INFORMATION ON COST OF GAS ON RENTAL CARS BEING TURNED IN HERE

OK I need to really bring each and all up to speed if you are returning a car back in here at Cape Canaveral.
I did some checking today and if you do NOT fill your gas tank before turning it in, you will be charged $6.99 a gal so save yourself a little bit of monies by stopping at one of the gas stations before you turn it back in.
Just food for thought or should I say just gas for thought ;-)

Closest Hotels to Port Canaveral

All below 3 Cape Canaveral hotels are about 2 miles from the port and offer rooms with a view of the port, where you will be able to see the cruise ships in the morning. Be sure and sign up for the port shuttles. None of these 3 hotels are on the beach nor is it within walking distance of the beach (5 min cab ride). If you want the beach close, look for a hotel in Cocoa Beach beachfront hotels are posted further down.

RADISSON HOTEL

Beginning July 9 2007 Radisson will officially offer free transportation for guests on weekends and other selected times the Area will be the Port, Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach and Kennedy Space Center (KSC by reservation only)
Free cruise parking with an overnight stay
Breakfast buffet for $9.95, some higher rates include breakfast
Radisson webcam (points to the port):

ROOM INFORMATION PER REQUEST
None of the rooms will give you an ocean view since they are several blocks from the ocean. The standard rooms are only 2 stories. The suite buildings are 3 stories. For standard rooms and either the 200 or 400 building for suites. The 200 building is closer to the pool although the pool area may get quite noisy so if you want a quiet area request courtyard views. The most favorite rooms are in the 800 building 2nd floor facing the pool. Be aware that most of the pool side rooms are king rooms. There are just a few rooms with 2 beds facing the pool.
Due to the construction of high rise condos, there are very few rooms that will give you small views of the ships unfortunately none have a wide open view of the port any more.

UPDATE MESSAGE FROM JOE P. GENERAL MANAGER

Shirley
I want to update you on what the Radisson Resort at the Port is doing effective May 1 2011. Because of new charges (from the Canaveral Port Authority) for commercial passenger vehicles entering the cruise terminals and continued raising operating costs, Radisson will no longer be offering free shuttle and parking to all guests. Free shuttle and parking will still be available as part of our Park and Cruise packages. For guests that choose another rate, there will an option (at a charge) to add parking and shuttle once they arrive at the Resort. Any reservations that have been made prior to May 1, 2011 will be given free parking and shuttle to the Port per our current marketing message regardless of arrival date.
Also

Beginning Monday April 18, 2011 the Radisson will be selling non hotel guest parking and shuttle to the Port. The cost of this will be $6.99 Daily. We believe this will be a great alternative to the Ports charge of $15 per day, for the folks that live locally and are cruising.

This is where they have a 5600 gal aquarium in the restaurant area and a neat place to eat and just sit there and watch these fish. Nemo and Dory are there also along with a huge eel that likes to be petted like a dog. Will allow the feeders to scratch him until they have to finally quit as he lays there while asking for more.

Wakulla Suites has been a family owned hotel for 40 years. Our atmosphere is and has always been family friendly. We are well located in Cocoa Beach only blocks from the famous Ron Jon's Surf Shop (largest surf shop in the world) and Cocoa Beach Surf Company. With plenty of shopping, restaurants and grocery stores all within walking distance. Our hotel spans from A1A (the main road in Cocoa Beach) to the Atlantic Ocean with direct beach access. Our hotel largest section overlooks our tropical gardens, something we are known for, we have over 100 different plants and trees from over 25 different countries.

Wakulla Suites is an all suites hotel, with units that are over 800 square feet. Each suite has a fully equipped kitchen with dinner and cookware, a breakfast nook and full sized living room. There is one bathroom and two separate bedrooms, the first bedroom has a king sized bed and the secondary bedroom has both a double and single (with walk in closets). Maximum to a suites is 5 people (we do have one unit that is a three bedroom and can sleep 6 for larger families). We also have 2 suites that are wheelchair accessible. I have listed the suites types (location) in order of rate starting with our Standard suites "Best Value" and ending with our Beach side suites "ocean front building".

Standard Suites - these suites are located at the West end of our hotel and are street side facing A1A

Courtyard Suites - these suites face inward overlooking our beautiful tropical gardens (garden view) these suites are more centrally located and are just a short walk to either the pool or the beach. The courtyard suites are also where you'll find the majority of gas grills for our guests to enjoy.

Poolside Suites - these suites also face inward but overlooking our large swimming pool (pool view)

Beach side Suites - these suites are located in our ocean front building, but note that we call them non-ocean view since the windows face North & South. These suites are just steps away from the Atlantic Ocean and are therefore at the East end of our hotel.

Parking is free at our hotel, but it limited, so each suite is issued one parking pass, additional vehicles need to park in visitors spaces which are limited and are on a first come basis. Due to the limited parking we can not offer year round park and cruise for our guests, so there are black out times such as March- Mid April, June-Mid August and holidays. We do offer free parking for park & cruise guests whenever possible, for availability simply call our front desk. Our hotel does not have it's own transportation but we can recommend several local companies that are licensed/insured and competitive in rates for both Airport to Hotel as well as Hotel to Cruise Terminal.

Hotel amenities: Our tropical styled hotel offers many great amenities such as our large heated pool and children's wading pool, direct beach access (our property spans all the way to the Alt antic Ocean). We have gas BBQ grills throughout the courtyard, game room, shuffle board courts and beach volley ball. There is a business center in our lobby and free wireless throughout the entire property. We have a beach rental company available for beach chairs, umbrella, surf boards and more. We have cribs (pack & plays) and highchairs available per request. There are also two areas of coin operated guest laundry facilities. We have courtyard areas as well as our ocean deck that can be rented for weddings, reunions and other events. And we do have boardroom that can also be rented for small meetings and functions, it's seats up 24-35 people depending on the set up type.

We offer discounts for 3A, AARP, Military and Police/Fire/Emergency. We also offer group rates based on availability.

My name is Ruby Daniel and I'm the Hotel Manager, I'm available for any questions you may have and for site inspections.

Their website is being refreshed and updated, but this is the one that is being used at this time.
The best part is that you have an awesome restaurant right on the property called Gregory's (look below under restaurants)

Where can I buy gas for my rental car/food /snacks/alcohol /toiletries I forgot to pack?
About a mile past the entrance to the port (right next door to Residence Inn and Country Inns and Suites) is a big Racetrak mini mart/gas station for beer and probably some wine plus other supplies as water, sodas, snacks etc. Most stores that sell only beer and wine and are allowed to sell between 7 am to 2 am except most places on Sunday dont start until 12PM. Racetrak has a very friendly staff members and have been known to help many number of lost guests find themselves on the right road.
They also now have beach supplies such as sunglasses, sun lotion etc and working toward getting more supplies on hand.

Can I walk to the port from my hotel?

Its about 2 miles from the closest hotel (Raddison or Country Inns and Suites), along a highway with no sidewalk. Not recommended! NO NO NO PLEASE NO!!!!!!!!!

Jetty Park -
397 Jetty Park Drive, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920
Jetty Park is at the beginning or ending of the channel where all the ships go out. There is a $5 per car charge to get in, but well worth it. It has nice bathrooms, showers, place to eat, fish, walk and a super nice beach. It does have shade and camp grounds also. Directions: Take the Beachline (520) from the airport due East. After you pass the cruise ship port get into the left lane and slow when it says to 45mph (police fav. hiding place) the road turns into a city street with a RateTrac store on your right. Look to the left at the big white bldg with the blue roof and turn left between there and McDonalds. Go to the traffic light (2 blocks) and turn left. Go to the traffic light (3 Blocks) and turn right.

Thank you for going back and adding some extra lines in between some of the text. I was just coming to suggest that, hoping I wasn't being too picky. I had already printed this out and will go back and print out the new and improved version. :goodvibes

Thanks for the comeback - I am NOT a computer savey :sad1: so I have been going in adding, changing, taking away etc so thanks again for the comment. I still have a great deal more to add, but like anything else, it will take time.

Well, in that case I will wait a while before I print it out again, and I have plenty of time since my cruise is 13 months away at this point. This is great information for a new cruiser, like me, and there is probably information here that I didn't even know that I needed to know. :confused3

Thank you so very much for the time you have put into this.

Thanks so much! I was going to fork out $180 for a one way towncar from DisneyWorld to the port but after seeing taxi fares are $95-120 I will save myself some money.....:dance3:
