Here is why you have to be careful

There are two things in VMK that I want Inferno and green flips. I have finally reached a point where I have enough to make a good trade for the flips.

Tonight in a trade room someone that I have seen around and have on my friends list said that he might be trading them. I took him through my rooms and he asked for all of the gold in my two gold rooms which was crazy. I have something like 28 sets.

Anyway we cane to an agreement but I said that I wanted someone else to hold the flips. This was a big trade and I didn't want to get stuck giving all of that gold and not getting anything and I had heard a not so great story about this person so I wanted to be careful. There was way more gold than would fit in a trade window.

He crashed. A little later I was on Main Street trading with my mule and he was there but did not approach me but a few minutes later a girl walked up and started to talk to me and guess what! She was wearing green flips. She was a guest and I knew that no new guest could have them so I asked who she was. She gave me a name that I have seen around but could not form a good impression of. I of course mentioned that I was hoping to trade for them. She asked what the offer was and agreed to trade. Bells were going off but I decided to see how far it would go. I was not going to just offer up my stuff and get taken.

I picked up the gold from my room and a boy that I know happened to be in there also. I asked him to stick around and watch.

The Guest with the green flips appeared and I asked her to let someone else hang on to them. She would not agree to my friend doing it and wanted her friend. I thought someone neutral a CL might be better but I could not get that to type the dictionary was getting the better of me. She called her friend into the room but I had never seen him so that didn't make me feel better.

I sent a message to staff via the help button asking them to watch the trade. I bluffed a little and said I got a message from them saying they were watching.

She said she didn't want staff to watch because they were mean to her once. I typed out the trade (because I know that VMK and pull the log) and then she said that she didn't like it. She said that I offered blue ears in trade and since blue ears do not exist she could not trade. I told her they do not exist right now and to ask her friend. He was a Day One badge so I figured he would definately know. He said that there was such a thing. There is but they are not available yet I have only heard tha Yavn said they would be a surprisem, whatever that means. I offered her sorcerers hats and I am sure that was what I said I did not call them blue ears.

That was her out, since I think she was planing on taking the trade and not giving me the flips. Once she thought that staff was watching she had to get out of the trade gracefully.

I am SO glad that I listened to my instinct and did not let me desire for the green flips get the better of me.

I am sure she was going to cheat me and the boy watching said that same thing when it was all over.

So know I know this person and one of his mules (the day 1 boy, her so called friend) and I am sure that he is a cheat. That story I heard about his is true.

So no green flips for me, at least not tonight and if I get them it will not be from the boy who intended to cheat me all along but got quite creative about how he did it.

Lisa, you are a very wise woman!

I guess this is another reason I am glad that VMK is re-releasing some of the costumes. If they would just re-release the green flips or the blues sorcerer ears, we wouldn't have to pay a kings ransom in gold to get them. And those that have them wouldn't be able to tempt us quite so easily!
Bravo Lisa, for seeing through this fairly complicated, almost scam.

I am sorry, I dont' consider myself to be a "newb" anymore at this point....but what do you mean by "gold"? Like gold items such as the generator, penny press, etc? Just curious. And WHY are the green flips in such high demand anyway? I heard the staff wears them, but if so why would they be available to everyone else? and why would they want them, so people will think they are Staff?

VMK should offer a clearing house service of sorts for just this reason. Either that or remove the item limit in trades.

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths some people will take to cheat someone in a game...

Yeah I know I have become just as addicted as the next person- but how much energy does it take to create multiple characters so that you can single one person out to cheat... geez

I'm glad you didn't get cheated- a very wise woman there...

I wonder if the reason that the costumes were re-released is just that- to decrease the rarity from time to time- and keep people from getting scammed too bad- you know if the re-releases came out and were only available one day or something- they would still be fairly rare- lots wouldn't have them and lots would still want them-

oh well- thanks for letting me know to really keep my guard up- of course- I don't have much that people would want- but now that I have my gold ears I do get asked to trade tons more than I used to.

I was in a Herbie trade room and I asked the owner (flickr or something like that) if he was trading any herbie stuff, and this other guy wearing a herbie suit spoke up and asked me if I wanted to trade with him.

So I talked trades with him and he asked me if I had the Tomorrowland Retro Pin set and I said "yes" and he asked if I had anything else, and I said I had a gold scoreboard (I did not say extra to him because who knows, he might have demanded for it) and he said ok to that so we made a deal! :cool1:

Then I asked if he had any herbie couches for trade and he said he could trade one. He asked if I had any magic, and I said I had an invisibility pin for trade. So we just did 1 invis. for 1 couch

I was in yavn's room last night and he showed us BLUE ears and said "Blue Ears are a suprise." He showed us the gray HM suit, LOL PixieBella just went :earseek: when she saw yavn with the tux and the hat!!

The green flips are not available and only a very few amount of VMK people wear them and it is one of the few things that I do not have. That is the only reason.

The gold was what you described. It is just VMK slang for that stuff.

If VMK would add an option for a bigger trade window then that would eliminate that problem. I trade all the time and with the double accept buttons you are well protected if your items fit in the window. You only get into trouble if the offer if more than 15 items.

DarthJordan I often see trades where we agree on it and then the person geting to the end of the trade and asks for more or then starts taking things out. One guy removed a big piece when he was tading for me Herbie stuff and when I noticed he put it back. After that I refused to trade with him, he followed me all over VMK for two days. I never did make that trade. If they play games I just close the window.

The only other thing to be careful of is trading for beta. Lots of people do not know what it is or are mistaken. If someone tell you something they are offering is beta MAKE SURE it is before you do it. If you do not know ask them to wait a minute, close the window and look in the shops.

I have made hundreds of trades and only had a handful of problems. I truely think that trading is 99% safe.

I wish that VMK would make things like the green flips unable to trade. Especially since they seem to want to limit them to just staff. Which, btw, makes no sense, since we can buy lots of other green clothes and dress in green if we want.
This is just another one of those puzzles to me. On one hand I can understand the fun of collecting everything in VMK, but I have a very hard time understanding why a person would give so much just for a pair of flips that were only 25 credit when they sold. I also don't understand why VMK allows this item to still be traded but not the diver suit or the magic pins we got from kelloggs codes. :confused3 Guess I'll just continue to live in my state of confusion and enjoy the game anyway! :rotfl:
BTW, no judgement whatsoever, just don't get it is all! I do hope you are able to get the green flips someday, and I further hope someone will be fair and honest when trading them to you. Hey, if some ever land in my lap ;) , you are welcome to them! First on the list! :teeth:

Lisa, I am so glad you knew enough to be suspicious.

And I would like to take the opportunity, to say that the DIS are the best! When I got my Herbie outfit the other night, a lot of DIS were in my room, and since the outfit hadn't been around yet, I offered to let all the girls try it on. We had a blast, and I 'got it back' as I knew I would! It makes sense to me to 'stick with the DIS' for trades! :disrocks:

I agree that it's usually better when you know the DIS people, but even
then, you have to "know" them. I let Bubbasfriend try on my green
explorer a while back when it was new, and I didn't doubt for one moment
that she'd return it. I figure I know who to trust and who not to trust.

I've been "gifted" by a few people, and I know that if I needed to trade
between my mule and my main character, they would be trustworthy. :)

You are right of course, I do remember a few issues with trades with other DIS, that have been posted. The DIS that were in my room at the time, were all well known to me, just to be clear on that. Thx for pointing this out! :)
