Helpful Information For You Updated 03/30/2012

In my sincere thoughts yes they are, but I feel they didn't mention other great ones like the Inn of Cocoa Beach, Best Western (which has just gone a new renovation) Motel 6 which just had some renovations made - every one of the hotels have had some problems, complaints etc, but all in all I sincerely believe each of them really really try to give it their best - My biggest suprise is that the Radisson didn't make "the list" it so it leaves some doubts in my mind for I know that the Radisson is up there with the best - yet they have its 2 ''sisters'' listed. Its just food for thought

Thanks for your insights, Shirley. :thumbsup2 I, too, was surprised that the Radisson didn't make the list; and I'll be honest, I wasn't totally enamored with Four Points - although the location was awesome! :)

UPDATE ON THE RADISSON 03/11/08

I thought it had gone into full effect, but this is a copy of the letter I just received from the GM.

Hi Shirley

We are in the process of converting all of our guest rooms to non-smoking rooms

You can no longer make a reservation at the Radisson Resort at the Port for a smoking room (this is not a policy of Radisson Hotels International – just a choice we have made locally – other Radisson Hotels may or may not have smoking rooms)

However during this transition period we do have some rooms and a suite set aside to accommodate the people that have reserved a smoking room or suite – it appears that we have reservations for smoking rooms until the end of May – (we have about 30 reservations outstanding for smoking rooms)

Once those people have come in and completed their stay we will no longer allow smoking in our guest rooms – as with most hotels there is a rather stiff extra charge if a guest smokes in a non-smoking room.

Our Four Points by Sheraton Cocoa Beach is a non-smoking hotel

Currently we are still have smoking rooms at our Quality Suites Cocoa Beach
Hope this helps Shirley

Can I recommend a great Italian restaurant in Cocoa Beach? It's the Italian Courtyard on 350 W Cocoa Beach Cswy. We eat there every time we stay in Cocoa Beach. The food is excellent with big portions, and the garlic knots are AMAZING! The atmosphere is very nice and more intimate then most places, and the service is excellent. I wish we had a place like this closer to home!

Sure you can, don't know how I missed this, sounds like my family's type of restaurant. I will definitely eat there the next time.

Thanks.

thanks for reminding me for they are a great Italian Rest and Norm and I go there once in a while.

Can't remember how I read/heard, but is there a convenience store next door to the Country Inn & Suites? Was thinking of walking over and getting some alcohol.... Am I right...or being blonde again?? :confused3

Hello there,
There is a convenience store called Ractrac which is right next door to the Residence Inn. They do carry wine and beer, but not a large variety, you would have to go about 1 1/2 miles South to the ABC Liquor Store to get more of a variety.
So nope you are not being a blonde, brunette etc again in your thinking.

UPDATE AGAIN

I had Pacmail as the place to ship stuff home, but I was kinda of disappointed in the attitude of the owner althought I hadn't said anything to anyone about my visit with the owner - I had gone in and introduced myself and told her I wanted to put her information on this link so that cruisers that needed her service, had somewhere to go to have stuff shipped home. I walked away and she didn't even say thanks or even showed any emotion toward me. I explained at that time, I did not expect anything and I would pay the same as any of her customer since I didn't accept any "favors" and if there were any, I preferred it would be passed to those that used her services. I have done all this research in order to give the cruisers the best deals, best choices so I made up my mind that I would look for another place that I feel would be more professional, accomodating and most of all more friendly so after much search, here is the decision I made and NO THERE IS NOTHING IN IT FOR ME OR THE SHOP ;-).

Shirley

PS - now I am NOT telling you not to use Pacmail, just giving another choice OK?

WHERE CAN I GO TO GET STUFF SHIPPED HOME?

SHIPPING DEPOT located at 1850 North Courtenay Pkway, Suite 103,
Merritt Island, Florida (turn South on North Courtenay Pkway off Hwy 528
they are right next door to Publix)

Phone 321-453-2558
Fax 321-453-0161
email address shippingdepot103@aol.com
(you can write them email to contact them or call them)

If you DO NOT want to concern yourself with the carrying of ''stuff'' home that you have purchase or too much to take on the plane, you can take it over to their place of business or they will be more than happy to pick it up from Cocoa Beach, Cape Canaveral and they will ship anywhere and everywhere. They are UPS and FEDEX office.

Owners are Raul and Dwane ---super nice and friendly folks to work with and very accomodating to your shipping needs.
Must mention this board for discount

No not really for I would love for someone to have this type of information if I was visiting their State or country. I respect a company that shows friendiness, appreciation etc and I just could not get it from the other company and I am a local so I could only imagine how someone else would be treated. I want the folks that visit here to leave with a good and positive thought.
I do appreciate your thoughs so please accept my thanks

PS this company that I recommended were not aware of anything until I wrote them a note and told them I had put them on this board so nothing was a "put on"

ANOTHER UPDATE 03/13/2008

OK I need to really bring each and all up to speed if you are returning a car back in here at Cape Canaveral.
I did some checking today and if you do NOT fill your gas tank before turning it in, you will be charged $6.999 a gal so save yourself a little bit of monies by stopping at one of the gas stations before you turn it back in.
Just food for though

Shirley - has your port contact let you know that they are no longer accepting boxes? A DIS'er on our meets thread called and this is what she was told. Also, DCL is limiting it to two plus one carry on per person. I would wonder if we can still check a case of water, a box, etc.

Shirley, Can you give us any update regarding shipping to port. This is what was found out to day

Coast Guard Regulations are stating 2 bags and one carry on per person! No shipping anything to port before the cruise. Do not ship to IDS they will refuse the package and ship it back to you.

They are having to enforce these rules very strictly now.
2 suitcases
1 carry on
and that is all you can bring.........

I believe that a call was made and this is what was said regarding shipping.
Hoping you can verify.

OK - here is the scoop and first I want to say I am truly very sorry to give everyone this news.
I made numberous of phone calls and what has been posted is true. Reasons being that so many boxes, cartons etc were coming in and there was no way to check all items shipped so the coast Guard said NO MORE OF ANYTHINg so anything shipped to IDS will be refused and returned back to you.

If you put water, sodas, liquor etc in carry ons or check ins and if it is found, it will be confiscated - now 2 suitcases and 1 carry on can be carried by each person which includes kids. You can no longer ship diapers, baby food etc. It has to be a carry on or check in.
Wish I would have had better news, but security has tighten down and getting harder, but it is in your best interest and safety that these steps were taken. To tell you how strong they have gotten, Norm and I now have to be double badged - one by the port and the second one by the US Government even though all our of stuff is checked, sniffed, looked at but so far the restrictions has not fell to us since they can control small deliveries such as our shop.
