I should have specified in my post, that was MY warmest winter coat, my Floridian adapted body temperature, and the day of the original post.
It has already warmed up here. We had a very cold DAY, but that's usually how Florida weather works. It's rather unpredictable. It was in the mid 80's all week, and then BAM ... 46 degree day out of nowhere. People who live in colder climates likely won't need their warmest winter coats, on any day in Florida.
February is looking good so far (as far as the forecast stretches,) at least for day time temperatures. A bit chilly for me, but likely nice for you. Highs in the 70's. Only getting really cold at night with lows in the 40's and 50's, so early mornings and late evenings may be chilly. But once again, not unusual here. We can go from 90 degree day time temp, where people are swimming, to a nearly freezing night.
I always find it interesting to see the difference in dress between locals and tourists this time of year. When I go into town (which is a major stop off the interstate for people traveling to Disney and south,) all the locals are bundled in coats, boots, gloves, and hats. Yet, it's not unusual to see people passing through in shorts and t-shirts, and not even appearing cold.
We also have a large Canadian population in our town during the winter, as we have lots of monthly rental apartments. I'll never forget visiting a friend a few years back on a blustery winter day. I was all bundled up and made a quick break from the car to heat of the apartment. Meanwhile, the Canadians were out on their patios, having a gathering that could only be explained by them being under the impression that it was summer time. The men were in shorts with no shirts, the women shorts and bathing suit tops and were applying sunscreen to each other's backs.
So, yeah, being from upstate NY, you very well may be swimming in February, when I think it's quite cold.
