HELP! Would you keep your child home from school : UPDATE post 24

Like what was pointed out to me by some DISers (in jest) when I was debating how many days to pull my son next week when I bring him on a mom/son trip to WDW...he might not get into college because of the extra day off from school. :teeth:

Sometimes our kids need a little regrouping time at home when they're not feeling 100%, just like us big kids. Extra TLC goes a long way!

Update:

Well, I have decided to keep him home. I am still not 100% sure it is the 'right' thing to do but I don't think one day off will hurt him either.

He is still pretty swollen and it is turning black and blue. He says it hurts when he talks. So I gave him some Motrin and will give him the day off.
He did eat some breakfast but ate it slower then usual because he said it hurt to move his lip plus he was worried he would accidently bite it again.

I guess it will be a mommy and me day :teeth:

Yes! at that age I would definately!!! A special day at home with mom is just what he needs. :sunny:

The only situation I can think of where I would send my own, is if she had already missed too many days - outside of that I think it is just fine!!!!

Enjoy your day!!!!!!:wizard:

(edited to add: DD has extractions in a couple weeks - after hearing your story I will be sure to warn her to be extra careful...thank you!)

An ice pack wrapped in a towel might help ease a bit of the throb he's probably got now.

Hope the little guy feels better soon!

I think you made the right decision. If it is hurting and he is feeling self-conscious about it, he should stay home.

If it was my daughter, and it wasn't bothering her physically, I would have sent her, though. I have been pleasantly surprised at my DD's school that the kids don't really tease each other much about stuff like that. Hannah went to school yesterday for the first time with glasses, and I think most of the kids were jealous of her.

Hooray!! :bounce: :bounce: I've been following this thread and was rooting for your little guy to stay home!! :teeth:

He probably isn't feeling 100% himself today, and staying home with his mom is just the medicine he needs. Read some books together, watch tv, have a picnic lunch in the living room, and just have fun spending time together!

I'm glad you did. I'll never forget when I was a sophomore in HS, I had to take two days off b/c my wisdom teeth were taken out - my cheeks were so blown up it wasn't funny. Well, to my shock and dismay, my dear boyfriend at the time came to visit - :scared1: I was never so embarrassed - and his "endearing" nickname for me became chubby cheeks. so I feel your poor ds's pain.

DS had 3 baby teeth pulled in one visit (all on 1 side of his mouth) and 3 more pulled 2 weeks later on the other side of his mouth. BY FAR the worst part of the whole thing was living with the after affects of the Novacaine. He didn't mind the actual pulling of the teeth and really didn't have any pain, but loss of feeling in the mouth for a while was a big problem for him. Think that's one reason he tried to keep his teeth brushed 'cause he knows there's novacaine involved if he gets a cavity!

Good choice mom! I would have kept my child home too!.
Enjoy the mommy son time! :goodvibes
