Here now . . . (June 1-7) VERY hot

We normally go during the summer due to my husband's teaching/coaching during the school year, but we were able to squeeze in a vacation in late Feb/early March this year. We had a couple nice days in the 70s, but then it got chilly and we were touring the parks in winter coats and gloves. We were too cold to even want to stay in the parks after the sun went down, and my husband got in the pool once and I never even used the pool!

I'd much prefer touring when its warmer and I love being in the parks at night and not having to worry about bringing extra clothes! We are contemplating a trip in the beginning of August!

Perhaps it was not so much stubbornness about the heat, but a mental disability at the root?

I try to do this, but I get stymied sometimes..
For example... leave the park to go back to swim, enduring long walk to the bus and a long wait, walk back to the room to change, and then T storms roll in and they close the pool. That is sometimes more brutal than staying in the park.
Sometimes we just try to do all indoor attractions if possible when it gets unbearable, or a long table service lunch and then stay in the park all day through most of the evening. The only problem with this is we miss wishes or illuminations because we peter out by 8 or so. I also find that the tstorms in the park are a blessing, unlike other posters, I do think they cool things a bit.
Also, if we do the break, and then go back and close the park, the early morning next day is just to hard to get out.
Any other suggestions? I'm going in July for the first time. Been in August many times. Does it still rain as much in July?

Hee hee! I find this really funny :rotfl2:

Logistically, July and August are our only options for travel to Disney. It is hot, but we make it work. :beach:

Arrived yesterday. It was warm but cloudy. Today is SUPER hot. We have Frogg Toggs and mister fans, but it is HOT!! We have tried to stay in as much as we can, Little Mermaid, etc. as son as we leave an attraction it feels like we are melting. This is gross, but literally sweat rolling down your head and your back. Yuck!! I'm from the South and thought we would be okay, but we are pretty miserable. I love Disney, but never again in the summer.

It was even miserable in late October last year.

I'm from Louisiana and I'd like my vacations to be AWAY from the miserable heat and humidity...that's why we're doing January in '15.

I agree...thanks for the breaking news that it's hot at WDW in summer.

I just hope it's not crowded and expensive.

Your killin' me, you're really killing me! :rotfl2:

Yous'es is a bunch a' wise guys'es ... and I love it!

Ditto & :lmao:

Yes, hot & humid & getting worse. It'll probably start raining every day too.

Looking at the weather though, it's right in line with the historical averages for this time of year. It's not abnormally hot by any stretch, just FL in early summer.

Yes, expect July rain to be the same as June, if not worse. Really, you can expect it through September.

I think it's one of those situations where you have to pick your battles. On a typical 6 day trip we find that RD doesn't work every morning if we expect to see fireworks the night before. We alternate whenever possible depending on the crowd levels. Another thought would be on your fireworks night, sleep in that morning & go to the pool rather than rushing to the parks. If you hit the pool from 9-12 rested until 1/2pm & hit the parks by 2/3pm (or whatever works time wise) you'd be pretty rested & ready for a late night where you also do a lot of rides following the fireworks. Problem is that doesn't always work with younger kids, I know. At DD's age she can easily make it to a midnight MK closing if we get a later start & we often get a lot of riding done in those last 2 hours before park closing.

We typically go in either March or November... in 2010 we went in the summer for SWW and my wife said "never again".

We spent one day at AK and it had to have been the hottest place on the planet. There just weren't enough places to try and get out of the weather for a few minutes... most of the shops are open air, the lines are most outdoors, etc.

FL can be a pretty miserable place in the summer and especially with the humidity... but that's not news to anyone.

Today at home in the UK it has been 68deg 59% humidity.
We fly out to Orlando next week, I think we will find it a little bit warmer!

I'm in south Alabama. Last summer we went to Michigan. The hottest day was 72 and the humidity was very low all week. I was in heaven! LOL

It's VERY hot and like the saying goes "it's not the heat, it's the humidity."

Dress - loose, cotton clothing. Light weight and light in color. Hats. No heavy makeup or lotion. Lots of sunscreen (don't forget the backs of ears).

Drink lots of water. Avoid carbonated and alcoholic drinks as they will dehydrate you.

If you need to - avoid being outside between noon and 3-4pm. Swim, nap, watch tv, save this time for indoor attractions like CoP, HoP, CBJ, etc. Bring little fans/misters, wet wash clothes in a plastic baggy.

Sweating is a good thing. It's how our bodies cool themselves.

Heat is so subjective, isn't it? :)

My primary sport means I'm outside, in any weather, for most of the day from 8 am until we're all done. (I barrel race.) This Saturday, we were outside in the sun from about 10 am until about 8 pm. We have a canopy that we set up, and I'm in the shade when I can be, but most of the time it's sunscreen, a hat, and a bottle of water and that's it. It was in the low 80s here this weekend. We did have a nice breeze for a lot of the day as well.

We're going to be at WDW for nine days in the mid June "heat." We have misters and mister fans and mini fans and hats and sunscreen and the ability to find shade and air conditioning. I hope that's enough! :rotfl2:

The OP is correct, it was unbelievably hot here today. Heat index reached 108. This is my 11th trip to Disney and I have never seen it this hot. We got to MK at RD, left by 2:00 because we couldn't tolerate the heat any more. I gave away my fast passes rather than walk to Under the Sea, then I literally started to pass out while driving to the townhome and hit a median. Thankfully nobody was hurt and I snapped out of it right away, I have never, ever had that happen before in my life so that tells you how hot it is.

Oh my goodness.

Here is a website I wish I never found... (WeatherSpark, historical averages for some number of years)

What several PP's have said is true. There is nothing like a couple of way too cold trips to make you appreciate the hot trips!

You know, being from Canada I never ever would have believed this until our trip this February!! I mean it is COLD here all winter long. Bone crushing cold. Yet there I was at Universal in February when it was about 45 degrees and really windy and I was miserable:rolleyes:
We packed it in early. It was just no fun to be trying to stay warm and slogging from attraction to attraction. Yet I manage in the August heat at Disney somehow?:confused3

I think the difference with any extreme weather, be it hot or cold, is that at home I am out in it as little as possible and appropriately dressed. At Disney you are attempting to walk around in it all day and have fun while you do it and sometimes that is much harder.
