Here it is - the OFFICIAL 2014 READING GOAL CHALLENGE THREAD

Just found a new series to get hooked on: classic James Bond novels. Already held two from the library and hoping they are as much fun as the movies.

Gah! I meant to sign up to this before the new year started. I hope i still can!! My goal is 13 books. I'm most excited to read Ranger's Apprentice 13. Which I hope to start on soon!!

I have read 1 book out of the 100 books I am going to read this year. Now I am reading three books.

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Morning Glory by Sarah Jio

A Natural History of Dragons: A Memoir by Lady Trent by Marie Brennan

Finally finished Whiskey Beach. I found it to be boring. I started 11/22/63 today. I had started reading it a few months ago but couldn't get into it so I put it aside. Restarted it today and so far I am really liking it. I had first started reading it on vacation and I guess my mind was just on other things and I couldn't concentrate on it. Real glad I started it over

Book 10- Tiger by Tash Aw. This was a free book from my kobo. Can't say I enjoyed it very much. Was very short and didn't have any point to it.
Don't recommend at all.

Just had my first throwing in the towel of the year: I tried "To Your Scattered Bodies Go" (Riverworld Saga) and well I was just hoping it would be more like the miniseries I found at the library. Plus I was just getting too confused by all the character POV's and the jumping around it took. I may give this one another shot in the future but for now I just gave up.

Book 11- back to the pilliga- Tony parsons.
This was a crime/romance set in outback Australia. I really enjoyed this book and thought the author did a great job of setting up the story, it was fast paced and kept me interested the whole book
Highly recommend.

Hope it is not too late to join in! I love reading and like many others have said I get stuck reading the same authors. So I hope to find some new ideas here!

My goal will be 100 books for the year.

Right now I am reading A Storm of Swords, book 3 in the Game of Thrones Series.

I finished book 1/30: David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell. If you've read any Gladwell books, this is more of his same formula: Fascinating, well-written anecdotes incorrectly presented as research with questionable conclusions. I have read 4 of his books because he is very influential in my previous line of work. This is the first I've read him since leaving that profession, and yeah, I just don't need to read his books anymore. He is a brilliant writer, but I never agree with the conclusions he draws or his research methods.

Next up: The Eye of the World: Book 1 of The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. I've been wanting to read this for awhile but have been intimidated by the number of books in the series if I enjoy it. But no better time to give this a go than a new year so here goes.

Welcome!

My son is reading this at the moment, I have only read the first two so far.

My sons loved the Wheel of Time series! One actually reread the series once!

I'd love to join too, if it's not too late! 25 seems like a good goal for me. I started Game of Thrones a few months ago but haven't picked it up in weeks.

I love this idea!! I never needed motivation to read before but life is so busy now I need motivation to slow down I guess :)

Updated through here!

A big welcome to all the newcomers! pixiedust:

It's never too late to join, so if you haven't already, come join in the fun!

Finished A Dog's Purpose last night. LOVED IT! It made me laugh, it made me smile, it made me weepy. I recommend it to anyone that likes a good book to cuddle up with and takes you though a range of emotions. I hope to read A Dog's Journey later this year.

Next up NOSA42 by Joe Hill.

book 4/150 a hidden witch by debora geary, the 2nd in her series of cosy fantasy books. a quick enjoyable read.

I'd like to join! I think I'll set my goal for 25 to start, hopefully I can surpass that!

At present, I'm reading 'Call The Midwife' It's the Jennifer Worth book that the series was produced from. It's really really good and provides and insight to what childbirth was like after WWII.

Thanks for the support!!

Book 3/100

From GoodReads:
On an ordinary morning in Fox Harbor, Wisconsin, Meg and Rex Van Dorn's lives are irrevocably changed when a drunk driver slams into Meg's car, killing the couple's six-year-old son, Evan. In a town in which everyone knows everybody else, it's no surprise that Meg and the driver, Cindy Ann Kreisler, were once the best of friends. Now, as Meg recovers from her own injuries, she and Rex find themselves unable to cope with their anger and despair, especially after Cindy Ann returns -- with a mere slap on the wrist -- to the life she lived before the accident: living in a beautiful house, enjoying her own three daughters, all of whom walked away from the accident unharmed.

In their rage and grief, Meg and Rex buy a boat to sail around the world, hoping to put as much distance between themselves and Cindy Ann Kreisler as possible. Adrift in the company of other live-board cruisers, Meg tries to believe that she and Rex have left their bitterness behind. But when she returns to Fox Harbor for her older brother's wedding, she is forced to face the complex ties that bind her to the woman who has wounded her so badly. For, as Meg knows better than anyone, Cindy Ann has secrets and sorrows of her own, dating back to the summer of their friendship.

My Thoughts:
heartbreaking story of love, loss, learning to let go and move on.
Weaving past and present, we get a glimpse of Cindy Ann's teen years that brought her the place she is in today. Meg's grief, as well as Cindy Ann's pain jumps off the page and rips at your heart.

4/5

Four other books from this author look promising, may have to add them to my evergrowing list. ;)

5/50
45 pounds (more or less)----K.A Barson

This is a YA book. It was a quick and entertaining read. I could see my high school self in the main character.
YA books certainly have gotten better over the past few years!

I'm loving this arctic vortex we have going on! I've been reading and cooking. When I'm reading, I have my 3 warm and cuddly dogs with me. And my hubby appreciates the cooking!

Hope everyone is staying warm!!
