Here Now at EPCOT (Sat. Jan. 28)

I'm from the northeast. I used to go out in the snow in t-shirts. Today I wore a coat in my ticket booth and had to re-type a couple AP contracts because I couldn't feel my hands and made typos as a result. (The heat didn't work in the booth I was in.)

This weather is NOT why I moved here. :crazy2:

It's freezing. I mean seriously freezing. Pack more than a sweatshirt.

Right now, it's too cold to be outside even with the warmest winter coat. I'm not at WDW, but live close and I can tell you the temperature has to go up at least 30 degrees before I'm leaving the house.

Warmest winter coat? What does this mean - because I just spent the day skiing and I'm not planning to bring ski jackets... I'm still trying to figure out what to pack for Feb. Thinking primaloft coats (we'll need them for the airport at 5am anyway, likely to be around 20 or lower...) and a fleece for all, oh, plus shorts and bathing suits! Who cares! It'll be warmer in Florida than Upstate NY in Feb!

What? My coat is home in Ohio, and though I'm layered up, it's perfectly okay to be outside in this. I'd be too hot in my winter coat. (Maybe because I'm from Ohio, where this is very mild winter weather?)

Is it cold for Florida? Yeah, definitely... but it's far from "scrap your plans and stay in" weather either IMO.

It is currently 50 degrees in the Orlando area. Saying it is too cold to be outside even with the warmest winter coat is a slight exaggeration. :rotfl:

IMO it is! I would be back at the hotel with the heat blasting. You'll are clearly tougher than me. I made the mistake of going one January day that was like this. It wasn't too bad getting to Epcot, but once there, the wind picked up. I had to go building to building, taking time to warm up in each, moving toward the exit. I was even desperate enough to huddle in a camera store for a few, as it's all that was available at the time before the long trek to the bus. Brrrrrrrr

It was 46 here, but a little warmer there probably due to the population of Orlando. I could not do parks in this arctic weather. It would be a good day to go tour different resorts. It may sound like an exaggeration, but 50 degrees in FL is WAY WORSE than 50 degrees up north. I don't know why, but they sure don't feel the same to me.

If it makes anyone feel better, we did watch many unprepared people walk around HS all day in the cold with nothing but shorts and a tshirt! However, I had on jeans, shirt and a zip up running jacket and sure wished I had brought a warmer jacket. And I tolerate cold very well usually. Probably a mid weight winter jacket is best for this weather. When the sun comes out (which doesn't look like it'll happen today) or you are walking fast, the jacket might seem a little excessive, but standing still or riding a tram car the jacket would be a wonderful thing!

We are still having a wonderful time and I know I even got some sunburn on my face yesterday because we didn't think to use sunscreen!

We are from the NE also but 50 degrees in Orlando, especially Epcot with that breeze off the lagoon feel so much colder. I think it's the humidity that just seeps in and chills you. Bring mittens, hats and plan to layer up. Trust me, I have a collection of $70 WDW sweatshirts that were NOT planned souveniers

Personally, I love that weather for park touring. I love a sweatshirt and jeans. I'll take that any day over 100 degree with 100% humidity!

I should have specified in my post, that was MY warmest winter coat, my Floridian adapted body temperature, and the day of the original post.

It has already warmed up here. We had a very cold DAY, but that's usually how Florida weather works. It's rather unpredictable. It was in the mid 80's all week, and then BAM ... 46 degree day out of nowhere. People who live in colder climates likely won't need their warmest winter coats, on any day in Florida.

February is looking good so far (as far as the forecast stretches,) at least for day time temperatures. A bit chilly for me, but likely nice for you. Highs in the 70's. Only getting really cold at night with lows in the 40's and 50's, so early mornings and late evenings may be chilly. But once again, not unusual here. We can go from 90 degree day time temp, where people are swimming, to a nearly freezing night.

I always find it interesting to see the difference in dress between locals and tourists this time of year. When I go into town (which is a major stop off the interstate for people traveling to Disney and south,) all the locals are bundled in coats, boots, gloves, and hats. Yet, it's not unusual to see people passing through in shorts and t-shirts, and not even appearing cold.

We also have a large Canadian population in our town during the winter, as we have lots of monthly rental apartments. I'll never forget visiting a friend a few years back on a blustery winter day. I was all bundled up and made a quick break from the car to heat of the apartment. Meanwhile, the Canadians were out on their patios, having a gathering that could only be explained by them being under the impression that it was summer time. The men were in shorts with no shirts, the women shorts and bathing suit tops and were applying sunscreen to each other's backs.

So, yeah, being from upstate NY, you very well may be swimming in February, when I think it's quite cold. :beach:

Oh we're definitely swimming! If it hits 70 my kids will be in the water for sure! Even with 40s & 50s I'm going to be hard-pressed to convince my DS to put on long pants (I can barely get him into an actual winter coat instead of a sweatshirt for the bus stop in the morning unless it's under 20 degrees)! And sunscreen - we're REALLY going to need that. I'm not sure we've seen the sun for more than 10 minutes at a time in weeks... sigh. And yes, winter coats... we have fall coats, winter coats, heavier coats... and ski coats. Those temperature ratings on coats - we all actually pay attention to those! I wouldn't dream of buying a winter coat that wasn't rated for at least -10 to -20! I'm soooooo ready for Florida! :beach:

I hear you on the coat ratings. I lost a lot of weight last year and this winter is killing me. In the 30's here and I'm freezing. We leave Tuesday and I'm hoping I can honestly enjoy 70s and not be disappointed it's not warm enough. Since I don't know how I will feel, I've packed the hats and gloves along with layers of jackets. Not anticipating I will wear much for shorts, but do have capris for the day time and jeans for at night.
I'm sure I'll be happy one I find the right layer combination. I prefer not to bring my winter coat as that feels so wrong. I too am ready for Florida! Bringing sunscreen.
