If you have had this surgery, how bad was the pain afterwards? Did the hemorrid grow back?

My husband has several birth defects and one affects his colon and caused hemmoroids. He had this surgery 3 years ago. Not going to lie, his recovery was not pretty. Not only was it painful but it was messy.

Stay on top of the pain and set the alarm for pain meds. He slept through a dose and was miserable. Stock up on flexible ice packs and be prepared not to sit for awhile. And honestly, buying depends is a really good idea. I ended up going to buy some at 3am.

After the recovery he was much happier and hasn't had a problem since.

Good luck.

There are different procedures so rather than asking about someone else who may have had something different, talk to the doctor and his staff. They can give you the information you need. I even knew someone who postponed such a procedure. Whether that was due to fear of pain or the expectation of a long recuperation requiring time off from work, I don't know. When he finally went to a surgeon, a non-surgical option was offered and he was soon feeling better.

Thank you but I'd like to have people experience with the surgery

I had it and won't lie, it was very painful. I really can't remember recovery time. I had it done in the 80's. I got them from being pregnant. Make sure to eat the fruit and plenty of fiber other wise oh my gosh. There were times I screamed from the pain. They have never come back, PTL. Use the ice packs as well. And sleep as much as you can it will help speed up the healing time. I don't know about if the procedures are any different from way back when. I had so many stitches. Do they plan on using laser to remove them? Any way I will pray for the surgery for him. Sorry I thought I read it was your husband, it may be you.

I knew a young guy (30-ish) who had the surgery. I asked about the the pain meds, he said he couldn't take them because they induce constipation thereby making the problem worse. :scared1: Shoot me now. Good luck to Mizzoufan or whomever needs the procedure.

DH was back at work in 6 weeks I think. (Our DS had a car accident a few days after DHs surgery so life kinda stood still for awhile). It was a couple of weeks before he was really moving well.

Eat nothing but fiber related foods and they should give you a stool softener. And drink a ton of water.

It's not fun but my DH is glad he had the surgery. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

No personal experience but when BIL had the surgery, we sent him an early birthday gift of prunes, coffee, and one of those donuts you sit on, lol. Sits baths may be your friend. (As directed.)

DH's doctor forbid him from sitting on the donut (it can spread the "cheeks" and cause the stitches to pull) I was bummed because I was trying to be proactive and buy one before his surgery and Walgreens wouldn't let me return it even though it was unopened

Yes, it was a joke gift, but I knew that years earlier, recommendations had come out against them because they cut off circulation to the bottom. Today there are high tech seat cushions that have layers of air and such, but I'm not sure where you can buy them outside of a hospital.

I had the PPH surgery. Look it up and as has been mentioned, there are different procedures depending on location and severity. Mine was not a big deal and back to long distance bicycling in a couple of weeks. Long distance is 75 to 100+ miles in a day.
