Staying at BLT in March. Would you go to Hoop dee Doo or not. I heard its overpriced.

There is pretty much nothing at WDW that isn't overpriced.

I personally did not care for the food at Hoop de Doo (the fried chicken was okay, the so called strawberry shortcake was a square of white cake with a teaspoon of strawberry topping and a tiny dollop of non-dairy whipped cream). But the show was lots of fun.

So if you are going for the entertainment, it's a blast. If you are going for the dining, it's so so.

You don't go for the food or because it's a good price. You go for the experience. IMO, everyone should go at least once.

I agree with PP, it is an experience that everyone should do once. We went on one of our trips when we had 4 generations with us, so it was an experience that everyone enjoyed from ages 3 to 80! I'd go there again with a large group or one of mixed ages.

This is not the best food at WDW, but it also is not repulsive. If you go expecting signature-like gourmet food, you will be disappointed. If you go expecting a decent family style type meal, then you will be so distracted by the show you will forget that it's just good ole fried chicken and sides! If you really don't want fried chicken, you can order a vegetarian meal, if I remember right it is some sort of pasta dish.

I would go for the experience, not necessarily the food. It was the same for us with the Luau experience as well.

It's great to try something once to see what it's like! The show was fun! The food wasn't that great. And yes, way over priced!

You must go at least 1 time. As other posters have said, you're going for the entertainment, not the food.

But the entertainment is pretty darn good. :thumbsup2

The entertainment is great.
The food runs the gamut from so-so (salad and cornbread) to inedible (ribs).
The service is indifferent at best.

I'm a signature dining fan but my family loves and enjoys HDDR. The food is simple but I've never had it when it wasn't good. I've never had anything there I would describe as "inedible." I've never had indifferent service and the last time I was there, our server was not just good, but stellar. We've been 3 times since May 2008 and plan to go back again.

I'm not sure to get it. You want WDW to be expensive. Just imagine the type of people they would attract if things were not expensive. Yikes!!!!

Cheers!

Max

We saw HDDR for the 1st time on our last trip & we all loved it! The food was pretty good but the show was great! I think you should go for it!!!

Although I find the food to be so-so at HDDR, my husband thought the food was the best food he had all week, well right behind Artist Point. However, my husband's favorite food groups are; Beer, Meat, Bread. So please take his opinion with a grain of salt. :rotfl:

Just wanted to say that one of my favorite family memories was at the HDDR. It was around 83 and I was about 6 or 7. We were seated in the bottom section all the way to the back left. From the very beginning one of the show's female stars started "messing with" my father (big al). He is VERY tall. They picked him to be in the show. It was awesome. My little brother and I loved it!
To this day I can picture him vividly on that stage with the little feather on his head.
As soon as I'm sure my LOs will sit all the way through it -we are there!

I appreciate everyone's input. We will add it to our trip. Can anyone comment on the luau at the Poly. Thanks

I can! We went last year and it was a lot of fun. Food is similar to HDDR and the show is corny, but so is HDDR. The best part of SOA is the fire guy at the end. He was great. I think you would have a good time at either one.

Cheers!

Max

the luau is good,I agree with the previous poster, corny show but the fire dancer at the end made it all worth it, i enjoyed the food less than HDMR and if the weather is not good they will cancel the luau....

I liked both shows. HDDR food was OK but the show was great. My 3 year old loved it.

Luau was OK....we could not really enjoy it though since it was cold (40's) and windy. Being on the lagoon does not help.
