Are the Henna tattoos in the parks traditional or "Disney-fied" with Mickeys and castles. I would LOVE to see photos :)

I got a henna tattoo in downtown Disney a few years ago (right across from WoD) and according to her, she was NOT allowed to do anything with Disney copyright. I just wanted one detail changed to a Mickey head but she said she couldn't do it. I don't know if this is still the case...

I saw the cutest glitter tattoo of Rex from Toy Story and the child said he got it in DCA. Does anyone know if there is a shop still doing these in DTD, DCA or DL?

yes, you can get them in DTD or in DCA by the Pier, I think they do them in DLR as well now. I don't remember if they were Disneyfied or not, I got 3 small hearts on my wrist.

I really want to get one, but I was reading that if they are "black" henna tattoos or fake, they can cause a reaction. Are they black or red??

The one I got in DTD (again, a few years ago) was a real henna tattoo (it was not black).

I would be REALLY surprised if Disney allowed "black henna". The reason they are black is that they add some nasty ingredients. So I wouldn't worry too much about that. Disney is a stickler on quality control, and I doubt they would risk the lawsuit. Don't confuse black henna with jagua though. Jagua does turn into a black temporary tattoo, and it is safe. Henna should be brown or reddish brown.

Here's a picture of the henna tattoo my daughter got in May at a kiosk in Downtown Disney:

I really don't know why that posted upside down. I did a preview and it looked right. Sorry!

It doesn't look upside down to me!

How long did the Henna tattoo last? And how much did it cost, if you don't mind me asking!

That is strange, in my view she is standing on her head!

The henna tattoo lasted about 2 weeks, it was very light. DD thinks if she had given it more sun it may have been darker and lasted longer, but she had surgery the week we returned home from DL, so she didn't get out much for about three weeks.

I think it was around $15, plus tip, so maybe about $20.

A friend and I decided to get a small design painted on our faces while in DCA in June. This place does the face painting and the henna tattoos. We asked about Disney characters and she said that they were not Disney employee's and could not paint anything Disney due to copyright laws. But, she was able to paint Disney balloons. They were very cute, and lasted until we washed them off. :tink:

They are red, but as a pp stated don't confuse Jagua with the bad kind of black Henna, black Jagua is OK to use.

It lasts a different amount of time for each person, I give myself Henna tattoos all the time, they normally last about 10 days before they fade completely. I think mine was around $7, it was really small and I had it placed on my wrist.

My 8 year old had one done at CA, by the arcade games. $25, plus tip...lasted just over a week and then was very faded. She did not swim in the pool until over a week had passed and it still faded pretty quickly. We tried putting lemon on it (recommended by the person who did it...I would ask for lemon wedge at restaurants :rotfl2:). I don't know if sunscreen is bad for it?

Sadly I didn't get a good picture of it (forgot) after the bits came off. It did look pretty cool.

eta: Here it is on day 9: not the best pic since it is from my phone.

Henna (Mehndi) will stain better the longer you keep it on. So if you just keep it on for an hour or two, then you won't get such a deep stain. We will often cover the design with toilet paper overnight (using first aid tape to keep it in place). Careful, though. If any of the dried henna gets onto sheets or anything else, it will stain if it gets wet. So brush it up right away.

Different 'types' of skin stain differently. The palms of your hands stain the best. And warmer parts of your body seem to stain better. We've tried holding our mehndi by the fire when camping, and think it helps. A mixture of lemon juice and sugar dabbed gently on the mehndi after it dries will also help. The acid in the lemon juice is supposed to help (there are many theories--one reason is that it helps keep the henna damp longer) and the sugar seems to help 'glue' the henna onto your skin. You don't want to get it too goopy, or it will smear. Just enough to keep it damp and 'glue' it on.

I once applied mehndi on the pregnant bellies of a couple of ladies who wanted to celebrate their pregnancies in a fun way. I warned them that it wouldn't stain too well, but it would show. Sure enough, it was fun, but not a dark stain.

Methinks I should bring some mehndi with me to Disneyland to earn some bucks to help offset the cost of the trip!! :)
