really optional and improved functionality, since it wasn't offered before. You used to just walk over to the ride and check the wait time.

I don't get why anyone would constantly have to check their MDE app. You get your Fastpass+ times ahead of getting there, and maybe check back once if you want to change something. If something isn't available for the time you want, it's probably not going to come available each time you get off another ride.

Protip- If you (like me) cannot memorize your fastpass+ times, enter them into your calendar for the day instead of constantly opening the app. It is more battery friendly, won't require a log on, is much faster, and can remind you that one is coming up soon.

No, not right. The reason you have to wait longer in SB lines is because more visitors are now using the system.

So if you're only getting 1/3 the FP's that you used to...that means there's 2 additional family's that used to get none...and they are now benefiting. Why would Disney tweak that?
