This was my mother's favorite hymn in church. She past away 9/1 and this is what we sang at her wake. Today, in church they played this during communion and I was crying my eyes out while I received. My poor little niece (she's 6) probably thought I was nuts. I just cant listen to that song right now.

I'm still the same way with "How Great Thou Art"

You're in my prayers. I know how hard it is. Take care.

I'm very sorry about you losing your mom.

That's a beautiful song. I hope that as time passes, it begins to bring you comfort.

Old Rugged Crosss does that to me as that was played at my Grandma's funeral.

Sorry about your loss. Many hugs!!

Songs do that for sure. I haven't lost either parent yet but I know their favorite hymn and well up with tears anyway. Possibily in time the song will comfort you.

For me it is both Amazing Grace and Just a Closer Walk with Thee. Reminds me of my mom.

That is a beautiful hymn! I LOVE that one! Amazing Grace makes me sad ... I did have it as a hymn at our wedding in memory of my two grandfather's (it was both of their favorites)! Lots of hugs to you!!

They played "Are Ye Able" at church today. DW Sue warned DS James that the third verse always makes her cry. I guess that it reminds her of how much she misses her dad. It chokes me up a bit too.

I have a hard time making it through "Precious Lord Take My Hand" after hearing the story behind the hymn. Every time that I hear the hymn, I think of the pain that Thomas Dorsey must have been feeling when he wrote it. You can check out http://www.preciouslordtakemyhand.com/pltmhhymnhistory.html to read the story for yourself.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your Mom. That is a beautiful hymn, I just love it.

That song definitely get me misty eyed. Ave Maria makes me ball my eyes out since that was sung at my wedding. Unfortunately, I'm back in the mode of not going to church because just being there makes me cry. Hugs to you!!

For me it's "In the Garden" - which was played at my grandmother's funeral. It had always been my favorite & now I have trouble singing it. (Talk about kids thinking you're nuts...she's been gone since 1988.)

When my other grandmother died, they played Amazing Grace. Oddly enough that doesn't bother me as much (unless someone plays it on bagpipes - go figure) since her name was Grace. We used to joke with her about amazing Grace. ;) So it makes me think about her, but also makes me smile.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Sung at my Grandpa's funeral. "God is just a prayer away" gets to me too. Sorry over your loss mrsstats.

On Sept. 12, we sang "This is my Song", which is based on the music Finlandia. It made me so teary eyed, I had to bite my lip. It is hard to sing when you are biting your lip. I also get all sentimental over "Wherever you go". "Here I am, Lord" is one of my favorites, along with "Alleluia, Alleluia, Let the Holy Anthem Rise", which isn't even in our new hymnal, unfortunately.

For me it's "My Jesus, I Love Thee". :sad1:

They played "Bread of Life" at the start of my mother's funeral. It was a Catholic Mass, and I was with the mourners that entered the church behind the coffin. I just started bawling when it got to "And I will raise you up on the last day." I cried in front of the whole congregation all the way to the front pew.

OP, I'm MUCH worse than you. There was a guy at our church who passed away from a brain tumor about 12 years ago. I didn't know him and didn't go to his service. They played "Here I Am" at his service. Thereafter, every time we would sing it in church, one of my friends sho was one of HIS friends would cry...which would make ME cry...now SHE has left the church, but I still tear up at that song!!!

Makes me cry everytime. I also cry when I hear " Were you there when the crucified my Lord?"..... So sorry for your loss.
