Okay ive been trying to eat sensibly for a long time, and it just is not working. I eat probably about 7-8 times a day, i just cant stop eating! THen, during the night, I get horrible stomach aches. then when i wake up, its time to eat again. Im always hungry and Im always wondering when something will get over so i can eat.

is this normal?

as far as my weight, im staying within a 5 pound range, but i also cant seem to lose any weight.
I go to the gym about 2 times a week, and stretch and do crunches daily...

any advice/help would be greatly appreciated:)

It's actually GOOD to eat five SMALL meals a day, but they need to be HEALTHY things. Are you making good food choices?

Also two days is not enough for exercise, and the stretches and crunches do not count because you most likely are not elevating your heart rate enough. Gym time should be at a minimum 3 times a week for one hour. Five days is best (yeah, I can never do it myself). You also need to mix up cardio and weight (strength) training.

Good luck, I know how frustrating it can be.

Hi there young miss!
How often you eat may not be the issue (as stated above, grazing is good!), but the quality of what you are eating is important, especially as your body is still maturing. If you eat a LOT of starch, or sugar, or processed foods, cut back and increase the fresh foods you eat. Do you eat lunch provided by your school? What kind of food do they offer? What about dinner? If your parents are as busy and harried as many of us are, does dinner come from a box, a pizza parlor or fast food restaurant? Here's one of the best things you can do for yourself (and something I'm only just now doing) LEARN TO COOK! :D

As far as always feeling hungry, three things to consider: One, you are still growing! Two, you may really just be THIRSTY! And, three, the hardest, you may just be 'wanting' something and sometimes that feeling isn't about food at all. Do you keep a journal or diary? Try writing in it before you eat and at the end of the day also.

Make sure you are getting plenty of water and taking a multiple vitamin and keep hitting the gym.....and do isometrics while you DIS!

The more information you share here, the more help you can get.
Each step you take, no matter how small, will eventually get you where you want to go! There are lots of mom's here with teenagers and I'm sure they'll be able to offer help and ideas to you....and everyone will offer you encouragement.!

Hi Depply!! :wave2:

What are you eating? If it's mostly starchy stuff with lots of carbohydrates it can make you MORE hungry!

I used to think I was eating so healthy. I'd have a bagel for breakfast, a baked potato for lunch and spaghetti for dinner - all those carbs!! I was always STARVING!

Once I started eating more protein, I felt better. Are you getting your protein?

Hang in there! You'll find what works for your body. It just takes some time and some experimenting. :sunny:

*what is isometrics?*

I eat a lot of fruit and veggies, but then i get into the cookies and cake and crap.....:(

DoeWDW: i didnt know carbs made you more hungry?! guess ill have to watch my carb intake! thanks!

I cant go to the gym more than 2 a week unless theres no school, unfortunately:(

~if i do eat at school, ill eat a gross chicken burger and a cookie and a water or cappucino, then when i get home i feel like i havent eaten in days....maybe i should try a salad? or a sandwich?

thanks for everyone's help, i really appreciate it!::yes::

Sorry, I didn't realize your age. :D

Ok if you can only get to the gym two days a week, then you need to do something at home to elevate your heart rate, either get an fitness DVD or make up your own home routine. Fitness magazines are a great place to get ideas and really for most things you would just need a balance ball and some dumbells.

Isometrics (without going into a lot of detail, 'cause I can't) is just basically clenching or tightening a set of muscles, holding it, and then releasing...i.e., suck in your tummy, hold it as long as you can and then release (don't forge to breathe!). Or pitting one set of muscles against the other......clasp your hands in front of your chest, elbows out and attempt to pull you hands apart....that kind of thing.

Also, pop in a CD and dance! Jump around your room like a wild woman....I KNOW you've got it in you!

If you really need a sweet treat, try saving it for after dinner dessert (as opposed to having it at lunch or in the afternoon), I've found that having sugar mid day really makes me feel bad, but a bit at night doesn't cause any cravings.....probably because I'm asleep when they hit!....must be why I always have sweet dreams;)

When you have a little time, take a look at some of the WISH journals and you'll see what others are trying and DOING to accomplish their health goals.

MIss Jasmine- i was thinking about buying some yoga tapes maybe....???

ibouncetoo-i like the sucking in your tummy thing, im doing it as i type! I like dancing....:teeth:

today for luncch (well actually it was more like breakfast since it was at 8:00) i had a fruit cup and a cappucino....they didnt really have alot of choice....they had bagels but when i eat them they make me more hungry.....poptarts....cereal ....?

~thanks again~

The cappucino is loaded with sugar and caffieine, try cutting that out and see how you do.I cannot drink it anymore it is just to sweet and loaded with caffeine.

Misty, would it be better to drink juice in the morning?

~thanks

I think juice would be better than the Cappucino.I drink Decaf coffe of the morning and then switch to water the rest of the day.If I have to have a soda i drink diet rite.If i want something diffrent i drink Crystal light but i try not to drink these things except maybe twice a week.
Good luck.

Does your school have anything with eggs in the morning? Sometimes the protein will hold you over better than carbs. Or grab some string cheese or yogurt from home on the way out the door in the morning? School food can be hard to navigate trying to eat healthy, but if there is a salad bar for lunch you could opt for some healthy veggies and put some cheese or egg or meat in there for your protein, but watch the dressing - that can add a lot of extra fat too. I remember hitting the salad line a lot in HS instead of the fries/malt thing which is oh so tempting.

I agree to suggest cutting back on the cappucinos in the morning - juice would be healthier. Let yourself have a cappuchino, say once a week as a treat?

I'm not anti-carb at all, I try to be pretty balanced, but I have personally found that if I am starving, that protein options seem to hold better, longer than carb options do - carbs are good for bulk though - like popcorn for a snack etc.

Good for you for trying to start eating healthy now when you are younger - it will help you out as you are getting older to keep those good habits in check!!!

misty im a huge tea drinker...suppose that doesnt help either does it....

Jen- I usually dont like eating eggs but some of the salads i notice do have eggs and cheese and meat...i just feel like i never will ahve time to eat them but this week i will definately try...and ive been drinking water and flavored water....o yea and the occasionaly ice tea/tea 4 times a day....
ive found carbs to make me more hungry also, so i try to just eat a piece of turkey or roastbeef or something at home before bed and after school..

~thanks~
