Hi All,

This will be our first time traveling to WDW with a wheelchair. My Father had a major stroke in January, and currently uses a Hemi (one handed) walker to get around for short distances. For longer distances, he depends on his W/C... which includes an elevated arm support (to help aleviate the painful swelling in his non-functional right hand). He also has a backpack on his chair, which we use for carrying necessary personal items.

Due to fatigue issues, we will likely use Dad's W/C most of the time at WDW. But it would be nice to be able to carry the Hemi along while visiting the parks too... for those times when he would prefer to get up and walk a bit, or for assistance during transfers. I have seen cane carriers that attach onto a W/C, but never anything that would work for carrying a walker. Any suggestions or ideas?

We definitely will be taking it very slow and easy this trip. Both of my parents have suffered strokes within the past 5 months (my Mother stroked just a couple weeks ago, but thankfully came through it ok and without any long term issues). When it rains, it pours. But we are determined to make the best of the situation, and have a great family vacation together at WDW in December. :grouphug:

You might contact the dealer who supplied his wheelchair. They would probably have something that can be attached.

Thanks. Tried that--all they have for the manual chair is a cane/crutch carrier. I searched the web too, without much more success.

I have looked at the walker carrier that is made for use on a power scooter. They seem pretty simple in design. Basically it is a pouch for support and some straps that wrap around the seat to hold things in place. I may just have to sew my own version, customized to carry the Hemi & attach properly/securely onto the back of a manual chair. Shouldn't require much more than some appropriate fabric & velcro... and a little creativity.
