Help!!

Sorry C.Ann but you have worms! :lmao:

Ok, well you have a worm or a virus and need to run a virus scan. What happened was, when you opened the unfamiliar email, it loaded a program on your computer that hikjacked your email. I would not be surprised if more of those nasty emails went out without you knowing.

Try going to savemybutt(dot)com It is a really good free site that has lots of info about these kinds of attacks. Sorry it happened to you!

How do I run a virus scan? I haven't figured out how to do anything on this laptop yet.. It came with a virus program loaded on it - so now how do I "run" it?

People like me should not be allowed to have computers.. :sad2:

C.Ann,

You don't necessarily even have a virus, a "spoofer" could just be spoofing from your email.
Do run a virus check though! If your laptop is new, it likely came with a free trial of McAffee, or Symantec or something.

Good luck!

Usually your anti-virus software will be running in the toolbar portion, near your clock. If you can find the icon (run your mouse over each icon and it'll tell you what it is), right click on it and it should allow you to open your anti-virus software. From there, you can run a scan.

I ran the scan and it found nothing..

This is another great example of why you never, ever open emails from someone you are not familiar with. And if it's from someone you know and it seems strange I'd STILL not open it.

2 of my friends told me today that they were having problems with their Yahoo accounts. One said that they heard there was some sort of virus being spread by yahoo e-mail... :confused3

The e-mail is still out there in the ether of the Internet. I'm not absolutely positive but I don't think your posssibly cancelling your Yahoo account will affect the porn/spam/possible spoofs already sent.

I have Trend Micro's "PC-cillin" security software. It automatically runs scans on every single piece of e-mail that comes in. Even so, I NEVER open attachments even if they look likey they're from people I know, unless the e-mail says "this e-mail has attchment/s" or unless I talk to the supposed sender to verify the information. The PC-cillin updates and I can run a complete computer virus scan or a spyware scan plus make sure I have the latest Microsoft security updates.

Good luck.
agnes!

There is a virus going through Yahoo mail. It usually comes in an email titled "New Graphics Site" and shows an attachment. You're not sending it...you've probably opened it an email somewhere along the line that had it. It sends itself to everybody in your address book.

Here's more information that I received through my (Yahoo) Freecycle group:

Just wanted to take a second and let you know about the "New Graphics Site" virus. This has hit a huge number of Yahoo boards and sites, this includes many many Freecycle sites nationwide. Many of the sites that have been hit have gone on full moderation which means every post has to be approved by the moderator. It is a major pain to do this. Some of the sites hit have 3000+ members. Luckily, as of right now, Hanover Freecycle has not been hit.

The "New Graphics Site" virus is a worm that is ACTIVATED WHEN YOU OPEN THE EMAIL, there is no attachment, merely opening the email sets it working. The subject line on the email should read "New Graphics Site" or something to that effect. Do not open it. Opening it attaches it your address book and sends the worm to all the addresses in your address book that have a "@yahoo.com" or "@yahoogroups.com" ending. It is not supposed to delete files or anything. Symantec (Norton) Antivirus rates the worm as a Threat Level 2 which is next to the lowest threat they have. I think its more of an annoyance than anything else, but it seems to be a major annoyance!

If you do not have automatic update on your virus software, please update ASAP. If you do not have virus software, find some Symantec and McAfee are two good ones. If you have comcast.net, they provide McAfee free to subscribers. I have Symantec right now and have had no problems (yet!).

Here are two links with information on the "New Graphics Site" worm: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/js.yamanner@m.html
and http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,126048,00.asp

Hope this helps. If in doubt about an email, don't open it! Especially attachments!
