Helping a Friend Budget

This is why I stopped long ago trying to help other people plan vacations/budgets. I just point them to websites instead, they can gather their own info.

Agreed! People ask me how I go to Disney (or any other expensive vacation) for so little OOP, but once I give them the details (stalking the discounts, doing CC churning, rewards websites, discounted Target GCs to purchase Disney GCs online at a discount), they lose interest. They think it's too much work and end up taking their usual week at the Jersey Shore instead. Now, I just send them links to the usual websites that I follow and then let them do the grunt work.

lol - the glazed eyes look comes next, I know it well.

I agree. They could stay at Cabana Bay for $124 per night. I just looked it up. While that is a bit more than the hotel chosen, they won't have to pay for parking or gas for 2 days of their trip. I hear that this hotel is really nice.

I also think the food cost needs to be increased a bit. However, Universal food costs are not nearly as high as Disney. During our last trip, my family (3 adults and1 child) ate at the Red Oven Pizza Bakery for lunch for $35.00 (much cheaper than Disney). It also depends on what they want to eat. Most QS items for lunch are going to be in the $10 range. If you add on a drink and tax, you are going to be over budget.

This is not true. All Universal Hotels charge a parking fee because they are not technically owned by Universal.

I think they meant that they would save the cash of they walked to the park. It is a very small savings. It costs $17 to park at the park and $12 a day to park at Cabana Bay.

I don't mind helping her, even if they don't go. She is one of those people that gives of her time selflessly and works with teens at our church. I would gladly send her to Disney I could afford it!
