Here is the weirdest question you will see today...CC use on ship

Hubby codes for the machines that do chip and sign (we do not have chip and pin here in the U.S. As he schooled me lol). As such, the U.S. Chip cards are much more likely to be used for fraudulent charge backs and there's not a lot of recourse for the merchant once a chargeback has occurred because they only have 10 days to refute it and the banks send everything snail mail so a lot of times they receive the letter with the chargeback after when they can refute it.

At least this is what hubby said :) it's been a big issue for them apparently.

Eta: he also said if we did have chip and pin like the UK, it would be much more secure.

Here in Australia most cards are now contactless / tap. If your purchase is under $100 you just tap and go. If it's over $100 you still tap, you just put your PIN in.

We have just started rolling out tap ATMs too. Your card never leaves your hand so you can't forget it, and the crooks can't skim the mag stripe as its not brig placed in a card reader.
All they would need is an RFID scanner though and to get close enough to your purse or wallet with it to skim the data to clone the card.

In the UK we have been using 'chip and pin' cards for a few years now, i was very surprised that the US were so backward in not having them. On our trip to WDW in January i used my card once as a chip and pin card, all the other retailers said they had the machines but they were not switched on yet.

When we went to the British Isles last August, our credit card companies didn't have the chip cards available in time for us to take them. But we used regular credit cards and not a single merchant had a problem with it -- although I expect that to change as it becomes more and more common to have the chip cards.

Back to OP (thread went to the chip issue) we never had to show our actual card. Put the number in during online check in and never once had to show it or hand it to anyone on the ship. They just used the number from the online check in.

It is almost impossible to leave your card in the chip reader. It makes a loud noise to remove the card.
Most merchants are not realizing that they are the one that will be responsible if there is any fraudulent activity from their POS terminals.

All they would need is an RFID scanner though and to get close enough to your purse or wallet with it to skim the data to clone the card.
It's already happening. As soon as the tech came out, a cyber security expert/hacker was doing a presnentation. She pulled out her phone and asked if a certain person was in the audience then proceeded to rattle off info on this gentleman. Not enough for the others to do anything but enough to say she had his info. Long story short, its already been defeated. She did almost exactly that. She got close with a reader, scanned his chip and info, and could have done a lot more.

Thanks for the help! Turns out my Disney Visa is not demagnetized; I just keep forgetting to get my bank ATM replaced and forgot again today because I voted. But I used the Disney Visa Sunday and all is well.
