HI- We just got back from Disney and are REALLY thinking about the vacation club. Here are my questions?

They are selling SSR for $98 per point with this "incentive" that brings it down to about $87 per point.

The hard sell is that we have to sign by Tues. My DH is one that has to do tons of research and won't be forced in to signing in a matter of hours. He claims that they are "always" incentives and we can buy anytime.

We are new to this and ANY feedback on anything will help. We are thinking about 200 points. We are a family of 5 and are kids are 5,8 and 10. We probably will not vacation every year so we can bank points.

Also, DH is worried the kids will "outgrow" Disney.

Thanks- Tracey

Hello, Unless they just changed the incentive, it should be $83.30 per point with the referral incentive. I just signed papers last week after trying to decide for two years. One thing you could do since you just got back and maybe not go back next year is, buy the 200 points, they should give you the 200 points for 2005. So you could have 400 points to rent out at $10 per point, so thats $4000 you can pay into this. Just a thought. I bought 150 points. And will probably rent out most of them the first year. Anyway if you do like I did and think about it for two years, in two years you will be kicking yourself for not doing it.

It sounds like you're not taking advantage of the referral offer going on -if you provide a referral name of a current owner, the points would be $83.30ea. We also did the tour 2 weeks ago while there and it looks like we will buy tomorrow. I would like to mention that I was a little surprised by the "pressure" put on by the guide -just in the amount of time given to consider, not actual sales-pitch pressure. I had heard that they usually give you a couple months to consider the offer so we were taken a little off guard(we had over a week, but only because our guide was going to be away). Nonetheless, I still feel it's a very good offer(probably won't see much better) and should pay off in the long run.

The price is closer to $83 per point with the current friends and family incentive.

I don't think you'll ever see a price this low again...unless you can pay cash and buy a resale. The last time they had any prices this low was over two years ago when they were pre-selling points at SSR. Those who paid $79 per point had to provide a deposit up-front and were faced with not being able to use their points (at ANY DVC resort) for 8-10 months when the resort finally opened.

The last time they had points readily-available at such a price was 2002.

Obviously the first thing you need to decide is whether DVC is right for your family. If so, tell your husband to put away his pride and take the offer. This isn't like a car dealership where they have a new "deal" every week and you can haggle over the price.

You may also want to ask you salesperson what will happen to your ability to obtain discounts in the future if you miss the 3-day purchase window. I've often heard that if you do not buy within the imposed time limit, you can NEVER obtain a current or future promotional rate from DVC.

I think that the so-called 3 day rule is up to your guide to put the pressure on. When I toured July 2003, there was no talk of BUY NOW. Two months later I called and he offered the same deal. I had the paperwork sent but then got cold feet again. So two years later I call and talk with my guide and he said I could get the new incentive. Bought 150 pts and he never asked for a referral. He is very nice and not pushy at all . He told us just to buy when we are ready. Now just waiting for the finance to go through. :cool1:
