Need help. We want to add on around 100 points. We own 150 at SSR. We really like the AKV but to have a 100 points to book at the 11 month window seems kinda of silly as we'll only be able to book about 3 days and the rest will have to wait until the 7 month window.

Thing is, DH isn't really crazy about SSR, so here's the dilema, do I add on at SSR and hope AKV and others are open at 7 month, or do I add on at AKV and book the first part of our stay????

Also, if we were to purchase a resale SSR contract, do we have to have the same use year (August)? and will be it be a separate contract and what are the ramifications of that???????

SOOOOO Confused.

AKV is too knew to see how difficult it will be to book at 7 months. Too early to tell. Good luck with your add on decision!

If you buy, can you borrow from your next use year so you have 200 AKV points? We bought 100 AKV points with the intention of banking/borrowing so we can stay every other year.

Not really silly. What many people do is to bank and/or borrow so that you could book a 200 or 300 point trip every other year or so all with the 11 month home booking advantage.

If your DH isn't crazy about SSR, I certainly wouldn't advise buying more points there. On the other hand, if he's okay with it I'd probably add on at SSR rather than splitting the contracts with only 100 additional points. But that's just me...you can certainly make it work either way.

If you purchase resale, you don't have to have the same UY. It will be a separate contract. The ramifications are that you would have two contracts with different point replenishment times and different banking deadlines. We have two contracts (one from Disney and one resale) with different UY and it isn't really that hard to keep track of them. Caskbill, among others, has some good free tracking software at www.caskbill.com that you can download to help keep up with your contracts.

Thanks for the help. I hadn't thought about borrowing to get the 200 pts. Sound like a good idea. We'll have to deliberate soon as I want it done and added on soon.

I had two contracts (OKW, BWV both bought on the resale market) until recently. It really isn't terribly hard to manage two contracts, but there is an advantage to adding on to an existing contract through Disney. I like the ability to combine points from my BWV points and my AKV points to make a reservation. I could do that before with BWV and OKW, but I could only book whole days and then connect the reservation. Now I can use any combination of BWV and AKV points in the 7-month window.

Thanks robinb and granny. I think we'll do the AKV and combine points and borrow points to be able to book at 11 months and 7 months at AKV and others. I'll explain to DH as I think this makes sense. We were floored by the AKV model rooms and when we stay there, we'll just rent a car.

For 100 points I'd buy directly and take the incentives. AKV will likely be enough better value, including resale, to justify the minor price difference. Giving yourself more 11 month options for your desired destinations is always a good thing. If we were talking 25 points or so, I wouldn't fool with it, but for 100 points in this situation it seems to be a no brainer.

Also weekend days are usually still available at the 7 month mark and take more points. So borrow enough to get your weekday reservations at the 11 month mark and then add the weekends at the 7 month mark with your SSR points.

As others have said, if you bank/borrow and use current points you could conceivably have 300 points to use at the 11 month window. But you'd only be staying there every 3 years if you max out the usage of your points this way.

We added on at AKV for this reason. I wouldn't want to stay at one particular DVC resort every single time we went, but that's just my opinion. We like a change of scenery.

We weren't sure if we liked SSR at first, either. It seems really spread out for us and we were sure we would only stay there if we "had" to. We stayed there during our last trip (it wasn't our first choice) and really enjoyed the resort! We would stay there again in a hearbeat! It's really beautiful, we loved the restaurants and the pools. Didn't try the spa but would love to and we do love going to DTD so that's a plus for us, too.

So far we haven't had a problem booking at the 7 month window but we don't usually travel during the busiest DVC times. If I were to book a trip for say, Christmas, I'd book 11 months out at SSR or AKV where we own.

If you purchased a resale contract (for any resort) it would not have to be for the same UY. If you add-on through Disney, it would only be for the same UY.
