I'd like to join in!

I've always been an avid reader, and I love the idea of a group where I can read what I want, and not be locked in to a specific book.

Some books I read in 2013: The Harper Connolly series by Charlaine Harris, Shakespeare's Landlord by Charlaine Harris, 2/3/4 of the Women's Murder Club by James Patterson, Angel Falls by Nora Roberts, Witness by Nora Roberts, A Perfect Hope by Nora Roberts, Rose Madder by Stephen King, re-read the Harry Potter series with my children (I reread these OFTEN. I may or may not be a HP nerd to the highest degree), Dark Witch by Nora Roberts, The Story Sisters by Alice Hoffman, Hunger Games trilogy, the first two Pretty Little Liars books (I love the show, the books...um, no.), Angel's Fall by Nora Roberts, Tribute by Nora Roberts, High Noon by Nora Roberts, The Bachman books by Stephen King, and reread 1-9 + Visions of Sugar Plums of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, and the first 7 How to Train Your Dragon books (with my kids)...those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

This was not a "deep" year for me at all! We happened upon a book sale this summer and I got about 8 or 9 Nora Roberts books, which is why I read so many.

My "must reads" for 2014 are Doctor Sleep by Stephen King(I bought it for my nook, but I'm waiting until Christmas vacation to start it), Joyland by Stephen King, Takedown 20 by Janet Evanovich, NOS4A2 by Joe Hill, and to revisit Charles Dickens (David Copperfield and Great Expectations, specifically).

I will set a goal of 45 books for the year...I'm curious to see how it goes!

Wow, kudos to you!! I would like to read through the Bible as well, but don't think I could manage in one year.

I've tried it before, with no success, when I was working full time and had small children. There are many plans listed on-line, but I'm trying this one this year: www.bible-reading.com/bible-plan.html

I've printed out the schedule and I have a Bible with the schedule on my nightstand and a Bible on the table next to my chair here in the family room. Now that I'm retired, there's really no reason why I can't do this.

Of course! Lol... Just post your goal and Momofthreeboys(I think that's the spelling) will post it in the OP. :)
Lol!XD Thanks!:)

Um...I'm going to say 150 books.:) (Because a lot of the books I read are kind of short, like the Babysitters Club ones and stuff like that.:))

I'm hoping someone in here can help me with some recommendations. I've been reading a lot of YA books (Divergent, Hunger Games, stuff like that) recently. Not to sound like a dirty bird, but does anyone know of any books that are similar, but are geared more towards adults? I'm not looking for a dystopian Fifty Shades, but hopefully you get what I mean ;)

You might like "World Made By Hand" & "The Witch of Hebron" by James Howard Kunstler. It's adult, maybe a mild dystopian, lol.

And there's always "The Stand" by Stephen King....

I would like to join this year. I monitored last year's thread and got some good ideas for books. I am an avid reader but the last few years I have slacked off due to the darn computer and Netflix! I love to read and want to read more. I am hoping having a "goal" will entice me to read instead of surf the net.

I tend to read gigantic ooks so I will start with a goal of 25 for now. I recently finished Fall of Giants by Ken Follett (meh) and am currently reading The Corrections by Franzen. I still have two more books in the Game of Thrones series to get through.

I was disappointed with Fall of Giants as Follett's Pillars of the Earth is one of my favorite books of all time. I won't finish the series.

THANKS!

I'm so excited to do this with you guys. I love to read and my sis gave me the first book of a series for Christmas. Her and my mom think I'll love them. So my goal well be 30.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've added them to my wish list, can't wait to read them :)

I'm in! I couldn't do it last year because of school, but this year I will!

Put me down for 50, please. :)

I have loved this year's thread. I will set my goal at 100.

I have downloaded a few books already for the new year. I am looking forward to reading The Rosie Project and The Luminaries.

Updated through this point.

Good to see some old "friends" back for another year! And a big welcome to all our new "friends"!

Thanks so much for doing all this. It is greatly appreciated!

Last year I set my goal at 26 and blew through that in no time so I upped to 52. Happy to report I went over that!

This year I'll set a goal of 75. :scared1: Lofty, but I'm going to try!

I'm also thinking of setting another little challenge to myself, though anyone is welcome to join in. I'm going to read all of Charles Dickens novels (though some are listed as novellas). There are 20 of them.

The Pickwick Papers
The Adventures of Oliver Twist
The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby
The Old Curiosity Shop
Barnaby Rudge: A Tale of the Riots of 'Eighty'
A Christmas Carol
The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit
The Chimes
The Cricket on the Hearth
The Battle of Life
Dombey and Son
The Haunted Man and the Ghost's Bargain
David Copperfield
Bleak House
Hard Times: For These Times
Little Dorrit
A Tale of Two Cities
Great Expectations
Our Mutual Friend
The Mystery of Edwin Drood

There is also a series of short stories but perhaps I'll keep those for the 2015 challenge. ;)
