Here now- MK security

silly questions, but where do you put your bags while walking through the detector? Or do you just leave all your stuff on?

Same as any other metal detector you go through at the airport, concert, etc

Table with little bins next to the metal detectors. Empty your pockets and put any bags on the table, walk through, then take your belongings

Do you have to take EVERYTHING out of your pockets or just the metal stuff? Would really be a pain in the butt for me with different random stuff in my pockets. Also do your credit/debit cards etc in your wallet set it off?

Our local six flags has had metal detectors for years. Really doesn't seem to hold the line up any more than ticket scanning.
6 Flags has nowhere near theamount of visitors that MK gets. I've seen pictures of the horrible crowds in the area outside the MK bag check during holiday weeks...that's *without* everyone going through metal detectors. Metal Detectors certainly aren't going to make those crowds any better. This makes me very happy that, so far, we've been able to go without going over a major holiday. IMO, sending everyone through the metal detectors is just going to make the area *prior* to the metal detectors more of a target, especially on the crowd level 10 weeks.

I was randomly scanned back in March and it took just a minute. I can see it taking a tad longer though if they are scanning everyone. At the time I was scanned the guard mentioned they will soon have everyone walk through the detectors.

What happens if you set off the detector because you have metal in your body? Like as in a hip replacement? Do they just wand you or do you get groped, which at times has been more personal than necessary, like at the airport?

Arrived at MK this morning at 7:30am for PPO adr at BOG and EVERYONE had to go through metal detectors. I asked CM about it and she said it the new operating procedure for early mornings.

I think that's a stock answer for former presidents, prince harry and others are in the park because of invictus games. epcot was doing everyone on saturday but not sunday for example..

I also wanted to add, that the Chicago Cubs (I think all baseball clubs) now require people to go through metal detectors at the entrances. I have been to 4 games, including Opening Day, and I really did not experience a slower line because of it. There is a little trough next to the machine where you put your bag (after it's been checked), your keys, phone, wallet, etc so your stuff is never out of your sight.

Heard Disney will offer a special clearance card to special guests--you know the ones that will pay to get them. Just $50.00 and we clear you for your entire stay. Just kidding...but for some reason I think they are sitting around a table trying to figure how they can make some money and enhance the bottom line with this. Security is important but I've always felt that if the bad guy wants to hurt you they will find a way.

Is there radiation in these scanners? Like at the airports?

No, they're the old school ones- the metal detectors, not the large new x ray scanners that they have at almost every airport now. Just like the metal detector they have children walk through still at the airport.

Thanks.

I got confused with metal detectors and body scanners.
I dont think metal detectors give out radiation.

Does your local Six Flags have over 19 million visitors a year?

It has less to do with the number of visitors per year, and more about the number of visitors during the day. You can expect that it should be similar for most parks. Hollywood Studios is approximately 40,000 people capacity per day. Sporting events at major stadiums see more. As @robinb notes below.

Was at a white sox game on thursday :cool2:, and they had the metal detectors as well. Just a small line to get it, but it took little time at all. The Cellular field, its just a table, and your stuff slides alongside you.

I just wanted to mention, I don't really care about the security checks as long as it doesn't feel like I'm the only one being checked. The bottle neck is scanning your ticket with almost no turnstyles opened and you have to wait much longer to show your ticket than you do for security check. being 30 seconds faster getting to a 5 minute line to show your ticket isn't really adding to the time it takes to get in.

I'm ok with this occasionally increase in how many they check and you can tell the staff has been disney trained now and it's really not a big deal..

My six flags has these metal detectors as well and let me tell you they are no where near as skilled as Disney, lol...last year we went opening weekend to Hurricane Harbor. We always get there about 45 minutes to a half hour early to park the car and walk into park where the gate starts...when we got there it was so crowded! The park opens at 10:30...they start letting everyone in around 10 and they have the pool areas roped off...we got to the gate around 10:15 and we didn't even get to the pool until 11! I was really mad, it should not take that long for people to walk through a metal detector and check bags and I mean they were more crowded than usual but to take 45 minutes to get through the line was just crazy! Hopefully Disney has some serious training with these metal detectors so it won't hold up the crowd that much.

A pre-screen card would be nice, but that wouldn't eliminate having to go through the metal detectors.

Now,if Disney ever goes "full TSA" and makes Guests remove shoes, belts,EVERYTHING in pockets, etc.,I would gladly pay for a pre-screen card at WDW!lol:)
