We came for two nights, with tickets for just one day. We are staying at the Royal Pacific. The tickets are two park, one day and we have the express pass that comes with the resort. We've both been to Universal before, but it's been a few years, before the new part of WWOHP. Here's what we did:
7:30 Got in line for water taxi to early opening park, Islands of Adventure. Waited about 20 minutes for the water taxi, should have walked.
Got to WWOHP at about 8, headed straight for the big ride (can't remember the name). It was broken down, so we got in line for the train and made it to Universal Studios by 8:30. Immediately did Gringotts, which was just okay. DH has a neck injury so he skipped it.
Next we rode Simpsons and MIB, both walk-on, no wait with the Express pass.
Walked around to the Boulongarie (sp?) had breakfast and went back to Islands of Adventure. Rode Jurassic Park, went and looked around WWOHP and some shops. We tried Poseidon's Fury, but it was so bad we walked out. By this time I was in pain (something wrong with my back) so we went back to the resort for a rest at about 11 a.m. DH went swimming, the pool area is very nice.
Back to IOA at 4:30. Again, long wait for the water taxi. Rode big WWOHP ride, and Cat in the Hat. Decided to go back to Universal and eat at Finnegins. We got a table by the window while the parade was going by, so that was nice. Food was pretty good too. I rode the Mummy (waited 25 minutes with Express Pass, although the wait time was listed as 15), and we walked around the lake while the sun was going down. It was nice, but we didn't stay for the Cinema Spectacular that starts at 9.
For us, one day was enough. DH can't ride roller coasters, and I don't love doing them alone. The Royal Pacific is comfortable and close, but know you will be waiting for that water taxi.
A note on food: we ate at Margaritaville and the new Mexican restaurant in City Walk (name escapes me). The food was just okay in both places, although the Mexican restaurant has good guacamole made table side and a great mariachi band. It is just as expensive to eat in City Walk as in the parks, unless you have Burger King. We didn't eat at any of the resort restaurants, but we did see Gru and a Minion in the character dining restaurant.
Characters: The only characters we saw were Woody Woodpecker, Bumblebee from the Transformers and one of the Autobots. There were others in the parade, although that was pretty short. We aren't big character people, though so we didn't seek them out.
Sorry about spelling, grammar, etc. It's been a long day!
