MY ds is in 4th grade. Last month he had to read a fiction book where the main character was an animal and do a report. He read Feline Online. This month, he has to do a report on the animal that was in his book. The main character in Feline Online was a siamese cat.

Helping my DS research this particular breed of cat, makes us both want one. OMG!!! I did not realize how highly intelligent they are and that they just love being around people. We learned that they are very vocal, and will actually "talk" to you. If we ever get another cat, I think it will definitely be a siamese.

I have had cats all my life, and the best one by far was my Siamese, Queenie. She would come when I called her name, would jump in my arms when I signaled to her, and followed at my heel when I would walk in the neighborhood - without a leash. People would offer to buy her from me -- no going. She would also open the cupboard to get to her food, open her box, and grab her dry food one at a time so as to not make a mess. She would open the window to go outside & do her business. If she couldn't go outside and was stuck in the house, she would go over the bathtub drain.

She was the smartest cat I ever knew. Man, I miss her.

Love my Siamese. He's beautiful! He comes when you call, is very affectionate, talks to you and will even use the toilet if the litter box is dirty.
But don't most people just love their pets!

That's what we learned! That a siameses can teach itself how to open doors, cabinets and even latches. Her following you reminded me of the 1st cat we ever owned. Not a siamese, but an ornage tabby. He would follow us when we went for walks. It was really funny, he was like a dog, at our heels. We used to have to bring him home and put him in the house, because we lived on a cul-de-sac and when he went outside, he stayed close to our yard, or went in the woods. We would walk on a busy street. Neighbors would yell out and ask us if that was our cat, because they never saw a cat on a family walk before. LOL

That is amazing! Also, the other pp. mentioning the bathroom drain. I definitely want a siamese now, because the reason my cats are outdoor cats, is because I hate, hate, hate litter boxes!

My cats are all intelligent, but my Bengal is the most intelligent. If you want an intelligent, affectionate, vocal cat, that is the kind to get, IMO. I have a siamese as well, and she is not as sweet or intelligent as my Pharaoh. He learned how to climb the ladder up to my son's loft bed in about 5 minutes and climbs up and down whenever he wants. He also walks on a leash. If I don't click a door shut, he will manage to get it open, and if I click it, he jumps up and tries to turn the door knob, LOL.

As for sweetness, he is a 20 lb lapcat and will lie down and just roll over to show his belly. He sleeps with my son every night, and when I peek in, he is sprawled right beside my son's head.

We have 4 cats and 2 of them are siamese - love all 4 of them but the male siamese (our only male) has a special place in my heart since he is such a love bug!!

Yes, vocal is fun, but not when they wake you up every morning!

All my cats (at least for the last 21 years) have been full or part Siamese. I lost the last two (due to age) late last year and this year I got a bonded pair, both about 9 years old, from http://www.siameserescue.org/ which is a wonderful group. They deal only with Siamese and of all ages.

OMG! You could have taken that pic of my two siblings, Blythe and Antonio! They are 1/2 Siamese and 1/2 tabby, but Blythe looks full Siamese and Antonio looks full tabby. Looks like your tabby looking one is twice as big as the siamese, which is exactly how it is at my house. They are 1 1/2 years old and Blythe weighs only 8 lbs while Antonio is a big fat fourteen pounder.:lmao:

Even better than a Siamese, in my biased opinion, is a Tonkinese! They look very much like Siamese and have many of the qualities of a Siamese, but they are sweeter! They are very affectionate and love their owners. Check them out:

We have a Tonk. He is amazing. All of the positives you have said about the siamese and very lovable - beautiful too. He even loves my 10 yo DS who carries him around like his baby.

Because they are so smart - they can be devious. He can open all of our interior doors. I come home from work and we have a conversation about each of our days. He is just a very social cat. Wherever people are - he wants to be.

All in all a great cat and I would get another in a heartbeat.

Heck yeah! My first cat was a Siamese. I swear he was part human. If I had to have another indoor cat, it'd be a Siamese like my Charlie was. Smart as a whip, playful, lovable, loyal. He would talk to me, wait for me every afternoon on the windoesill to see me coming home from the busstop (and God help yo if I was late...oh how he carried on). Greta cat.

We have a half-Siamese/half-black cat -- he looks like a panther and he is one smart boy.

He's actually my DD's but since we now have a combined household he is one of our 4 cats. She named him Neo after the Matrix character. He opens every door in the house (including the pocket door to the guest room area!)

Her other cat is a beautiful, fluffy Maine Coon/tabby mix -- and smart ... um, not so much ... :lmao:

Siamese are wonderful cats!! I've been lucky enough to have been owned by 5meezers since I became an adult, and have found that they tend to be very smart, vocal, and loyal to their owners. My three females tended to be one person cats (totally devoted to me but didn't care for dh or kids) and my two males have been very sweet and loving to anyone who comes in our door. It amazes me how many people have come into my house and said that they always had the misconception that Siamese are mean cats until they met mine.

Siamese owners often say that Siamese cats are like dogs that are in a cats body. Mine have played hide and seek with the kids, fetched toys, opened doors and wait at the back door (meowing) when they hear us come home.

(BTW, the Siamese Cat Rescue is a wonderful organization. I have volunteered for them in the past and helped them with transport.)

Siamese are great, but having known several, I've never met a more "talkative" cat than my current one. She's an American Shorthair (read: mutt) that we rescued for free and you can have whole conversations with her.
