Here it is - the OFFICIAL 2014 READING GOAL CHALLENGE THREAD

I have to thank you all-you're giving me ideas for so many books I want to read. Too bad I'm still in the middle of book number one! I forsee a trip to the used book store very soon. I wish I could make use of the library, but I love HAVING the books I read, just in case I want to read them again, and I also wish I could make use of the Kindle my husband bought me a couple of years ago, but I like to have the actual book in my hands.

Thanks for that. I've read a few of them; Dark Places, Gone Girl, Unbroken, The Fault in Our Stars. Now I want to read Winter's Tale, maybe Divergent. The Giver has been on my list for a while. Definately have to read it now.

How funny! The 3 you have read are 3 that are on my list to read this year. The 3 you want to read are 3 that I have read and loved in the past! Hope you enjoy them!

Whew....I just read all the previous posts....
I had no idea that I Hunt Killers had sequels...thanks to those who mentioned!
I also LOVED What Alice Forgot....

I forgot to mention what I'm looking forward to reading in 2014
Allegiant
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver

#2 - What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty

I really liked this book. Alice hits her head and wakes up having forgotten the last ten years of her life. She thinks she is pregnant with her first and in a great marriage when in reality she has three children and getting a divorce. That's the main story, but there are a couple of side stories going on about her grandma and sister.

I have a bunch of options to read next but decided to go with the first Outlander book because it is from the library. I thought I would love them based on reviews, but I am having trouble getting into it. I think I will give it until page 100.

Thank you for the report. I have this book on my list; for some ridiculous reason, I thought it would be the same Alice from "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore". Dont know what I was thinking... :sad2:
I just read this article on books to read before they hit the theaters:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/ariellecalderon/books-to-read-before-they-hit-theaters-this-year?bffb

I may try a few of these out myself.:)

Thanks! I just added almost half these books to my Wish List. No, nobody else is going to get them for me - but I'm not buying anything else just yet. I think there are close to 1,000 books waiting on my Kindle already.

Finished book #3 - The Whole Golden World by Kristina Riggle

This is about a high school teacher who has an affair w/one of his students. There are 3 narrators: the teen, the teen's mother, & the teacher's wife. I would describe this book as a car accident that you can't help looking at. You know people will get hurt, but you can't stop reading. It's a quick read too. This author does a decent job of handling this complex issue & the characters.

Seventeen-year-old Morgan Monetti shocks her parents and her community with one simple act: She chooses to stand by the man everyone else believes has exploited her—popular high school teacher TJ Hill. Quietly walking across a crowded courtroom to sit behind TJ, and not beside her parents, she announces herself as the adult she believes herself to be.
But her mother, Dinah, wants justice. Dinah is a fighter, and she believes with all her heart and soul that TJ is a man who took advantage of her daughter. He is a criminal who should be brought to justice, no matter what the cost to his family.
Rain, TJ's wife, is shocked that her handsome, loving, respected husband has been accused of a terrible crime. But has her desperation to start a family closed her eyes to the fault lines in her marriage? And can she face the painful truths about herself and her husband?
Told from the perspectives of these three remarkable women, The Whole Golden World navigates the precarious territory between childhood and adulthood, raising questions about love and manipulation, marriage and motherhood, consent and responsibility. It's a novel both shocking and unforgettable in its power.

Next book: The 3rd Lemony Snicket book

Any insight on Cloud Atlas? I'm thinking about reading this after getting the DVD from the library (and I'll be honest, I'm mostly interested in the segment with Ben Whishaw as the piano player).

#6 The Village Newcomers by Rebecca Shaw-pretty trite little book. I have a couple of others out from the library so I may read them.

#7 The Mist on Bronte Moor by Aviva Orr-this was a book someone mentioned at the end of last year's thread. I have been to the Bronte parsonage so I loved this, I could "see" the whole book.

That was me. I read it because it was a freebie but it ended up being a really good book. I'm glad you enjoyed it as well.

I'm currently reading Hopeless. Saw it mentioned on here a few times. I read 1/3 of it last night. LOL Not my usual type of book, although I find I am enjoying them more and more. I didn't want to put it down.

Currently I am reading Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison by Piper Kerman
I am about 50% through and it is a little slow but I am interested in finishing it.

Oh, I'm sorry that I missed you!! What is your goal?

Wow, both one Girl & Dark Places will be movies? I didn't realize Maze runner was going to be a movie too! I am looking forward to A Fault in Our Stars as a movie.

I'd like to jump in!
I've given myself a goal of 40 books to read on Goodreads and have already completed the first one: Deadly Heat by Richard Castle. I gave it 3 stars.

I am now working on rereading the Dark Tower series by Stephen King and am currently on The Gunslinger. :)

Goal: 100 books this year, plus the Bible in its entirety.

#2 - Every Day a Friday - How to be Happier 7 Days a Week by Joel Osteen. Osteen is the pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, one of the largest in the US. In this book, he offers encouragement, spiritual guidance, and practical advice on how to find joy and happiness in every day of the week, every day of your life.

Many people call Osteen's ministry "Christianity lite," but he writes well, knows his stuff, and offers thought-provoking insights to living a more joyful, happier life. This book was just what I needed right now.

I take it since this is book three that you are enjoying them? I have the first on my list and wondering how you feel about the series.

5/60 The Scorch Trials (#2 Tne Maze Runner series) by James Dashner

Summary from GoodReads
Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end. No more puzzles. No more variables. And no more running. Thomas was sure that escape meant he and the Gladers would get their lives back. But no one really knew what sort of life they were going back to.

In the Maze, life was easy. They had food, and shelter, and safety . . . until Teresa triggered the end. In the world outside the Maze, however, the end was triggered long ago.

Burned by sun flares and baked by a new, brutal climate, the earth is a wasteland. Government has disintegrated—and with it, order—and now Cranks, people covered in festering wounds and driven to murderous insanity by the infectious disease known as the Flare, roam the crumbling cities hunting for their next victim . . . and meal.

The Gladers are far from finished with running. Instead of freedom, they find themselves faced with another trial. They must cross the Scorch, the most burned-out section of the world, and arrive at a safe haven in two weeks. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.

Thomas can only wonder—does he hold the secret of freedom somewhere in his mind? Or will he forever be at the mercy of WICKED?

I liked the first book of the series better, but was still hooked on this one. I will continue with the series if for no other reason then to find out what is really going on.

#3 of 50 - Johnny Carson by Henry Bushkin

I really enjoyed this biography. The author was his lawyer for 20 years so dishes dirt about Carson's private life. It's an interesting profile about a very famous man that wasn't the same way in private as he was on TV. I'm sure most people aren't. There were some details about their business dealings that were a big boring, but that doesn't take up much space in the book.

#4 will be Size 12 and Ready to Rock, the 4th book in Meg Cabot's Heather Wells series

Book #3 A Christmas Story by Jean Shepard

Book #4 The Christmas Cookie Club by Ann Pearlman

Book #5 Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
